OKOMU NATIONAL PARK (ONP), NIGERIA HITS DAY 5 OF WORLD FEMALE RANGER WEEK (WFRW) 2023.

Today, the 27th June, is day 5 of WFRW, 2023 with the theme: "CHALLENGES".

In their discussion on the theme, the Female Rangers of ONP shared their various challenges as follows:

* Separation from families as a result of postings to different locations where National Parks exist.

*Little or no privacy in Ranger Barracks shared with their male counterparts.

* Unsupportive carrier choice by their families.

* Managing the home front and work at the same time.

* Lack of proper health care facilities, portable water and schools for their wards, due to remoteness of the locations where some of the Parks are sited.

* Also the remoteness of some of the sites do not allow them get their choiced cusmetic and hairdo.

* They deny their faces of makeup artistry.

*Lack of Banks for some specific financial transactions.

* * *The challenges are enormous, but "PASSION DRIVES US ON" and "WE BEAT THE ODDS".

The Female Rangers are pleading with the Conservator General of the Service and his management team to consider and address some of the challenges like demarcating the Ranger Barracks to allow for little privacy.

WORLD FEMALE RANGER WEEK, 2023.

DAY 3: FEMALE EMPOWERMENT

Today, the 25th of June, being day 3 of the World Female Ranger Week, 2023, the Female Rangers of ONP, NIGERIA engaged again in a round table discussion to deliberate on the theme of the day, "FEMALE EMPOWERMENT".

From the discussion, the Female Rangers of ONP unanimously agreed that the National Park Service is empowering Female Rangers alongside their male counterparts by granting them opportunities for in-service trainings which are meant to improve on their entry status into the Service. Such trainings have enabled some Female Rangers to become certified professionals in different fields, leading to their being upgraded to Heads of Units in different Parks, and very able in delivering their schedules with a touch of professionalism.

In conclusion, the Female Rangers, while appreciating the National Park Service Management led by the Conservator General, Dr. Ibrahim M. Goni for improved gender inclusiveness in the Service, like Oliver Twist, are requesting for more leadership positions in the Service.
