🍭 Chapter 3 🍭
Aubrey Smith
I tap furiously on my phone screen, as I try to call Austin. Is he ignoring my calls?
My blood is boiling. I'm hurt.
Two whole years, and they all dumped me.
No! Aubrey Smith dumps people, not vice versa.
They have the perfect life now. Ugly child. Girlfriend. Boyfriend. I am irritated by everything. They all irritate me, especially Kayla.
Kayla thinks she's smart. I scoff, just thinking of her smiling and being all happy from all the cheesy things Xander does for her.
Pathetic girl.
My h*atred for her seems to grow everyday. It's not surprising anyways.
All those years of being friends with her, she rubbed her relationship in my face. She wasn't trying when she would intentionally talk her brother out of his feelings for me.
It was horrific, watching her get all the good stuff, while I was stuck with the bad stuffs.
The ringing of my phone, jolts me out of my thoughts. I groan and reach for it on the nightstand.
The caller ID shows. Unknown.
I blink. Maybe, just maybe, it might be Austin or Kayla. The bi*tch!
Picking up the call, I press the phone on my left ear. "Hello," I begin, with a fake, sweet voice. I drag in my pity voice. The voice that will make them think I regret my actions.
"Aubrey. It's Kayla," her voice is soft. She sounds like she don't want to talk to me. I mentally roll my eyes. I don't want to talk to her either.
Shaking the thought out of my head, I smile to myself. "Hey, Kay. Been a while."
She's silent for a while before speaking up. "Absolutely."
The conversation seems awkward. It's so obvious she don't want to speak to me. Maybe, her friend had talked her into speaking to me. "Yeah. I kind of lost your number."
"Oh no, I was the one who lost yours. I kind of misplaced yours when I got a new number."
I raise my brow up in confusion. Kayla is obviously lying. She always saved up all her numbers in goggle just in case. Oh well, what do I expect from a bit*ch!
"Okay. I guess you're being told I'm here, in New York?"
"Definitely. That's why I called. Lili had given me your number."
I nod, a satisfied smile crossing my face. I get ready to blackmail her emotionally. I need to win her trust, so I can finally destroy her. If I ain't happy, then she isn't supposed to be happy either. "Kayla," I begin, but she cuts me off immediately.
"No. I don't have anything against you. Everything is in the past now."
"At least, allow me apologise. I need your forgiveness," I rant, with the most sweetest and calmest voice ever.
She breathes out. "You're forgiven."
"Friends again?" I cooed, blinking my eyes, even though she isn't with me.
"Aubrey," she begins, her voice a little distant, "I can't trust you enough to be my friend anymore. You hurt me."
"I'm sorry. At least, can we meet before I leave tomorrow?" I ask.
"Sure. Pick a time and place, I'll drive there."
Bi*tch even got a car. Ugh. I h.ate my life already. I can't imagine how she'll show up.
Probably in a fancy clothing and a flashy car that will get the attention of many people.
While I'll look bad in my raggy outfit I got from the thrift store.
This is insane.
"Burger King. One o'clock."
"Perfect. I'll be there. Bye, Aubrey," she hangs up even before I can say a bye, too.
Flinging my phone to the corner, I groan loudly.
Do Kayla really deserve all I'm about to do to her? I mean, she literally did nothing to me. She only got the perfect life, a life I want.
I look up at the wall clock. The time is 10am.
Three hours to get ready to finally meet the bi.tch so I can execute my plans.
I smile devilishly at myself.
I sit in Burger King, my eyes searching everywhere for Kayla to walk in with that flashy outfit of hers. My jaw clench at the thought that she'd probably outshine me, as always.
After waiting for two hours and no sign of her, I order some ice sjora to calm my nerves down.
The bell at the entrance, dings, indicating that someone just walk in.
I whip my head towards the entrance. My body stiffens just at the sight of the most beautiful lady I've ever set my eyes on.
Kayla.
She looks so beautiful in her perfect body con gown that cling to her curves perfectly. Her jet black hair is tied in a tight bun at the top of her head. Her makeup is rich. Her heels clicks on the floor, as she walk towards me, with a bright smile that obviously did not reach her eyes.
