*Akwa Ibom State Chapter*

*PRESS STATEMENT*

*Subject: Clarification on INEC’s Published List of ADC Candidates for Akwa Ibom State*

The attention of the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Akwa Ibom State Chapter, has been drawn to the recent list of candidates published by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

We hereby state for the record that the persons listed for Akwa Ibom State do not represent the ADC. They are impostors and will not appear on the ballot as candidates of our party.

For the avoidance of doubt:

*1. Court Position*
The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja nullified all congresses, primaries, and the national convention conducted by the David Mark-led faction of the National Working Committee. The Court further held that the congresses and primaries conducted by the authentic State Executive Councils, including Akwa Ibom State under Rt. Hon. Duke Dick, are the only ones recognized by law.

*2. Affirmation by the Court of Appeal*
The Court of Appeal affirmed the judgment of the Federal High Court. The David Mark faction subsequently filed an appeal at the Supreme Court and sought a stay of ex*****on of the Court of Appeal judgment. The Supreme Court declined the application for stay of ex*****on. The meaning of this is that INEC has a legal duty to implement the judgment of the Court of Appeal.

*3. Legal Obligation on INEC*
By virtue of the subsisting Court of Appeal judgment, INEC is under a legal duty to recognize and publish only the candidates that emerged from primaries conducted by the authentic party organs in Akwa Ibom State and in other states, including the FCT.

The publication by INEC of names affected by the restraining orders of the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal is, with respect, ultra vires the powers of the Commission and constitutes a breach of valid court orders.

While we note that INEC awaits the final determination at the Supreme Court, which in any case is likely to affirm the Court of Appeal decision, the Commission is bound to comply with the extant Court of Appeal judgment pending the Supreme Court determination.

*Our Demand*
The ADC, Akwa Ibom State Chapter, hereby gives INEC 72 hours from the date of this statement to comply with and enforce the Court of Appeal judgment. Failure to do so will compel the party to explore all lawful avenues to ensure compliance.

*Disclaimer*
This statement serves as a formal disclaimer to the unauthorized list of governorship, senatorial, House of Representatives, and House of Assembly candidates currently in circulation. That list does not represent ADC candidates for the 2027 elections.

For clarity, Senator John James Akpanudoedehe is not the ADC governorship candidate for Akwa Ibom State and will not be on the ballot in the next election. The fact that no genuine campaign activity has commenced by the said individuals further confirms their lack of standing.

We urge the public, our teeming supporters, and the media to disregard the false list.

Thank you.

*Signed*
