CANCELLATION OF 2020 CHRISTMAS CAROLS FESTIVAL

The Government of Akwa Ibom State wishes to inform the general public that the 2020 edition of the state's Award winning Christmas Carols festival has been cancelled.

This development is hinged on the logistics challenge posed by the global lockdown and international travel restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, in addition to the bourgeoning threat of a second wave of the virus.

As expected of world class events of that magnitude, its preparation starts at least six months before the date. The global travel restrictions and closure of factories earlier in the year, made it impossible to commence the planning of this annual soul lifting spiritual event this year.

The government deeply regrets this development and urges citizens to take personal responsibility, in addition to government restrictions, to prevent the transmission of the dreaded virus.

Eventful Saturday!

Earlier today, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Projects Monitoring, Hon. Johnson Attah, graced some events at his country home, Mkpat Enin LGA

1st, Hon. Attah attended the funeral service of Late Mrs. Rose Aaron Udo at Ikot Abasi Ufon in his home town, Mkpat Enin LGA.

He also graced the burial of Late Mrs. Grace Johnny Brown in Mkpat Enin and the burial of Late Chief Udoaka Udoma at Ikot Obio Akwa Mkpat Enin.

He subsequently moved to Ikono LGA for the traditional marriage of his friend, Mr Otobong and his beautiful wife Joy.

GOVERNMENT OF AKWA IBOM STATE

EXCERPTS FROM THE SPECIAL EXCO MEETING ON EDUCATION HELD ON WEDNESDAY 25th NOVEMBER,2020 AT THE EXECUTIVE COUNCIL CHAMBERS GOVERNMENT HOUSE,UYO

The State Executive Council Meeting of the Akwa Ibom State Government was chaired by HE the Governor, with HE the Deputy Governor, Secretary to the State Government, Chief Of Staff, Head of the Civil Service, Honourable Commissioners and Special Advisers in attendance.

The meeting which focused solely on education received the 10 year report titled Akwa Ibom State Education Roadmap(AKSER) presented by the Chairman of the Education Think Tank, Prof. Hilary Inyang. This report contained explicit situation analysis, comprehensive needs assessment and strategic action plan. This report accommodated all the levels of education and took cognizance of current and projected demographics.

Furthermore, the status report of the Akwa Ibom State University was presented by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Nse Essien. He gave a comprehensive report of the challenges, prospects and Programmes of the university.

The Report of the state of Secondary Education was presented by the Chairman State Secondary Education Board, Rt. Hon. Dr. Ekaette Ebong Okon. She extensively reported on the current situation of infrastructure, personnel and curriculum of secondary schools.

The state of primary education report was presented by the Permanent Secretary of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) Mr. Ezekiel Umoh. The report focused on the current state of interventions ongoing in 159 schools across the state.

Council’s Directives
The Governor as Chairman-in-Council directed the commencement of processes for the employment of 1000 teachers. Additionally, he directed that the 2019 promotion results for teachers be released immediately. The Council also directed that SUBEB must complete the intervention in all the 159 schools by the first quarter of 2021.

Ibom Golf and Country Club Plays Tournament to Celebrate Obong Victor Attah at 82

Ibom Golf and Country Club is set to host a tournament to celebrate with the Former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Obong Victor Attah on his 82nd birthday anniversary.

The tournament is an annual event designed to honour the father of new Akwa Ibom State based on his track records of developmental achievements and building an endearing foundation for a better Akwa Ibom.

The tournament is also organised to celebrate Obong Attah for building an exceptional golf course which is the best in Nigeria, and one of the best in Africa.

According to the Captain of Ibom Golf and Country Club, Barr. Usenobong Akpabio, the tournament is set to be played on 21st November, 2020, in 5 categories, viz: 0 to 12, 13 to 19, 20 to 28, Ladies and Veterans.

Subsequent programmes of the event are as follows, Friday, 20th, Arrival/Welcome Cocktail at Ibom Hotel and Golf resort and Saturday, 21st November 2020 Golf tournament/lunch buffet/cutting of cake/ prize presentation.

The tournament which will be played in the present of Obong Victor Attah and other dignitaries across the nation will feature presentation of prizes to winners at the competition.

Barr. Akpabio while addressing news men in Uyo stressed that over 100 golfers who have registered for the tournament from different golf clubs in the country, are expected to arrive Uyo for the tournament.

He described Ibom Golf and Country Club as the pilgrim home for golfers, noting that the visionary leadership of Obong Attah can not be forgotten in a hurry, especially in sports, tourism and recreational developments.

He noted that this year's dress code for the tournament has been changed from normal golf trouser to Ankara. “It will be so unique, instead of using the normal golf attires, we will add more color to it by wearing Ankara".