On cue, I stand up to greet her. The scowl on my face is wiped away, replacing with a bright smile that looks too good to be fake.
"Kayla," I shriek in happiness, going over to pull her into a hug, "my goodness, you look absolutely stunning. I'm jealous," the words slips out of my mouth before I can stop them. My cheeks is red from embarrassment.
She blinks, once, twice. Her face falls, her mouth slightly twisting to the side.
"Oops," I shrug it off with a small, awkward laugh, "That came out wrong."
"I know," she mutters as she takes a seat opposite mine.
"What you gonna order? I'll pay," I smile at her. Ugh, my cheeks is already hurting from faking too many smiles. She isn't really smiling. She looks like she isn't happy to see me.
She wave me off with her hands. "Don't worry, I got it."
Show off! I try to hold back a scoff that is trying so hard to escape my lips.
I signal the waiter to come over. He walks up to us, a smile plastered on his oval shaped face. "Good day, I'm Jack, what's your order?"
Kayla eyes scans the menu on her hand. Her brow creases in confusion, before it brightens again. "I'll have some onion rings and a cup of latte."
The waiter turns to me, when I don't say a word. I clear my throat. "Cripsy chicken sandwich and mineral water," my ice sjora is still sitting on the table, almost half of it is remaining.
He gives us a nod and walks away.
"So, why are you here in New York?" Kayla asks, her eyes on me. It feels like she's staring directly in my soul, as her chocolate brown eyes pierces through me.
I don't have enough time to react before I answer. "To see you. I wanted to talk to you." To execute my plan to make your life miserable, I want to add, but keeps shut. That piece of information is prohibited, for now.
She licks her lips before looking down at her perfectly manicured nails. "Why do you feel the need to talk to me? I already forgave you."
I shake my head sideways. "I know you haven't. You still mad at me."
"I'm not," she defends herself.
"Yes you are."
"Seriously, I'm not."
"Then why did you block me out of your life? Why? I need answers."
She heave a sigh. "I did not block you out of my life. You know, what happened was traumatizing. I couldn't get over it quickly. But, I'm okay now."
She sounds unsure of her words.
".... I mean, I'm totally over Austin. You can have him now, if you wish."
My jaw clench at her words. Is she mocking me? "I don't need your leftovers," I blurt out before I can stop myself.
A small smile crosses her face. "Maybe you should take a chill pill for a while. Relationships are not just for you, especially when they're people's boyfriend's."
I fight the strong urge to spit on her pretty face. She's definitely mocking me. Trust me, I'm a good actress, I'm gonna show her who relationships is not for.
I open my mouth to talk, but the waiter arrive with our order. He bows, shoot Kayla a smile and scurry away.
Opening the cap of the water, I down some of it. I close it, drop it on the table and reach out for my chicken sandwich.
I'm watching Kayla as she reaches out to grab her phone from her Chanel bag. She smiles at just one stare at her phone.
"Hey, baby."
I know it's definitely Xander. I smile to myself. They wouldn't see me coming.
Austin. Xander. Kayla. Wouldn't see me coming.
"Excuse me," Kayla shoots me a smile before moving away from the table, with her bag and cup of coffee.
When she returns, she's all full of smiles. I want to ask her why she is suddenly happy, but I swallow back my words.
"I'll be leaving soon," she announces as she settle back into the chair.
"Why?" I throw her a look.
"It's my daughter's birthday in two weeks. We're going dress and cake shopping soon, so we have to make plans."
I raise my eyebrow, a pang feeling hitting my chest. "I'm not invited?"
"Of course you are. It's not strictly by invitation anyways," she shrugs. I know she's obviously lying. I've known her all my life. I'll know when she's lying or saying the truth.
"You still didn't invite me. And hell, I know it's strictly by invitation. You wouldn't want to have your house crowded with unknown guests."
She let out a sigh, slumping deep into her chair. "I'm sorry Aubrey. I'll send you an invitation card soon. Please don't fail to attend my daughter's birthday, I'm sure she'll be so excited to meet you."
I mentally smile. My plan will go smoothly than I intend for it to go.
Anyway, I smile at her. "I'll be glad to finally meet her." I say, with a proud smile.
