"I'm the Best Foot Forward for the PDP in Urue Offong/Oruko" - Tom Efombruh Declares
A major contender for the Urue Offong/Oruko State Constituency seat, Hon. Tom Efombruh has described himself as one with the capacity to conveniently win the 2023 general election for the People's Democratic Party in the constituency.
Tom Efombruh made the assertion while consulting the leadership and delegates of the PDP in Urue Offong/Oruko at the party's chapter secretariat in Oyubia on Sunday.
Speaking on his preparedness to satisfactorily represent the constituency, he pleaded with the party delegates to ensure that someone who can make meaningful contributions to lawmaking in Akwa Ibom State, and effectively represent the constituency emerges the party's standard-bearer ahead of the general election in 2023.
Unveiling his plans for the constituency, Tom Efombruh recounted projects undertaken by all past and serving representatives of the constituency, emphasizing that he is driven by deep passion to consolidate on the achievements of his predecessors, and further set a new standard by adding more.
"My agenda is centred mainly around educational and entrepreneurial empowerment of our people. I recall that Urue Offong/Oruko was previously renowned for academic excellence and known as the brain basket of Oro Nation.
"To enable us reclaim this lost glory, I will ensure that we have a JAMB centre in Urue Offong/Oruko, and fund extramural classes to prepare our children as candidates for the annual examination," he said.
He further pledged to place premium on the empowerment of Urue Offong/Oruko women, whom he said are hardworking and mainly responsible for the welfare of families.
"In addition to the regular funding of the PDP structure in our local government area, within my first six months in office, we will establish a cooperative society, through which we will empower 100 women to undertake different ventures," he added.
Thanking the chapter chairman and the entire leadership of the PDP in Urue Offong/Oruko for providing a leveled playing field for all aspirants in the contest, Efombruh appealed to the party to hand him its ticket on trust, pledging that he will not disappoint the constituency, and he will make a vocal voice for the entire Oro Nation on the floor of the Assembly.
He also used the opportunity to drum up support for the completion agenda and succession plan of Governor Udom Emmanuel.
In his remarks, the Chairman of PDP in Urue Offong/Oruko, Hon. Okpo Edeke congratulated Tom Efombruh on his declaration, commending him on his unique style of politics, assuring that the party will remain fair to every interested person in the race.
Hon. Efombruh was accompanied on the occasion by his wife, Mrs Favour Tom Efombruh, the BOT Chairman, Divine Honour Campaign Organization, Hon. Okodi Ukoh, Campaign Secretary, Barr. Omen Bassey, the immediate past Chairman of Urue Offong/Oruko Local Government, Chief Umana Efombruh and spouse.
Also part of the entourage were Special Assistant to the Governor, Chief Asukwo Enweme (alias Levile), former local government secretary and ex Assistant Legal Adviser to PDP in Akwa Ibom State, Barr. Ita Okpoyo, as well as members of the Oro Nation Leadership Roundtable led by the Deputy Convener, Engr. Ben Edenseting.
