Aniekpeno Mkpanang Inaugurated as 6th International President of Ati Annang
Saturday, March 15, 2025, will forever be etched in the history of Ati Annang as a day of transformation and renewed purpose. On this remarkable day, Mr. Aniekpeno Mkpanang was inaugurated as the 6th International President of Ati Annang, ushering in a new era for the renowned sociocultural organization. The prestigious ceremony, held at the Ati Annang Secretariat in Ikot Ekpene, was a convergence of tradition, leadership, and a shared vision for progress.
The event was graced by an array of dignitaries, including Her Excellency Senator Akon Eyakenyi, the Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, who represented His Excellency, Governor Pastor Umo Eno, PhD. In her remarks, she conveyed the Governor’s message of unity and inclusiveness, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to equitable governance. “As an administration, we will uphold the principle of inclusive governance by spreading projects, appointments, and infrastructure to all parts of the state. Our One Project Per Local Government Area, road projects, and empowerment schemes are carefully conceived and consciously executed in furtherance of this philosophy of reaching all Akwa Ibomites,” the Governor’s message read.
Other notable attendees included the Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Udeme Otong, represented by Hon. Jerry Otu of Ikot Ekpene State Constituency; the Chairman of the PDP in Akwa Ibom State, Elder Aniekan Akpan; Itai Afe Annang V, HRM Akuku Blaise Awaka Ama; Obong Michael Afangideh; the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ubong Umoh; Senator Emmanuel Ibokessien; DIG Ekpo Udom; and Paul Usoro, SAN, who chaired the occasion.
The ceremony began with a pivotal moment as Barr. Uwemedimo Nwoko, SAN, the 5th International President of Ati Annang, formally dissolved the outgoing Executive Council and all standing committees. This symbolic act marked the conclusion of one chapter and the beginning of another. The dissolution was preceded by a motion moved by Barr. Emmanuel Enoidem, SAN, and duly seconded, setting the stage for the swearing-in of a new leadership team.
Sir Emem Akpabio, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, presided over the historic transition, presenting the newly constituted Executive Council for their oath of office. This act signified the commencement of a fresh chapter for Ati Annang, reaffirming its commitment to unity and cultural heritage.
Delivering his inaugural address titled “My Ati Annang Presidency: Pioneering a Fresh Vision in Community Service,” Mr. Mkpanang captivated the audience with his bold vision for the future. Reflecting on the legacy of Ati Annang’s founders, he declared, “Thirty-one years ago, the founders of Ati Annang carved a path where none existed and built a legacy. Today, as I take on this role, I must break new ground, embrace innovation, and explore fresh ideas.”
He called on members to actively participate in building a stronger and more impactful organization, stating, “Ati Annang was not built by spectators, so why must we stand on the sidelines? We will serve, we will build, and we will create change.” His words resonated deeply, setting the tone for a transformative tenure focused on innovation, inclusiveness, and community service.
A highlight of the event was the attendance of the International Executive Council of Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio, led by Akparawa James Edet. Their presence underscored the spirit of collaboration and mutual respect among sociocultural organizations in Akwa Ibom State, further elevating the significance of the occasion.
Mr. Mkpanang, a cultural luminary and seasoned public servant, brings a wealth of experience and creativity to his new role. Known for his visionary leadership and dedication, he is poised to bridge gaps, foster unity, and leverage Ati Annang as a platform for community development and cultural preservation.
Paul Usoro, SAN, who chaired the occasion described the event as an opportunity to re-echo the rich cultural heritage of the Annang Nation and commended the guests for their presence and support.
