The Hightower Humanity Foundation has donated chairs and tables to persons living with disabilities in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, as part of its humanitarian efforts to improve the welfare and dignity of vulnerable members of the society.

The donation was formally received by Mr. Nyikke-abasi John Oku, President of the Association of Persons with Disabilities in Ibiono Ibom. He expressed appreciation to the foundation for the gesture, describing the donation as timely and impactful, particularly in addressing some of the everyday challenges faced by persons with disabilities.

Representing Dr. Marshall Umoren at the occasion, Mr. Eyakmo Udom commended the Hightower Humanity Foundation for extending its humanitarian activities to persons with disabilities. He noted that initiatives of this nature demonstrate the importance of inclusion and collective responsibility in building a society where everyone is given an opportunity to live with dignity.

The event also featured prayers for the founder, Dr. Marshall Umoren, its leadership and beneficiaries. The prayers were offered by Madam Ekanem Inyang, Mr. Itoro Edem Udo and others, who committed the initiative and its beneficiaries into the hands of God.

A NATIONAL CALL FOR ELECTORAL REFORM: THE TIME HAS COME FOR DIASPORA VOTING.

An Open Appeal to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the President of the Senate, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Members of the National Assembly, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), and All Nigerians of Good Conscience.

Nigeria stands at a defining moment in its democratic journey. As our nation continues to seek greater unity, accountability, and inclusive governance, there is one critical reform that can no longer be postponed, "the amendment of the Electoral Act and, where necessary, the Constitution to enable Nigerians living abroad to vote in national elections."

Millions of Nigerians in the diaspora remain deeply connected to their homeland. They support families, invest in businesses, transfer knowledge and technology, promote Nigeria's image globally, and contribute billions of dollars in annual remittances that strengthen our economy. Their commitment to Nigeria has never been in doubt.

Yet, despite these enormous contributions, they remain excluded from one of the most fundamental rights of citizenship—the right to vote.

Democracy is built on representation. No citizen should lose the right to participate in shaping the future of their country simply because they reside beyond its borders. Nigerian citizenship does not end at an international airport, nor should democratic participation.

Many nations around the world, including several African countries, have successfully implemented diaspora voting through secure and transparent systems. Nigeria has the capacity, the institutions, and the talent to do the same.
This reform is not about politics. It is about justice. It is about recognizing that every Nigerian citizen has an equal stake in the future of our nation.

It is about strengthening our democracy by making it more inclusive. It is about affirming that the voices of all Nigerians matter, regardless of where they live.

We respectfully urge the National Assembly to prioritize the necessary amendments to the Electoral Act and any constitutional provisions required to permit diaspora voting.

We call on INEC to continue developing practical frameworks for secure overseas voter registration and voting through Nigerian embassies and consulates. We encourage NiDCOM to sustain its advocacy and mobilize Nigerians across the globe in support of this historic reform.

We also call upon Nigerians in the diaspora to unite behind this common cause by engaging lawmakers, supporting civic advocacy, and speaking with one voice. Meaningful democratic reform requires collaboration between government institutions and citizens.

History will remember this generation of leaders not only for the laws they enacted, but for the rights they expanded and the citizens they empowered.

The future of Nigeria belongs to every Nigerian, whether at home or abroad.
The time has come to build a democracy that truly includes all its citizens.

Let us amend our electoral laws.
Let us strengthen our democracy.
Let us give every eligible Nigerian a voice.
The time for diaspora voting is now.

The Founder of Hightower Humanity Foundation and concerned stakeholder of Akwa Ibom State, Dr. Marshall Umoren, has called on the Akwa Ibom State Government to urgently address the growing issue of unlawful “settlement” demands by some community groups, describing the practice as a major threat to development and investment in the state.

In an open letter addressed to Governor Umo Eno, Umoren lamented that individuals and organizations who have lawfully acquired land are often subjected to repeated extortion by persons claiming to be youth leaders, community executives, and other local actors. According to him, these groups frequently disrupt ongoing projects, intimidate developers, and demand additional payments despite prior fulfillment of all legitimate financial obligations to landowners and host communities.

He noted that the trend has led to the abandonment of several development projects, loss of investor confidence, rising unemployment, and a slowdown in economic growth across the state. Describing the practice as “unjust, retrogressive, and anti-development,” Umoren warned that it sends a negative signal about the security of lawful investments in Akwa Ibom.

To address the situation, he urged the state government to enact legislation criminalizing unauthorized “settlement” demands and interference with legitimate development projects. He also recommended the establishment of a clear and transparent framework for land transactions and community compensation, as well as the empowerment of security agencies to promptly respond to and prosecute offenders.

