NARICT Strengthens Technical Capacity in Biofuel Quality Testing
The National Research Institute for Chemical Technology (NARICT), Zaria, through its Analytical Services Unit (ASU), has strengthened capacity in biofuel quality assessment with a training workshop on Advanced Analytical Instrumentation, Standard Methods & Data Interpretation.
Held 14th–17th September 2026, the programme brought together 18 participants from NARICT research departments, plus two external participants from the Centre for Renewable Energy, Bayero University, Kano (BUK).
With 70% practical & 30% theoretical engagement, participants gained exposure to analytical techniques & lab procedures relevant to biofuel quality testing. Areas covered included Gas Chromatography (GC), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), oxidation stability, pour & cloud points, copper corrosion, flash point & kinematic viscosity, plus sample preparation, equipment operation, quality assurance & lab data interpretation.
The programme let participants enhance competence in using modern analytical instruments & generating reliable lab data for research, quality control & technical services.
During the workshop, the Director-General/CEO, accompanied by the Director of Research & Management team members, visited to inspect activities. He commended organizers, facilitators & participants for their commitment & expressed satisfaction with the programme's relevance to NARICT's mandate of advancing research, technology development & technical capacity.
The training underscores NARICT's commitment to continuous professional development, effective use of lab infrastructure & delivery of specialized analytical services supporting Nigeria's growing biofuel & renewable energy sector.
The workshop concluded, with participants gaining valuable practical knowledge & enhanced competence in biofuel quality testing & advanced analytical techniques.
