CP IYAMAH ASSURES ADEQUATE SECURITY, FELICITATES MUSLIMS, AND CHILDREN ON EID-EL-KABIR AND CHILDREN’S DAY

The Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State Command, CP Iyamah Daniel Edebor, psc, IICFIP, foosi, felicitates with Muslim faithful and children across Bayelsa State on the occasion of the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir and Children’s Day celebrations. He described the twin celebrations as significant and urged residents to celebrate in the true spirit of peace, sacrifice, unity, and responsible conduct.

In line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, the Command has intensified statewide security operations and deployed personnel and operational assets across nooks and crannies to ensure hitch-free celebrations. The deployment includes Police Mobile Force, Intelligence Units, Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Marine Police, Divisions, Special Drone Unit, and Traffic Teams to strategically positioned across the State.

The Commissioner of Police has directed all units to intensify visibility policing, intelligence gathering, patrols, and proactive crime prevention measures. Security personnel have also been strategically stationed at Eid prayer grounds, recreational centers, markets, motor parks, waterways, and other major public places to ensure adequate security coverage throughout the festive period.

CP Iyamah reassures residents of the Command commitment to sustaining peace and guaranteeing social harmony while urging citizens to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and security-conscious by reporting suspicious persons and activities promptly. He further warned criminal elements to steer clear of unlawful acts as the command remains fully prepared to deal decisively with all forms of criminality. The Command wishes Muslim faithful a peaceful Eid-el-Kabir celebration and children a joyful Children’s Day celebration.

CP IYAMAH RECEIVES SECURITY EQUIPMENT DONATED BY THE NIGERIAN CONTENT DEVELOPMENT AND MONITORING BOARD (NCDMB)

The Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State Command CP Iyamah Daniel Edebor, psc, IICFIP, foosi, today, 21st May 2026 received security and tactical equipment donated by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) during a presentation ceremony at the Command Headquarters, Yenagoa.

The equipment donated includes one (1) Thermal Tactical Drone, one hundred (100) pieces of Level IV NIJ Ballistic Vests, one hundred (100) Motorola UHF Radios, and one hundred (100) pieces of Level IV NIJ Ballistic Helmets.

The Executive Secretary, represented by Engr. Austin Uzoka, STA, stated that the gesture underscores the Board commitment to supporting security agencies in the protection of lives, property, and critical national assets, particularly within the Niger Delta region, as well as promoting community policing. Furthermore, Mr. Desmond Awumade, FNIIS, Security Manager, emphasized the importance of collaboration between institutions in promoting peace, stability, and sustainable development. Also present was Dr. Obinna Ezeobi, General Manager, Corporate Services, among others.

In his response, the Commissioner of Police expressed appreciation to the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board for the generous donation and assured that the equipment would be judiciously deployed to enhance operational effectiveness and strengthen ongoing efforts in tackling violent crimes and other security challenges in the State. He further noted that the partnership between both institutions reflects a shared commitment towards ensuring lasting peace and security in Bayelsa State and Nigeria at large.

GOVERNOR OF BAYELSA STATE LAUNCHES VIOLENT CRIME RESPONSE UNIT (VCRU), CP IYAMAH INAUGURATES CIVILIAN OVERSIGHT BOARD

The Bayelsa State Police Command today, 20th May, 2026, officially launched the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) and inaugurated the Civilian Oversight Board at the Command Headquarters, Yenagoa, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security, enhance professionalism, and improve public confidence in policing across the State.

The Executive Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Nimibofa Ayawei, launched the new Unit in Bayelsa State and commended the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc (+), NPM, for the establishment of the Violent Crime Response Unit across State Commands, describing the initiative as a strategic step towards strengthening internal security, combating violent crimes, and promoting accountability in policing. He further assured the command of the Government’s continuous support in the fight against violent crimes across the state.

Present at the ceremony was the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 16 Headquarters, AIG Abubakar Zubairu, PSC (+), who charged the officers to maintain the highest level of professionalism and to abide by the provisions of Force Order 237 in the discharge of their duties, alongside other distinguished guests and stakeholders.

In his speech, the Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State Command, CP Iyamah Daniel Edebor, psc, IICFIP, foosi, stated that the VCRU was established in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police aimed at providing a specialized, intelligence-driven, and rapid response mechanism to effectively tackle violent crimes and other emerging security threats in the country. The CP further noted that the inauguration of the Civilian Oversight Board demonstrates the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to transparency, respect for human rights, and community partnership in policing, adding that the Board will serve as an independent supervisory body to promote accountability and strengthen Police Public Relations.

Members of the Civilian Oversight Board inaugurated at the event include: Representative of the Traditional Rulers Council, HRM King Wapaebiama David Amakiri, Obeneobhan II, Obhan-Emeyal Kingdom; Representative of Community Leaders, HRH Morrison Itelimo Odede, PhD, Obigbo Kiti Kiti VI, Obenaken of Okaka Autonomous Federated Community in Epie Kingdom; Representative of the Legal Profession Vice Chairperson of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Yenagoa Branch, Barr. CP IYAMAH RECEIVES AIG ZONE 16 ON OPERATIONAL VISIT TO BAYELSA STATE COMMAND

The Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State Command, CP Iyamah Daniel Edebor, psc, IICFIP, foosi, today, 18th May 2026, received the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 16 Headquarters, AIG Abubakar Zubairu, psc (+), on an operational visit to the Command.

In his remarks, the Commissioner of Police warmly welcomed the AIG to Bayelsa State and congratulated him on his posting to Zone 16 Headquarters. He also expressed appreciation for the timely operational visit shortly after his assumption of office, describing it as a demonstration of the AIG’s commitment to effective supervision and operational efficiency within the Zone.

