Hi, I am just sending out a reminder of the fund raiser for Biblioteca Puedo Leer tomorrow Thursday, April 30, 5:00pm at Pan de Vida.
Sarah has very kindly planned this event and we really do need the funding, so please, please do come and support us.

I myself am planning to be there and this will be my first trip outside of the house in weeks - since I had the partial hip replacement in late March. There has been too much pain and I have been unable to walk, even slowly, without a cane or walker. So I am planning on going to the bingo event with my walker and my personal helper, Flor. I am so looking forward to seeing everyone there!!
Please pass the word on to others you know.

The library will be closed this Friday, May 1, in observance of Labor Day in Nicaragua.

UPDATES

Msg from Pauline to Annaelizabeth

Carol is doing very well - the doctor came and checked her on Thursday afternoon and said that the operation is a success. That evening she was able to get out of bed and using her walker move through to her recliner in the living room. She is still having injections every day for another ten days, and taking lots of medications.

The pain is easing and though she is tired the doctor has said she can walk gently around the house. She still has a care taker, Claudia, with her 24 hours.

It looks like Carol will only be about $3000 short of the full costs. Pauline.

UPDATES From Pauline

Carol has had the operation and is recuperating in her hospital bed. The surgeon believes it is successful, however because of the fragility of her bones it is vital that she stays in bed until Friday when he will assess her with movement. Tomorrow, Tuesday she will come back home in an ambulance and will be in bed with 24 hour care until Friday afternoon.

*UPDATE*

Pauline & Karen took Carol up to the hospital yesterday morning, Hospital Santa Gema in Masaya. The surgery is not due to take place until mid to late afternoon today - Carol is likely to come home either Tuesday evening, or Wednesday morning.

Pauline will have to take the money up to the surgeon today - he needs to be paid in cash and for the prothesis - Karen will stay until after the operation. At this stage the operation is scheduled for 3 or 3.30 pm and should take about 2 hours.

Will definitely keep you informed.

"UPDATE"

Carol's Hip Surgery will take place this coming Monday March 23. She will be admitted to the hospital the night before on Sunday March 22.

Thank you so much for your very kind donations, without your support we wouldn't have been able to do it.

Needless to say, Carol still very much in awe of Nicaragua, Nicaraguans and people all over the world who are kind and so thoughtful.