Umoren further called for widespread sensitization of traditional rulers, community leaders, and youth groups to ensure compliance with the proposed reforms, stressing that the move is not intended to eliminate legitimate community benefits but to curb exploitation and multiple demands.

He expressed confidence that swift government intervention would restore investor trust, strengthen the rule of law, and promote sustainable development in Akwa Ibom State.

đź’ĄDEAR PEOPLE OF IBIONO IBOM!

As we enter this new month, may it bring renewed hope, unity, and a shared commitment to the progress of our land. May our collective vision continue to be guided by wisdom, fairness, and a deep respect for one another.

As we look ahead to 2027, it is important that we remain anchored to the enduring principles that have preserved harmony within our LGA. The wisdom of The Bible reminds us in Proverbs 22:28: “Remove not the ancient landmark which thy fathers have set.” This timeless truth speaks to the importance of honoring established systems that promote balance and equity among our people.

The zoning arrangement in Ibiono Ibom is one such landmark. It is not merely a tradition, but a structure built on fairness, inclusion, and mutual respect. It has helped ensure that every part of our community feels seen, valued, and represented.

True progress must never be built on unfairness. Advancement that ignores justice may appear beneficial in the moment, but it ultimately weakens trust, creates division, and undermines unity. Lasting development is achieved when fairness, equity, and respect for established principles guide our actions. It is not enough to move forward—we must move forward in a way that is right, just, and inclusive for all.

Therefore, as we prepare for the future, let us remain resolute in upholding the zoning principle. By doing so, we preserve our unity, strengthen our collective voice, and lay a solid foundation for sustainable progress.

Recently, the Founder of Hightower Humanity Foundation, Dr. Marshall Umoren extended goodwill support to his home-based football side, Akwa United FC as part of efforts to promote grassroots sports development. The gesture was demonstrated during a courtesy visit to the Hon. Commissioner for Sports, Mr. Paul Bassey, where he donated customized soccer balls, training kits, complete goalkeeper outfits, and additional financial support for players’ rehydration needs.

Speaking during the visit in Akwa Ibom State, the philanthropist emphasized that humanity is not limited to charity for the vulnerable alone but also includes supporting able-bodied individuals striving for excellence. He stressed that sustainable growth in society requires collective contribution from all citizens, regardless of how small the effort may seem, noting that consistent support for youth and sports development remains a pathway to community advancement and national pride.

The Founder of Hightower Humanity Foundation, Dr. Marshall Umoren alongside his wife, Dr. (Mrs.) Ifiok Umoren, has extended Christmas and New Year goodwill to persons with disabilities in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area, reaffirming his commitment to advocacy for their welfare. The event, which took place at the Ibiono Ibom Local Government Council Hall, Oko-Ita, attracted persons with disabilities from across the local government area.

Leadership of the disability groups (The Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JNAPWD), Ibiono Ibom Chapter, in collaboration with the Unique Persons with Disabilities Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society, Ibiono Ibom Chapter ably led by Mr. Nyikke-Abasi John Ntuk, received the gifts and donations on behalf of the beneficiaries.

Speaking at the event, the APC Chapter Chairman in Ibiono Ibom, Mr. Umo Ekop, described Dr. Umoren’s gesture as rare, noting that such selfless acts hardly come from individuals without political ambitions. He prayed for God’s continued blessings upon Dr. Umoren and encouraged him to sustain the humanitarian outreach.

In his appreciation remarks, the Chapter Coordinator of Persons with Disabilities in Ibiono Ibom, Mr. Nyikke-Abasi John Ntuk, expressed profound gratitude to Dr. Marshall Umoren and his wife for identifying with persons with disabilities at a critical time. He noted that the disability community in Ibiono Ibom had never experienced such a level of support from a truly selfless individual with no intention of contesting any political office. He prayed for God’s continued upliftment of the donors for bringing joy to the less privileged.

Responding, the Founder of Think Humanity Foundation, Dr. Marshall Umoren, expressed heartfelt gratitude to God for enabling him to fulfil his passion of supporting the vulnerable and downtrodden. He reaffirmed his commitment to sustained collaboration and advocacy for persons with disabilities in Ibiono Ibom.

According to him:
“As long as God continues to bless me, I will never abandon or disappoint you. I will continue to support and collaborate with you. It breaks my heart seeing the number of persons living with disabilities here. Please compile a detailed list of your challenges for me, especially those without crutches and wheelchairs, so that we can work towards addressing them.”

Highpoint of the event was the recognition of his outstanding humanitarian services, Dr. Marshall Umoren was presented with an Award of Honour by the disability groups.

The award reads in part; "An award of honour presented to Dr. Marshall Umoren, in celebration of your remarkable dedication to foster development, well-being and right of people with disabilities. This acknowledgement is presented today, 26th December, 2025"
