STATE HOUSE PRESS RELEASE

PRESIDENT TINUBU: WE ARE DETERMINED TO TAKE NIGERIA TO THE PROMISED LAND, LAUDS NATIONAL ASSEMBLY FOR SUPPORT

President Bola Tinubu said his administration is encouraged by the National Assembly's support over the last 19 months and is determined to take Nigeria to the Promised Land.

The President spoke Wednesday while receiving Vice President Kashim Shettima, the leadership of the National Assembly, and former principal officers of the National Assembly at his Oyinkan Abayomi Drive residence in Ikoyi, Lagos.

The New Year homage, led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, preceded a similar visit by members of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF).

"Nigerians are the heart of everything we are doing. We have come to serve. You have made my day by coming on this visit. Happy New Year. May God bless you and our country and give our nation more prosperity.

"The transformative journey we have embarked upon is for all of us. It is for our tomorrow. It is for the future generation. Your commitment will yield that fruit for the babies yet unborn.

"Your commitment to value addition and bringing about the spirit of can do and must do is for all of us together.

"It is for us to build a nation. We have confidence and competence. The enslavers want us to be anything but enslaved people, but we say no. We are determined, we are capable, and we are resolute, and we will be there. We will take Nigeria to that Promised Land with you,'' President Tinubu said at the meeting.

Acknowledging the encouragement from the lawmakers, the President pledged to work harder, embrace intellectual inquisitiveness, and make courageous decisions for national development.

"We have a saying in Yoruba that it is only a courageous dog that will capture the animal in the bush," he added.

Senate President Akpabio commended the President for his courage and commitment to reform and assured him that the National Assembly is firmly behind his administration.

"On this journey of restoration, transformation and rebuilding the nation, you are not alone. The National Assembly is with you and will stand by you," he said.

Akpabio highlighted the positive economic outlook under the Tinubu administration, citing achievements such as oversubscription of Nigeria's Eurobond, improvements in ease of doing business, and growing foreign investor confidence.

"We salute our men in uniform and commend you for your bold reforms. Investors remain interested in Nigeria because of your leadership, and we will continue to smile as the benefits materialise," he added.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas commended the President for his respect and support of the National Assembly.

He said many key figures in the administration, including the President, Vice President, Wife of the President, Chief of Staff to the President, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, and several ministers, were all former members of the National Assembly

''The National Assembly should consider itself lucky, and to God be the glory, Mr President, the National Assembly today is more united than ever.

''The National Assembly is more fulfilled than ever before because there is nothing we have ever knocked on your door to request for the National Assembly that you have not obliged.

''This is historic. This is commendable. We need to thank you for that. I also want to thank you for bringing more succour to the poor.

''Nigerians had more challenges at the beginning of 2023, but as the year ended, more food and prosperity started pouring in. We believe 2025 will be the ultimate year where every Nigerian will be proud of this administration, '' he said.

PRESIDENT TINUBU INAUGURATES NATIONAL ASSEMBLY LIBRARY, CALLS FOR COLLECTIVE ACTION ON UNITY

President Bola Tinubu, on Wednesday in Abuja, inaugurated the National Assembly Library and Resource Centre, which is named in his honour.

Before the inauguration of the library, the President had briefly attended a commemorative sitting of the National Assembly, where he made extemporaneous remarks.

President Tinubu, who had signed the National Anthem Bill, 2024, into law at the Presidential Villa earlier on Wednesday, said he was at the National Assembly as a mark of respect, and to congratulate the legislators and Nigerians on the 25th anniversary of Nigeria's unbroken democracy.

He extended his gratitude to the lawmakers and acknowledged the efforts and sacrifices made to build and sustain the country's democratic institutions.

"Our friends, old and new, to every Nigerian I say congratulations on 25 years of unbroken democracy. Out of respect, I have come to say thank you very much for building up this institution to this level. You are the foremost leaders who speak for our people and have been at the forefront of this struggle," President Tinubu said.

Highlighting the significance of the National Assembly, President Tinubu referred to it as a "hallowed chamber" that embodies the nation's consciousness for freedom and solidarity.

"You sang out the latest national anthem, ‘Nigeria we hail thee’. This is our diversity, representing all people and how we pledge together to be brothers and sisters.

"Without this House, I probably would not have found a path to the presidency, I started it all from here. That is why I have given that respect to you this morning to continue to collaborate with you to build our country together. We have no other choice. No other institution or personality will help us, except we do it ourselves for ourselves.

