In the tapestry of time, a chapter unfolds,
A story anew, as the future it holds.
With the chimes of midnight, a year is reborn,
A canvas of dreams in the early morn.

Echoes of yesterday softly retreat,
As the dawn of promise and hope we greet.
In the palette of moments, colors align,
A symphony of chances, a year to define.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Moonbeam
Episode 24

Civic Towers rooftop, Lagos Island. 1:09am

Willow sat up from where she had been sitting all along. Her body twitched as her breathing became heavy. She clasped her hands on her head as she staggered. “AAAARRGGHHHHHHH!!!!” she yelled loudly in anger.

She gritted her teeth and looked around, burning with rage. She had walked towards the edge of the tall building.

Without thinking, she jumped from the edge of the building and quickly snapped her fingers. A black pin glowed red light and increased the gravitational pull around her line of fall, causing her to fall speedily to the ground. When she was a few feet away from the ground, a motion sensor which was chipped in the black pin beeped and the red light turned green, suspending every gravitational pull around her and causing her to float. She then got down safely and disabled the gadget.

An hour later, she came back to the building but this time with a woman. The woman’s face was bloodied and swollen and she was unconscious as she had been severely beaten by Willow.

She pulled the woman towards the edge of the building and sat there, with her legs swinging in the air. She adjusted the woman uprightly and placed her against a stone, so it would look as if the woman was sitting too.

“You know, this world doesn’t need people like you,” she started. “I mean, we have too many evil people who like to take advantage of the weak around them, right?” she said as she looked towards where the unconscious woman was. By using her fingers to control the force of gravity around the woman, the woman’s head bobbed slightly.

“You seeee, you agree with me too,” Willow said as she smiled cheekily. “So I’ll be pushing you down now, no hard feelings, but I’m sure the little boy you’ve been molesting for a while now would be glad when your dead body is displayed on the news tomorrow,” she said as she clapped her hands. The black pin which was attached to the stone beeped making the stone to shake vigorously. The woman slumped from her sitting position and as a result of this, her body was tilted against the edge of the building, about to fall.

Willow looked towards where the woman lay. She pinned the woman down quickly. “Oh, not yet, I first have to explain how you’re going to die, so, wake up,” she said as she flicked her fingers directly into the woman’s right ear, causing a powerful force to blast through it and make it bleed.

The woman woke up with a startle and started weeping as she saw Willow leaning over her and smiling creepily. “Please madam, e jo o, please, I’m sorry, please, I will not do it again,” she begged as she bemoaned her fate

“Yaaaaay! You’re awake now, I was just about to tell you how you were going to die,” Willow said, ignoring the woman’s pleas for mercy, as the creepy smile which was on her face weaved into an innocent smile.

The woman whimpered loudly as she began to mumble, stammering and mixing up her words because she was too scared.

“So, see that black pin over there?” Willow said as she pointed down.

The woman sniffed and tried to look.

“No, no, no, no, don’t bother, it’s too tiny and you won’t be able to see it. I can because I have enhanced vision, thanks to my tech suit,” Willow said as she chuckled.

“Well, that is a little sophisticated device that’s going to pull you forcefully to it, you know, using gravity and all, AND because you don’t have a tech suit like mine which keeps my body protected from extreme gravity force pulling, you’re gonna be dead even before you hit the floor, isn’t that nice?” she said gleefully as she raised her hands to the sky and wiggled her legs gleefully.

The woman cried out loud as she got on her knees and started begging Willow for forgiveness.

“You know, I don’t know how it’s going to look like, so I’m happy that thanks to your sacrifice, God bless your soul, I will know the dangers of extreme gravitational pull, kinda like a science experiment, hmm, yes, that’s what we’ll call your death, a SCIENCE EXPERIMENT!” Willow said as she did a little dance and clapped her hands happily.

