NCAT RECTOR/CE PARTICIPATES IN ICAO AVIATION CLIMATE WEEK 2026

The Rector/Chief Executive of the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria, Dr. Danjuma Adamu Ismaila, participated in the ICAO Aviation Climate Week 2026, themed “One Global Path: Advancing Net-Zero Aviation,” held at the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Headquarters in Montréal, Canada.

According to ICAO, the three-day event provided an opportunity for stakeholders to learn about the latest developments in aviation environmental sustainability, including the outcomes of the 42nd Session of the ICAO Assembly and the implementation of the ICAO Assistance, Capacity-Building and Training for the Long-Term Global Aspirational Goal (ACT-LTAG) programme.

The event also served as a platform for informed discussions on efforts towards achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. Participants reviewed progress on the ICAO Global Framework for Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF), Lower Carbon Aviation Fuels (LCAF), and other cleaner aviation energy initiatives adopted during the Third ICAO Conference on Aviation and Alternative Fuels (CAAF/3). Discussions further focused on the collective global aspirational goal of reducing CO₂ emissions from international aviation by 5 per cent by 2030.

As part of NCAT’s commitment to environmental sustainability, the Rector/Chief Executive recently established the Environmental and Climate Change Unit to coordinate the College’s efforts in assessing the environmental impact of its activities and identifying measures to reduce carbon emissions in support of the global net-zero emissions agenda by 2050.

The College is also participating in academic research on Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) and is developing capacity-building and training programmes to support the industry’s transition towards a more sustainable future.

Participation in the ICAO Aviation Climate Week provided the College with deeper insights into ICAO’s global climate agenda and the progress made towards achieving net-zero aviation emissions.

On the sidelines of the event, Dr. Danjuma A. Ismaila held discussions with Mr. Saro Agnerian, Technical Sales Specialist, Simulation Products (Civil) – Europe and Africa, CAE Inc., Montréal, Canada. The meeting focused on reviewing the proposal submitted by CAE in May 2026 for the reactivation of NCAT’s Boeing 737NG Full Flight Simulator and its restoration to full training-ready status.