"No amount of aid from foreign countries can help us. Let us work together to build our nation, charting a new path," the President stated.

President Tinubu also emphasized the need to preserve and strengthen democracy for future generations.

"We must nurture our democracy so that our children and great grandchildren will be assured of prosperity, progress, and development," the President concluded.

In his remarks, Senate President Godswill Akpabio said the President's visit was out of respect for the National Assembly.

''Before you arrived, Mr. President, the Speaker and I had explained to the lawmakers that this visit is what is called 'waka pass' in Nollywood.

''You intend to celebrate Democracy Day on June 12, but out of honour and respect for the National Assembly you said you must pass through the National Assembly on your first anniversary," the Senate President said.

On Nigeria reverting to the old national anthem, Akpabio commended the President for taking the nation back to its roots stating: ‘‘Though we may belong to different tribes, though we have different tongues, in brotherhood we stand.’’

''There is no more fitting place to take us back to our genealogy other than the National Assembly, which is made up of patriotic and elected citizens of Nigeria. The voice of the National Assembly is the voice of Nigeria, so we welcome you,'' the Senate President added.

STATE HOUSE PRESS RELEASE

PRESIDENT TINUBU SAYS NIGERIA WILL CONTINUE TO PLAY A STRATEGIC ROLE IN AFRICA AS HE RECEIVES LETTERS OF CREDENCE FROM AMBASSADORS

President Bola Tinubu, on Friday in Abuja, reaffirmed Nigeria’s strategic position in Africa as a bastion of peace, saying the nation will continue to play its role as a stabilizer on the continent.

Receiving a letter of credence from the Egyptian Ambassador to Nigeria, Mohamed Ahmed, President Tinubu emphasized the shared commitment of both countries to promoting global peace and stability through collaboration within international organizations, such as the United Nations.

President Tinubu noted that since establishing diplomatic relations in 1961, Nigeria and Egypt have collaborated on key international priorities, including promoting regional peace, security, and stability.

The discussions at the meeting also touched on the situation in the Sahel and Sudan.

Acknowledging Egypt’s role towards a truce in the crisis in Gaza, President Tinubu said: ''We need to do more. Stability in the region is of paramount importance.''

Ambassador Ahmed conveyed President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi's willingness to bolster economic partnership with Nigeria, emphasizing Egypt's interest in increasing trade and investments between the two countries.

''We need to complement each other on investments. Many Egyptian companies are interested in coming to Nigeria to invest,'' the Egyptian Ambassador said.

In discussions with Major-General Sohail Ahmed Khan (retired), High Commissioner of Pakistan, President Tinubu described the Ambassador’s military background as invaluable for exchanging ideas to expand security and defence cooperation.

He underscored the need for global cooperation in combating terrorism and violent extremism.

''We must do more to stop extremists. We need to enhance our collaboration and exchange of ideas and knowledge in these areas.

''As a government, we will keep an open-door policy with countries and development partners on enhancing cooperation on security, economy, education, and the information and communication technology sector where the Minister is doing very well. How can we improve our bilateral relationship? We must do more,'' the President said.

The High Commissioner of Pakistan noted the demographic similarities between the two countries and expressed a desire to elevate the relationship to new heights.

''Pakistan has the fifth largest population in the world while Nigeria is the sixth largest. We have a significant youth population, and our national flags are similar. I would like to take our relationship to a new level, from strength to strength,'' the High Commissioner said.

In a separate meeting with Ambassador Athanasios Kotsionis of Greece, President Tinubu reiterated his administration’s commitment to an open-door policy that encourages collaboration and progress for the benefit of all.

He restated Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Greece and building bridges of cooperation to address common challenges.

The President assured the Greece Ambassador of Nigeria’s commitment to creating an environment conducive to socio-economic growth and development.

''Nigeria and Greece have good historic ties. We have shared priorities, including promoting democracy, and there is room to expand cooperation.

''The economic situation in Africa and Europe is still very unbalanced. We should build on the opportunities from our challenges and strengthen relations between the two countries.

''What I expect is an improvement in the relationship between both countries, and I look forward to us working on that.

''Our government is about renewed hope. Nigeria will continue to play its role as a stabilizer on the continent,’’ the President said.

Ambassador Kotsionis outlined Greece’s efforts to finalize agreements with Nigeria in the areas of tourism, scientific exchange, technology, and maritime.

''We are ready to sign the agreements with Nigeria as soon as they are ready. There is a lot to be done between the two countries, and we will need the support of your government. We hope to achieve incredible things in Nigeria during my stay,'' the Ambassador said.