The woman’s eyes opened wide as she screamed and tried to crawl away from the edge of the building. It had just dawned on her that Willow was very crazy and didn’t have one drop of mercy in her.

Willow shook her head and snapped her fingers. “Almighty Pull,” she said.

With immediate effect, the black pin that Willow had earlier put on the woman beeped and the woman was pulled forcefully to the ground.

She screamed all the way down until her brain, heart and internal organs were ripped out of her body by the speed and force of the gravitational pull which had been maximized, causing her to die a painful death.

Willow looked down at the bloody mess beneath her with eyes wide open. “Hmm, so that’s how it would look like, yikes! Oh well, that’s minus one evil person in Lagos,” she said as she laughed maniacally.

Moonbeam
Episode 23

Dr. Anita smiled as she pushed the chair she was sitting on closer to where Spencer was seated. Spencer had told her to come closer to him because he wanted to talk with her.

“So, what’s it you wanted to talk with me about?” she said as she leaned closer to him.

Spencer scratched his head. “Mile 12 market, the matter that occurred between you and Dr. Paul…” he started but was interrupted by Dr. Anita.

“Oh, don’t mind Paul, he was just acting like a paranoid child, just imagine, and his family member wasn’t there in the end,” she said as she laughed it off.

Spencer gave off an awkward smile.”Erm, that’s not what I was talking about Annie, I’m talking about how you pinned him to the ground forcefully, I mean, he really should have been able to break out of your hold,” he said as he shrugged his shoulders.

Dr. Anita’s smile faded as she relaxed back on her seat. “That’s because I’m not weak. I didn’t just start out as a psychotherapist okay, I was in the Nigerian army, I did all sorts of rigorous trainings and stuffs like that,” she said in defense.

Spencer looked at her dumbfounded. “You were in the army?” he asked her.

She nodded. “Back when I was eighteen, I enlisted in the army after my sister died,” she said.

“You had a sister?” Spencer asked in confusion. He had just begun to realize that he didn’t know anything about the life and childhood of his girlfriend. He adjusted himself on his seat.

“Yes, but now she’s dead. She was r***d and brutally murdered. She was only sixteen,” Dr. Anita said. She could feel the rage she had once had slowly building up in her again.

Spencer sighed. “I’m sorry to hear that, Annie,” he said after a long pause.

Dr. Anita gave a short laugh that broke into tears. “Oh well, sorry won’t bring her back now, will it?” she said as she quickly wiped her eyes with the hem of her clothe and looked at Spencer dead in the eye. A creepy smile had etched on her face.

Spencer shuddered at the sight of that. “Uhm, okay, so, you joined the army because someone killed your sister right? And you wanted to get back at him, right?” he asked.

“Well, initially yes, but I later learnt that violence doesn’t solve anything, and besides, the man still died in the end, so, no one to pass my revenge on, that’s why I had to give it up and leave the army,” Dr. Anita said as she stood up and stretched her arms and legs before sitting down back again.

Spencer waited until she was seated before asking her another question. “Please don’t be annoyed Annie, I might seem like I’m asking too many questions, but, how did the man die?” he asked.

Dr. Anita sat back and cross-legged. “Meh, who knows? Maybe natural causes?” she said as she shrugged her shoulders.

Spencer tilted his head up as he raised his eyebrows suspiciously at her. “Natural causes?” he asked.

Dr. Anita stood up and walked towards the door. She then locked it behind her and then moved towards where the light switch was.

Spencer sat uneasily as he adjusted himself.

“You really wanted to know what happened, right?” She said as she laughed hysterically and switched the lights off.

The room became dark. It was night and the only light that could be seen was the light from Dr. Anita’s office opposite his which seeped in from beneath the door.

Spencer peered his eyes as he tried to find out Dr. Anita’s movements. “Annie, what are you doing?” he asked in fear. He didn’t know why he was afraid.

Dr. Anita didn’t answer him.

“Annie,” Spencer called out again but still no reply.