Addressing officers and men of the Command, the AIG emphasized the need for discipline, professionalism, and dedication to duty. He strongly cautioned officers against acts of corruption and extortion, stressing that such unethical practices undermine public trust and are inconsistent with the core values and ethics of the Nigeria Police Force.

The AIG further charged personnel to embrace proactive policing strategies through intelligence-led operations, visibility policing, community partnership, and prompt response to security concerns. He also laid strong emphasis on strict compliance with Force Order 237, particularly regarding the lawful use of fi****ms, adherence to rules of engagement, and respect for fundamental human rights in the discharge of policing duties.

BAYELSA POLICE COMMAND ORGANISES TWO-DAY CAPACITY BUILDING TRAINING FOR OFFICERS ON THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE VIOLENT CRIME RESPONSE UNIT (VCRU)

In line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc (+), NPM, on the establishment of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) in every State Command across the Federation.The Bayelsa State Police Command, under the watch of CP Iyamah Daniel Edebor, psc, IICFIP, foosi, has successfully concluded a two-day intensive training programme for the newly established violence crime response unit ( VCRU). considering the fact that the seminar will be beneficial to officers of the command to enhancing professionalism, promoting respect for human rights, and improving service delivery in line with global best practices and the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, Tactical teams, Divisional Police Officers, Divisional crimes officers, Investigating Police Officers attendend the two (2) day training programme.

The training focused on critical areas of modern policing, including constitutional rights of citizens, the provisions of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015, principles on the use of fi****ms, the United Nations Code of Conduct for Law Enforcement Officials, prohibition of torture and inhumane treatment under Nigerian law, rights of vulnerable persons, complaint procedures and citizens rights to make complaints against Police officers, ethical conduct, anti-corruption and prohibition of extortion, lawful arrest, search and detention procedures, as well as attitudinal change and professional conduct.

The CP while addressing participants, charged officers to uphold the rule of law, respect the fundamental rights of citizens, and carry out their duties with integrity, professionalism, and accountability. He emphasized that the Nigeria Police Force remains committed to reform initiatives geared towards building public trust and confidence.

The training was facilitated by seasoned resource persons drawn from the Ministry of Justice, Bayelsa State, senior officers of the Command, and President foundation for Correction of Moral Decadence, who delivered lectures and interactive sessions on the various thematic areas.

The Command reiterates its commitment to continuous capacity development of officers and personnel towards ensuring a more professional, people-oriented, and rights-compliant policing system in Bayelsa State.

*BAYELSA POLICE ARREST FOURTEEN (14) SUSPECTS, RECOVER FI****MS, CARTRIDGES, AND SPEED BOATS IN OGBOINBIRI COMMUNITY*

The Bayelsa State Police Command, under the leadership of CP Iyamah Daniel Edebor, psc, IICFIP, foosi, in collaboration with the Joint Task Force (JTF), has recorded a major operational breakthrough following the arrest of fourteen (14) suspects and the recovery of fi****ms and other exhibits in OGBOINBIRI COMMUNITY, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

Preliminary investigation revealed that on 10th May 2026, at about 1430 hours, Police Operatives attached to the Command and personnels of the Joint Task Force, acting on credible intelligence, carried out a search warrant at the premises of one “Lionface,” identified as a loyalist to the former Youth President of OGBOINBIRI COMMUNITY, Southern Ijaw LGA, Mr. Pere Experience, and the Deputy Paramount Ruler of the community.

During the operation, the operatives recovered four (4) pump-action guns, three (3) packets of cartridges, and four (4) operational speed boats mounted with engines suspected to have been used for criminal activities along the waterways. Fourteen (14) suspects were arrested in connection with the operation, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the principal suspect, popularly known as “Lionface,” who is currently at large.

The Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State Command, CP Iyamah Daniel Edebor, psc, IICFIP, foosi, commended the operatives for the successful operation and reassured residents of the Command commitment to sustaining the ongoing crackdown on criminal elements across the State. The CP further urged members of the public to continue to support security agencies with timely and useful information that will aid ongoing efforts to rid the state of crime and criminality.

CP IYAMAH VISITS OKAKA AND YENIZUE-EPIE COMMUNITIES, STRENGTHENS COMMUNITY POLICING PARTNERSHIPS

In line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc (+), NPM, on strengthening community policing, the Commissioner of Police, CP. Iyamah Daniel Edebor, psc, IICFIP, foosi, yesterday 8th May, 2026, paid visits to Okaka Community and Yenizue-Epie Community bothYenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

During the visits, the Commissioner of Police engaged community leaders, youth representatives, women groups, and other critical stakeholders in interactive sessions aimed at fostering stronger partnerships between the Police and the communities.

The CP emphasized that effective policing can not succeed without the cooperation, support, and active participation of members of the public. He reiterated the commitment of the Bayelsa State Police Command to proactive policing, intelligence gathering, crime prevention, and protection of lives and property across the state.

The Commissioner of Police also delivered a brief lecture on the dangers of drug abuse, cultism, youth restiveness, and jungle justice. He advised the youths against involvement in cult-related activities and substance abuse, noting that such social vices often lead to violence, criminality, and destruction of lives and property. He further advised residents against taking laws into their hands, stressing that jungle justice is unlawful and undermines the rule of law and due process.

The leaders of both community appreciated the Commissioner of Police and his management team for the visit and pledged their continuous support and collaboration with the Police in promoting peace, security, and development within their communities and promise to inuagurate a local vigilante group and assure the CP of a good working relationships with the Police.

CP Iyamah urged residents to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and security conscious while encouraging them to promptly report suspicious movements and criminal activities to the nearest Police station. He further assured the communities of the commander's readiness to respond swiftly to security concerns and sustain peace and public safety.
