JCDI Unveils First-Ever Bottle Toilet in Adamawa, Hands Facility Over to GDSS Wuro Hausa, PTA, and Community
In a groundbreaking step toward sustainable development and climate action, the Jagamato Community Development Initiative (JCDI) has commissioned the first-ever Bottle Toilet in Adamawa State. The eco-friendly structure, built entirely from plastic bottles filled with sand, now stands proudly at Muhammadu Mai Memorial School (GDSS), Wuro Hausa, Yola.
The initiative follows JCDI’s selection as the Northeast implementing partner for the International Climate Change Development Initiative, with support from FCLI. The project kicked off in May 2025 with a community engagement session in Wuro Hausa, followed by an enlightening workshop on plastic pollution and waste recycling held at the American University of Nigeria (AUN).
In the spirit of community-driven development, residents of Wuro Hausa, students of GDSS, and the JCDI team collectively gathered over 6,000 plastic bottles. These were sorted, filled with sand, and transformed into building materials—replacing conventional blocks from the foundation all the way to the roofline.
During the handing-over ceremony, the JCDI Executive Director—represented by Mr. Julius Yakubu—walked attendees through the project’s phases and celebrated the dedication shown by the Wuro Hausa community and the school’s management.
The School Principal, Malam Adamu Aliyu, expressed heartfelt appreciation to JCDI and its partners, assuring that the school is committed to ensuring proper use and maintenance of the facility.
Community Head Ali Abubakar Faro described the project as a point of pride for Wuro Hausa. “I am proud that this project was sited in my community despite the many suitable locations elsewhere,” he said. “We do not take this for granted, and we assure you of our continued support in maintaining the toilet.”
The school’s Head Boy echoed similar sentiments, thanking JCDI on behalf of the students and pledging responsible use and protection of the facility.
Jagamato remains committed to driving climate action and promoting sustainable solutions across communities.
