NSE AKWA IBOM COUNCIL CELEBRATES 2023
WEEK WITH INDUCTION OF MEMBERS
Akwa Ibom State Deputy Governor, Her Excellency, Senator (Dr.) Akon Eyakenyi has declared open the 2023 Nigerian Society Engineering Week, Akwa Ibom State Branch, at NSE Secretariat, Uyo, September 27, 2023.
In her address, the Special Guest of Honour, Dr. Eyakenyi expressed delight at the event, Assuring members of the support of the State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno for Success of the programme, while
commending the State Executive Council for effective leadership.
"I consider it a huge honour to be invited to declare open the 2023 edition of Uyo Engineering week organized by the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Uyo Branch.
"I am particularly, grateful to the Chairman, Engineer Uwem Akpan and his team for raising the profile of the organisation in Akwa Ibom State".
Dr Eyakenyi described the theme of the event; "The Prospect of Indigenous Engineers in the Arise Agenda" as fitting and thoughful as it reflects the integration plan of the present State Administration for Indigenous Contractors.
Her Excellency, who was represented by the Hon Commissioner for Labour and Manpower Planning, Elder Aniefiok Nkom, stated that a study of the Arise Agenda of His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, reveals a conscious attempt at capacity building, promotion of entrepreneurship, wealth creation and development of the local resources.
Stressing that it is a deliberate policy of Government to promote and patronise local contractors and service providers as this will minimise capital flight.
Her Excellency maintained that under the Arise Agenda of the administration, that the Governor has taking the patronage of indigenous contractors to another level. She mentioned the case of HENSEK Construction Company, an indigenous service provider which has become a global brand due to quality service delivery and patronage by government, amongst others.
Earlier, presenting his address of welcome, the Uyo Branch Chairman of NSE, Engr. Uwem Akpan, followed by the National President and Chairman on the occasion, Engr. Tasiu Gidari-Wudil, FNSE, represented by Prof. Rasheed Babalola, FNSE, they both expressed delight with participants and dignitaries at the event, while appreciating the State Government for partnering with the body in Engineering programmes, calling for more collaborations.
Goodwill messages were delivered by the Chairman Ibom Power Company, Engr. Etido Inyang, Chairman Board of Fellows, Engr. Ifiok Umondak, amongst others.
The event which featured Technical session with paper presentations was chaired by Prof. B. R. Etuk, while Lectures were presented by the Hon Commissioner for Special Duties and Ibom Deep Seaport, Engr. Dr. Bassey B. Okon, on the topic; Ibom Deep Seaport and the Emerging opportunities; the Engineers Perspective.
Engr. Prof.Folarin Alonge, FNSE, Dean Faculty of Engineering, University of Uyo, presented on; Engineering Solutions to Agricultural Revolution. While, Engr. Ekpenyong Ekpenyong, FNSE, Director of Operation, AYF Development, Nig, lectured on Effective Road and Infrastructural Maintenance.
The one week programme which witnessed a colourful procession by a college of Fellows of NSE at the event will come to conclusion on Friday, September 29, 2023, with Dinner Night and induction of other members into the prestigious profession.
