ADVICE TO YOUNG MEN

Listen up, men! The rate at which young men are dropping dead from kidney failure in Nigeria is frightening. Men in their 20s, 30s, early 40s collapsing like old men because their kidneys have packed up. And guess what? Most of it is preventable.

(This post is for educational purposes only , do not take it as a medical advice, consult your doctor!)

I spoke with a doctor, and here’s exactly what he told me — raw and unfiltered:

1. TOO MANY PAINKILLERS ARE KILLING YOU
Your back pains, your headaches, your “stress,” your gym cramps… and the first thing you swallow is diclofenac, felvin, ibuprofen, tramadol like groundnut.
These drugs quietly damage the kidneys over time.
A lot of you are walking around with kidney damage and don’t even know.

2. LOW WATER INTAKE
Men drink coke, energy drinks, beer, alcohol… but can go a whole day without drinking ordinary water.
Your kidneys need water to flush your system.
When you deprive them, they begin to die.

3. HERBAL MIXTURES AND ALCOHOL
Those agbo, bitters, “manpower,” and alcohol combinations are destroying your kidneys.
Your body is not a chemical lab.

4. STEROIDS AND GYM SUPPLEMENTS
All this overnight six-pack rush is costing men their kidneys.
Fake supplements, unprescribed protein powders, and steroids are frying kidneys everywhere.

5. HOLDING URINE
You’re busy, you’re on the road, you think you’re a warrior.
Holding your urine regularly damages your bladder and forces your kidneys to work overtime.

6. UNTREATED INFECTIONS
UTIs, STIs, untreated gonorrhea, untreated syphilis — all these things don’t stay in one place.
They travel.
They affect your kidneys.

7. SMOKING AND HEAVY DRINKING
You think you’re forming big boy.
Your kidneys are suffering.

EARLY SIGNS OF KIDNEY FAILURE (DON’T IGNORE THESE)
These are the symptoms the doctor said most young men ignore until it’s too late:

• Constant fatigue (you’re always tired)
• Swollen feet or face
• Foamy urine
• Reduced urine output
• Back pain (not muscle pain, kidney pain)
• Nausea and vomiting
• Itchy body
• Loss of appetite
• Darkening of your skin
• Difficulty concentrating
• High blood pressure (big warning sign)

If you’re experiencing any of these consistently, go to a hospital immediately.
Don’t Google it.
Don’t drink agbo.
Don’t take random drugs.

HOW TO PREVENT IT (DOCTOR’S ADVICE):
• Drink at least 2 to 3 liters of water daily
• Stop abusing painkillers
• Reduce alcohol drastically
• Stop manpower and agbo
• Avoid unnecessary supplements
• Treat infections immediately
• Check your blood pressure often
• Do a kidney function test once a year
• Reduce salt
• Avoid processed foods
• Stop holding your urine
• Exercise regularly

Men, you cannot be powerful if your kidneys are weak.
Before you chase money, women, success, or masculinity — protect your health first.

THE NEED FOR POLITICAL RE-ORENTATION OF OUR PEOPLE

I wish to start this article by stating the obvious fact - that our people are not politically conscious and even those amongst us who appear to be politically conscious are either laddened with emotions or sentiments.

All over the world, sentiments or emotions do not bring about political dividends and hence the need for us to face the reality before us. Anyone abreast with the happenings in the political landscape in Nigeria would
understand that party do not make an individual but individuals make the party. That is why even if Tinubu for instance declares to contest under our darling PDP or Labour party, very many persons in Affa will still not vote for him. And it explains why we are eager to vote for Peter Obi for instance even if his chosen political party is a Sendforth Party or ADC as currently insinuated. This is to buttress the fact that we ordinarily vote individuals and not party.

Now, back to our discussion, in 2023, we made various political commitments and miscalculations which has yielded us no positive result. Affa as a town has been relegated politically. As I type this, not a single person of Affa decent is appointed as commissioner or even SA to the State governor. Those who managed to be so appointed are hallelujah boys with little or nothing to show for it! Sad isn't it?

Affa by political calculation is large enough to be a local government of some sort. We are the second largest if not the largest town in the entirety of Udi or Enugu as the case maybe. We should have a bargaining power to determine who gets what, when and how.

In 2027, I am aware one of our sons Hon. Dennis Oguerinwa Amadi would likely be aiming for the Senate under the APC. It is time we begin to jettison our dislikes for certain political parties especially when it appears the party is likely to favor one of our sons. For the last two years, Affa has been in political comatose and if we continue to toe that path we did in 2023, it may take us eternity to politically recover.

And like I said, this little piece is to encourage us all to learn to support our own even if they didn't come from the supposedly 'right' parties. In 2027, we should be all out for Dennis Oguerinwa Amadi and every other individuals of Affa decent declaring for any political position. With this, we can begin to compete politically with other towns and wards in Enugu.

What has the governor of Enugu State under the PDP done for Ndị Affa in the last two years? Absolutely nothing! What has the Local Government Chairman done for us? Nothing! What has the Senator representing Enugu West done for us? Nothing!!

The rate of kidnappings in Eke-Egede-Affa Road increased in recent time because of the deplorable conditions of the road. Had the road been fixed, it would have reduced to the barest minimum.

Let me shock you, that road we were told has been flagged off for construction several times but nothing to show for it. If the Senator representing Enugu West had come from Affa, it would be to his eternal shame if he didn't fix it. Same applies if the Local government chairman or governor is from Affa.

The time to be politically conscious is now!

We deserve better as a people.

May we not loose ourselves in the search for ourselves.

Court Sentences Late Gospel Singer
Osinachi’s Husband To Death By Hanging........

Justice Njideka Nwosu-Iheme of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), sitting at Wuse Zone 2, Abuja, has sentenced Peter Nwachukwu, husband of the late gospel singer Osinachi, to death by hanging, News360 Nigeria reports.

The judgement, delivered today, comes after the court found him guilty of culpable homicide, which led to the singer’s death on April 8, 2022.

The ruling followed a thorough trial in which the court held that the prosecution successfully established its case beyond reasonable doubt. Nwachukwu was arraigned on June 3, 2022, by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation (OAGF) on behalf of the Federal Government. He faced a 23-count charge, including culpable homicide punishable by death, criminal intimidation, cruelty to children, spousal battery, and other related offences.

During the proceedings, the prosecution presented 17 witnesses, including two of the couple’s children who testified as the fourth and fifth prosecution witnesses. In addition, 25 documentary exhibits were tendered before the court. Nwachukwu, on his part, testified in his own defence and called four additional witnesses while tendering four exhibits.

Before the sentencing, the defendant’s counsel, Reginald Nwali, pleaded for leniency. However, prosecuting counsel, Mrs. Aderonke Imala, urged the court to uphold the law as prescribed.

Justice Nwosu-Iheme thereafter handed Nwachukwu a death sentence by hanging on Count 1. The court also imposed two years imprisonment each on Counts 2, 3, 8, 9, 12, 13, and 18; six months imprisonment on Count 10; and three years on Count 11. Additionally, the defendant was fined N500,000 and N200,000 on Counts 6 and 7 respectively.