He was about to stand up when he felt a hand grab his shoulders tightly.

“AHHHHHH!!!!” he yelped out loudly as he turned to look back.

Behind him was Dr. Anita’s head, beamed with her phone light making it seem like it was floating in the air.

“AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!,” he yelled out loudly again as he jumped away from his seat fearfully, forgetting there was a table in front of his chair and bumping his wrist against it.

He heard her burst out into laughter.

Spencer angrily went to turn the lights back on.

Dr. Anita was on the floor, rolling with laughter.

Spencer shook his head as went to help her up.

“You get frightened easily,” she said as she burst out laughing again.

Spencer face palmed himself. “Was there a need for all that? Annie?” he asked.

Dr. Anita nodded. “Yes, yes, after making me remember and tell a sad story like that, it was important for me to have a funny moment in order to have that serotonin and endorphin boost my body needs to stay happy, bad things happen when I get sad you know,” she said as she did a puppy dog face.

Spencer just laughed as he pulled her into a hug. She was right. He was impressed with her intellectual prowess.

An hour later, Spencer was tucked in bed in the men’s quarters, rethinking of what had happened during the day. He turned towards where Dr. Paul’s bed was. Dr. Paul wasn’t there. Spencer shook his head. He thought Dr. Paul was working or busy with something.

Moonbeam
Episode 22

Spencer sat down in his office, his mind conflicted with numerous thoughts. He was doing this when he fell asleep. He was also tired from the days’ activities.

Thirty minutes later, he was woken by the sound of his door closing. He raised his head up. It was Dr. Anita.

“Hey hun,” she said as she walked towards where he was, sat on his lap and embraced him.

He patted her hair. ”Hey babe, where have you been? Did you hear of what happened to Kayode and Senator Adeleyi? He asked.

She broke from his embrace and nodded. “I was so surprised myself. I was still at that Mile 12 market, with Martha, cleaning and taking care of the area when a policeman brought the news to us,” she said.

Spencer nodded.

“It was all my fault, maybe I should have listened to Paul’s idea, maybe I shouldn’t have given Kayode what he wanted and just rescued the cell maintenance crew by force,” she said as she looked down, feeling sad about the whole situation on ground.

“Hey, hey, look at me,” Spencer said as he lifted her chin up so he could look into her eyes. “It’s not your fault okay, you wouldn’t have known how it would have turned put, so don’t start blaming yourself,” he said.

She sniffed.

Spencer pulled her in and kissed her tenderly on the lips which caused her to shiver.

“Alright love,” she said as their lips separated. She stood up and walked to the door, closing it behind her. She then walked to where Spencer was and sat on his lap.

Spencer looked at her questioningly.

She just smiled and pulled his hands over her b***s. “I was thinking, maybe we could, you know…” she started but was cut short by Spencer.

“No,” he said hotly. “It’s not that I don’t find you attractive enough, I too want it, but no Annie, we mustn’t do that until after we marry,” he said and quickly removed his hands from her b***s. It was so soft and he could feel that her ni***es were perky from under her clothe but he made sure to resist the temptation. He didn’t want to go against God’s Laws concerning s*x before marriage.

Dr. Anita pouted and hugged Spencer tight. She understood why he didn’t want to do anything deep with her before their marriage. “Okay, I’ll wait….like I’ve always done,” she said softly.

Spencer hugged her tightly too. “Thank you Annie,” he said as he heaved a sigh of relief. He thought she would get annoyed, but she didn’t. That showed she was improving in her emotional stability.

“But…” she started in a cold sharp tone that caused Spencer’s hair to stand on his back. The atmosphere was chilling. “I mustn’t catch you doing it with any other girl, and you must end up with me, if I can’t have you, no one will,” she said as she broke their embrace and looked him straight in the eye.

Spencer looked at her. She had a dead expression on. Although he knew that she was threatening him, he laughed wholeheartedly and kissed her lips again, but this time, he kissed her deeply.

