We received a delegation from the China Harbour Engineering Company Limited led by Mr. Nicolas Liu, where we discussed the proposed Azumini - Obeaku Sea Port and Inland Waterways Corridor project in Abia State.

I have granted approval for an immediate feasibility study on the project. While the company initially suggested a six to seven-month timeline, I have directed that the study be completed within a shorter period so that progress can be accelerated.

Alongside the study, we will begin the process of securing approvals from the Presidency, Nigerian Ports Authority, and the Federal Ministry of Blue Economy. I have also encouraged the team to visit the proposed site to assess its viability, given its proximity to the High Sea and the technical requirements such as dredging.

The project has the potential to transform Abia State’s economy and contribute significantly to Nigeria’s maritime development. With strong commitment, proper funding, and strategic partnerships, we can make the Azumini Sea Port a reality.

I thank the team from China Harbour Engineering Company Limited for their presentation and look forward to positive outcomes from the feasibility study.

Today, we celebrate the heartbeat of our state: the hardworking men and women who keep Abia moving forward. Your dedication, resilience, and integrity inspire the “New Abia” we are building together.

Since assuming office, our administration has prioritized the welfare of workers through consistent salary and pension payments, improved wages, better working conditions, and reforms that promote productivity and fairness in various sectors. We have also invested in workplace infrastructure and expanded employment opportunities to strengthen the public service and empower our people.

Our commitment remains unwavering: to ensure that every worker in Abia enjoys dignity, fairness, and reward for honest labour.

As we mark this Workers’ Day, let us continue to build a state where hard work truly pays and excellence is celebrated.

Happy International Workers’ Day!

Yesterday, I observed the maiden inaugural meeting of the newly elected National Working Committee (NWC) of our great Party at the Labour Party National Headquarters in Abuja.

Following the successful National Convention held in Umuahia on April 28, I am pleased to declare that the most challenging period in our Party’s history is behind us. As I stated, “No victor, no vanquished, everybody is a winner.”

I congratulated Distinguished Senator Nenadi Usman and all members of the new NWC. Her resilience and commitment to service are commendable. I urged the team to lead with unity of purpose, discipline, and dedication, always remembering that true leadership is anchored on service, not personal gain.

The Labour Party has emerged stronger, more united, and better positioned to serve Nigerians. Reconciliation efforts are already yielding results, with leaders from across the country reintegrating into the fold. Together, we will build a Party that Nigerians are proud to identify with.

The task ahead is clear: we are preparing to fully participate in the 2027 general elections, and with unity, we shall succeed.

Along with other stakeholders, delegates and members of our great party, I took part in the Labour Party's 2026 Elective National Convention in Umuahia yesterday.

I commend the leadership for successfully organising a peaceful, inclusive, and transparent convention. I warmly congratulate the newly elected 34-member National Working Committee whose emergence reflects true national inclusiveness, with representation from all geopolitical zones of Nigeria. I was also delighted to acknowledge the presence of Her Excellency, Mrs Betty Akeredolu, former First Lady of Ondo State, who participated actively in the convention as a proud member of the Labour Party. Her commitment and contributions further highlight the strength and diversity of our movement.

I equally wish to acknowledge the leadership of the dissolved Caretaker Committee, whose stewardship provided stability during a critical transition period. Their efforts, alongside those of other members, ensured that our party remained united and prepared for this historic convention.

As I noted in my remarks, politics is a game of numbers. Our new leaders must prioritise reconciliation, reintegrate aggrieved members, and expand the party’s base through active engagement and electronic membership registration. Rebuilding trust and fostering unity will be critical to our collective success. I also charged the new leadership to ensure credible and transparent primaries across all levels. I thank Prof Adam Sani (SAN), one of the Commissioners with Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other officials for effectively monitoring the process.

Finally, I expressed confidence in the capacity of the Nenadi Usman-led team. She is a woman of integrity with extensive public service experience, and I believe that with collective support, her leadership will deliver success for our party and for Nigeria.

Today, I joined party faithful, delegates, stakeholders, and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at the Labour Party State Congress held at our Secretariat in Umuahia. It was a historic gathering that produced a new set of leaders to steer the affairs of our great party in Abia State.

I warmly congratulate Mr. Peter Azubuike, who emerged as the new State Chairman, alongside other officials elected to serve. Their emergence marks the beginning of a new era of unity, cohesion, and purposeful leadership for the Labour Party in Abia.

The peaceful and transparent nature of the congress reflects our commitment to democratic values and inclusiveness. I commend the outgoing leadership led by Sir Emmanuel Nweze-Oti for their dedication during challenging times, and I assure the new team of my administration’s full support as they begin their journey.

