GUBER 2023: OBA EXCITES AKWA IBOM WITH STREET CAMPAIGNS

* As Traders And Buyers in Itam, Obo Annang, Mkpoho Eto Markets, Mechanic Village Declare Support For Him

The frontline contender for the governorship seat in Akwa Ibom state, Senator Albert Bassey Akpan, CON, of YPP, staged an unprecedented campaign roadshow in the state on March 11, 2023, to reassure his teeming supporters of his readiness to improve their fortunes, once they vote for him.

The roadshow, which followed one week postponement of elections by the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC), effectively helped to dispel disparaging rumours that OBA had stepped down for a lesser known candidate.

Senator Akpan, whose popularity and massive acceptability have been destabilising the opposition elements in the state, attracted shouts of approval at each brief stop, during the journey.

At Itam Market in Uyo, the people on sighting the YPP Gubernatorial Candidate, who waved at them through the roof of his car, went wild with excitement, shouting: “OBA is the governor we want. Umbrella is killing us.”

Some market women said seeing OBA physically has encouraged their resolve to vote for him on March 18, 2023, no matter the level of inducement and lies by the opposition.

According to them, seeing OBA has reassured them that he will not only stand the election, but will win and will be sworn-in as the next governor.

It took the motorcade almost an hour to pass through the popular Itam Market, as the women left their goods unattended to celebrate OBA, shouting: "You're the one we need. Umbrella don tear, broom don break. We want YPP, we want OBA!"

At Ikpe Annang Junction, in Ikot Ekpene, the people trooped out with leaves hailing: "OBA is here, OBA is here". Seven rounds of cannon gunshots were released in the senator’s honour, a ceremony reserved for special occasions and kingly visits, as OBA’s convoy went by.

Similarly, the crowd at Obo Annang Market in Ikot Ekpene was ecstatic on sighting OBA, who amidst shouts, expressed his appreciation for the love they have for him, assuring the people that he is contesting to win on March 18, 2023.

From Ikot Ekpene, the convoy stopped at Ika, where OBA told the crowd at Urua Mkpoho Eto, that those spreading rumours of his stepping down are afraid of his popularity, assuring them that he will surely win the election with their support.

“They lied to you that I have stepped down, they lied to you that I am still in prison, they lied to you that I am disqualified from contesting, but I'm here to tell you that I am on the ballot, I have not stepped down and I am not disqualified. I am on the ballot, vote YPP on March 18 2023. I will make sure my Operation Basic Amenities reach all of you, I will never disappoint you”, he said.

Amidst another session of jubilation, the senator added: "I am here to prove them wrong. No be me be this? I am still in the race. Dear Ika people, I know you've been abandoned for a very long time. I will wipe your tears, cry no more for hope is here" he added.

On leaving Mkpoho Eto Market, the motorcade drove through Urua Inyang, still in Ika LGA, to Etim Ekpo, then Abak en route Uyo.

At the popular mechanic village, back in Uyo, a crowd of supporters slowed the senator’s movement, chanting: "the incoming Governor of Akwa Ibom State." They went feverish when he alighted from his car and walked into the muddy Mechanic Village.

The street campaign later led to Urua Akpanadem in Uyo, where OBA received appreciative cheers from hundreds of traders and buyers, as one excited woman shouted: “We don't want someone that will come and build more hotels so we can see our female children in the house!”.

NEVER CAN WE BE FOOLED AGAIN! 🤚🤚

You want the elders support, yet you have refused to pay pensions, gratuities and other teachers' entitlement who happen to be in the cadre of elders.

You want the Councilors support, yet you have not paid them for over 4 months.

You want to earn students support, yet you denied them access to bursary, scholarships and other academic entitlements for over 7 years and still counting.

Few days to election you have again promised huge amount of money to get them aid the installation of your stooge. May it please you to know that we ain't fools any more, we know what we want and same shall we have.

On Saturday, 11th March, 2023, the people will decide who governs them.

BREAKING NEWS…!

COURT DISMISSES CASES CHALLENGING OBA’s ELIGIBILITY IN NEXT MONTH’s ELECTION.

A Federal High Court sitting in Uyo has dismissed the two cases challenging the eligibility of Senator Bassey Albert Akpan, the governorship candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), to contest the up-coming election on March 11, 2023.

,

Delivering judgement, on February 9, 2023, on the cases which argued that OBA was not eligible since he was sentenced to imprisonment on December 1, 2022, Justice M.A. Oyetenu, sitting in Court 1 of the Federal High Court, declared the matter dismissed.

The governorship candidate of the People’s Redemption Party (PRP), Mr Sunday Francis Ekanem and that of Zenith Labour Party, Nsikak Hogan Thomas, in separate suits, had asked the court to declare that OBA is not qualified to contest, because his jail sentence has not reached ten years.

In suits number FHC/ ABJ/CS/2304/2022 (FCH/UY/11/2023) and FHC/UY/CS/357/2022, Thomas and Ekanem, respectively, also asked the court, among other things, to direct INEC to delete Senator Akpan’s name and the YPP logo from the ballot.

Incidentally, both cases were filed on December 14, 2022.

However, following a strong counter filed by Senator Akpan’s legal team, the ZLP and PRP governorship candidates beat a retreat by filing for withdrawal, after they realised that their cases lacked merit in law.

Consequently, following their withdrawal and without any opposition from their counsels, the court dismissed the suits, indicating that there is no legal huddle against OBA contesting the governorship election on March 11, 2023.

NOBODY HATES UMO ENO. ..A bad system cannot give us a good person.

MY RESPONSE:

Dear Emma Akpabio you got it wrong by using the word "HATE UMO ENO".