Together, we will continue to strengthen our structures, mobilize our members, and ensure that the Labour Party remains the people’s choice in Abia State.

As we prepare for the national convention later this month, I call on all party members to remain steadfast and united. The days of division are behind us. Going forward, we will all pull together in one direction.

Abia is on course, and the Labour Party is ready to lead with renewed energy and vision.

Yesterday, I had the honour of performing the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of 1,200 housing units under the Federal Housing Authority’s Renewed Hope Housing Project in Umuahia.

This landmark project, made possible through the collaboration between the Federal Government and the Abia State Government, makes Abia the first state in the South East, and among the first five states in Nigeria, to partner with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration on this initiative.

I sincerely thank His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for approving the project and commend the MD/CEO of the Federal Housing Authority, Hon. Oyetunde Oladimeji Ojo, and his team for their commitment. Together, we are expanding access to affordable housing and improving the welfare of our people.

Before authorising the groundbreaking, we ensured that verified landowners among the host communities were duly compensated. Out of about 900 claimants, over 800 have already been settled in full, while the remaining are encouraged to resolve bank or ownership issues so they can access their payments, which are already deposited in the bank.

As I emphasized during the ceremony, our focus remains on people-oriented projects that uplift lives, beyond the distractions of politics, ethnicity, or religion. The welfare of Abians will continue to be our priority.

Today, we officially declared open the 2026 ANPA Medical Mission at the Michael Okpara Auditorium, Umuahia.

The mission, organized by the Association of Nigerian Physicians in the Americas (ANPA) in collaboration with the Abia State Government, is a testament to our shared commitment to expanding access to free, quality healthcare and strengthening our health system through partnerships and capacity building.

At the heart of our development agenda is the welfare of our people. We believe that healthcare and economic prosperity are inseparable. Healthy citizens drive productivity, guide investment, and secure long term growth.

I commend ANPA for returning to Abia as a dependable partner in our healthcare transformation journey. The mission will not only provide immediate medical relief but also build the capacity of our local health workers through knowledge transfer and exposure to global best practices.

As part of our efforts, we have approved the recruitment of 851 healthcare professionals, with 629 already deployed across facilities. We are also working to institutionalize collaboration with ANPA, incorporating telemedicine and digital healthcare solutions to ensure sustainability.

Special thanks to the ANPA team, their leader Dr. Cliff Eke, stakeholders in the sector, and the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Prof. Enoch Ogbonna, for their dedication and partnership in driving this mission forward.

Abia is steadily positioning itself as an emerging destination for investment in health and other critical sectors. I am confident that the outreach will leave lasting stories of lives saved, joy restored, and renewed faith in humanity.

Earlier today, I visited the site of the fire incident that occurred yesterday at a facility linked to Nigerian Breweries Plc in Aba. I am grateful to God that no lives were lost and that the damage was limited to empty crates without bottles.

I commend the intervention of the Abia State Fire Service, alongside other emergency agencies, whose coordinated efforts ensured the inferno was contained before it could escalate. Their response prevented what could have been a major disaster.

During the visit, I also met with the Chief Engineer of Nigerian Breweries, Aba, Engr. Benjamin Okore, who briefed me on the company’s immediate emergency response and the collaborative efforts with our fire service teams. His account reaffirmed the importance of strong partnerships between government and industry in safeguarding lives and property.

The incident is a reminder of the need for vigilance and preparedness against unforeseen emergencies. While we pray such events never happen again, we must always remain ready.

Nigerian Breweries has been part of Abia for nearly 70 years, and our administration remains committed to providing an enabling environment for businesses to thrive. Abia is a home for all Nigerians, where unity and collaboration continue to define our progress.

Today, we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. The resurrection is the cornerstone of the Christian faith, a powerful reminder that light triumphs over darkness, hope conquers despair, and life prevails over death.

Through His victory over the grave, humanity has received the gift of salvation, the assurance of eternal life, and the promise of renewed hope. Easter calls us to embrace love, forgiveness, and compassion, values that strengthen our communities and uplift our nation.

As we rejoice in this season of renewal, may the blessings of Easter bring peace to our hearts, unity to our families, and prosperity to our land.

Happy Easter to all!

As we commemorate His passion and death, let us be reminded of the boundless grace that flows from His sacrifice, a grace that calls us to live with compassion, forgiveness, and unity.

May this sacred day renew our faith, strengthen our bonds as one people, and guide us towards a future built on love and peace.

I wish all Christians a blessed Good Friday.