To be honest with you, Nobody hates Umo Eno.
We only hate the porous system that is bringing another porous person to come and continue from where they stopped.

We hate the system that collected our 13% derivation funds without any tangible project to show yet the same system wants to impose someone on us, a least qualified candidate for that matter.

We hate a system that failed Akwa Ibomites after promising us 31 industries yet no single Government owned Industry is seen functioning anywhere in the State. This is the same system that is bringing Umo Eno. A goat cannot give birth to a lion.

We hate a system that focuses on victimization and enslavement of the common people of Akwa Ibom State instead of focusing on the wellbeing of the people.

We hate the system that is forcing Umo Eno on us despite the public rejection.
Nobody hates Umo Eno. He is only inheriting the enemies of the system that brought him.

Yes, he is not wanted, he is rejected because he is not qualified and the system that is bringing him has failed the people.

This is my submission.

IKONO YPP WARD-TO-WARD GOVERNORSHIP CAMPAIGN (Phase 2) ( Wards 1-4; 6&7; 5&8)

OBA Promises to Make Ikono Agricultural Hub; Establish Oil Palm Processing Mill.

To Construct Itak-Ikot Udo /Ukpom-Ikot Nseyen Road and Ikot Ayan-Nkwot-Nung Ukim Road.

To Revamp College of Arts and Science; Revitalise General Hospital in Ibiaku Ntok Okpo.

Ikono people have been assured of an impending era of massive development of roads and other rural infrastructures, under the YPP government. The area is also to become an agricultural hub, in addition to an oil palm processing mill.

Senator Bassey Albert Akpan, CON, governorship candidate of the Young Progressives Party, while addressing the massive crowd of supporters at the various locations during the ward-to-ward campaign, also promised to revamp the the College of Arts and Science, Nung Ukim in Ikono Local Government Area, to meet the 21st-century educational standard.

OBA, who made above promises during the second phase of the YPP ward-to-ward governorship campaign on January 28, 2023,
regretted the deplorable condition of roads in Ikono, promising to construct the Ikot Ayan-Nkwot-Nung Ukim Road; Itak-Ikot Udom/Ukpom-Ikot Nseyen Road, when he becomes the next governor.

He maintained that his passion for education which has so far made him to sponsor over 481 students in universities will not die when elected into office, as he will do more for Akwa Ibom students, including payment of bursaries.

The guber hopeful who identified health as a very critical sector, said he will also upgrade the standard of the General Hospital, Ibiaku Ntok Okpo, urging the people to safeguard their PVCs which will enable them vote for him in this year's elections.

Lending a voice to her husband’s, Pastor (Mrs.) Imaobong Albert, said they will create opportunities for youths through social services and empowerment of women using cooperatives and Operation Basic Amenities (OBA).

"Akwa Ibom has come of age, and we know what is good. We are going from ward to ward to wake Akwa Ibom people from sleep. Let them not deceive you again. It is time for you to take the decision now. YPP has gone round to meet the people of Akwa Ibom. Let me ask you: is your life in the past seven-and-half years not worth more than N10,000? Why have they suddenly woken up to give you that now? Don't vote for people foisted on you by godfathers, but those who have been chosen by the people. Vote for someone who will be accountable to you and not to their godfathers”, she said.

"This is opportunity you and I have to make that a decision. What we are looking for is a better Akwa Ibom. Akwa Ibom deserves the best. That is why my husband is poised to serve you. He will ensure the funds of our state are justly distributed by ensuring that all the promises he has made are all implemented", Mrs. Albert assured the crowd.

Similarly, Mrs Janet Amba, wife of the deputy governorship candidate, said the best thing for Ikono and the entire state will be to have OBA as governor.

While regretting the deplorable condition of roads in Ikono, she said OBA's sterling records as Commissioner and Senator should convince them to believe in his capacity and urged all to keep their PVCs and vote for OBA for a better Akwa Ibom.

" I am telling you, we have won this election. The solution to your problems is OBA. So on that day, you have to go out with your voter’s cards, vote for OBA and all other YPP candidates, and I assure you, your conditions will change", Mrs. Amba charged the crowd.

The chairman of YPP in Akwa Ibom State, Apostle Nyeneime Andy, while appreciating the people of Ikono for their love, promised that their deplorable condition will soon be over, maintaining that OBA, their son, remains the most qualified and fully prepared for governorship.

Andy advised them to put to use their voter’s cards in a way that will bring solutions to their problems.

In his tone setting, the Director General of Akwa Ubok Abasi Campaign Organisation, Pastor Sunny Ibuot, said time has come to have a son from the Eastern Ibibio Ikono as the next Governor of Akwa Ibom State.

After enumerating the various positive qualities of OBA, he asked for support for all YPP candidates, while assuring them that their conditions will improve with OBA as governor.

"We decided to come to remind you today that the only section of the state that has not produced a governor is the Eastern Ibibio Ikono. Let it be known that you have knowledge of what your son, OBA has been doing and he is best qualified for the seat. You cannot have such a qualified and fully prepared man, but go and vote for someone who is not qualified. We assure you, when all our candidates win and are sworn in, you and I will enjoy together".

Earlier, Barr. Eteyen Archibong, chairman of Akwa Ubok Abasi Campaign in Ikono, in his welcome remarks, said the people of Ikono have made up their minds to vote for OBA and all other YPP candidates, since the party has genuine programmes for the people.

He berated the PDP government for not keeping to the promise of linking Ediene with other communities through good roads, and expressed the need to have a government that will be sincere to the people.

One of the high points of the rally was when Hon. Emmanuel Ukpong, former chairman of Ikono, led over 500 defectors from other parties into YPP.