Immediately, her expression changed as she melted into a soft lovable woman yearning for more of him. He pulled away and looked her straight in the eye. “I’m all yours and only yours, you know that,” he said and smiled.

Dr. Anita’s heart started pounding as her face beamed up with smiles, a blush forming on her cheeks. She leaned in and tried to kiss him again but he placed his finger on her lip, stopping her.

Spencer knew if they continued kissing for a long while, he wouldn’t be able to resist wanting her at that moment, so he had to prevent that.

“AAAAHH,” Dr. Anita shouted as she stood up from him and started pacing around the room. She stopped and looked at him, a smile on her face. “You did that purposely right? You knew I was dead serious and you did that to throw me off guard, right?” she asked as she laughed and pointed at him.

Spencer folded his arms and looked at her smugly. “Mmhmm, I did,” he said with much pride.

Dr. Anita burst out laughing as she threw an eraser at his forehead. “Yooouuuuuu wiiiiillll paaayyyyyy,” she said playfully as she rushed to him and started punching him softly.

Spencer winced in pain as the eraser hit him. He couldn’t react as she stood there playfully punching him. He was just laughing. “Okay, okay, I have been defeated, I submit,” he said amidst laughter as he raised his hands up.

Dr. Anita smiled as she bent down, leaning close to him with dreamy eyes. “Since I won, can I have one kiss? Pleeeeassse? Just one teensy weensy kiss?” she asked him.

“He smiled as he raise an eyebrow. “Only a kiss okay, nothing more,” he said.

She nodded frantically and not waiting for him, pulled him close and kissed him affectionately. She then went to the second seat in his office and sat on it.

Spencer smiled. He loved this woman. So much.

The Boss Office. Magmus General Ward.

The Boss looked at the person who was seated in front of him in his elegant office. It was Dr. Paul and he had just come to report to him of how Dr. Anita treated him, and how he thinks she is not fit to lead their team.

“I’m sorry, but Anita isn’t the head of your team because she is my daughter, but because of her intelligence and skills, about the way she handled you, I will warn her,” he said as he folded his hands.

“Just a warning? I was thinking of maybe a suspension or something, but just a warning?” Dr. Paul said angrily as he stood up. He couldn’t take more of this.

“Don’t wag your mouth at me Paul, you do not know more than I do,” the Boss said. He wouldn’t accept insubordination from anybody.

Dr. Paul sighed and brought out a paper from his pocket. “Then, I’m afraid that I have to do this,” he said as he dropped the resignation letter on the Boss’ table.

The Boss looked at the letter and then back at Dr. Paul without saying a word.

Angry at this, Dr. Paul stormed out of his office.

Moonbeam
Episode 21

The policemen readied their weapons as they all took their positions behind the cars which served as their frontline. Dr. Anita and the Chief had both come up with a plan which they had already begun to execute.

Dr. Anita, Dr. Martha, the Drozoids and the Chief had gotten into an iron digger truck which they were going to use to quickly bulldoze their way through the area in between them and Kayode and launch a surprise attack.

Spencer and Dr. Paul stayed behind in the same stall the Chief of police was staying when they had initially arrived. Everyone had radio earpieces on in order to ensure smooth communication, although some of them were not working properly as a result of bad maintenance, those were given to the policemen with lesser ranks.

Spencer’s duty was to get a portable speaker, using a drone to the building where Kayode was. The drone had hidden cameras on it so Kayode and his goons would think it was only a speaker carrying drone. They would use that as surveillance. He had a small pocket phone that would display those images.

Dr. Paul frowned as he watched Spencer set up the drone. He had a megaphone in hand, and his own duty was to try and engage Kayode in a conversation in order to distract him from suspecting the others. He wasn’t happy because he felt Dr. Anita had purposely told him to stay behind and do that because she didn’t want him in on the action.

“New guy,” he started as he turned to Spencer.

Spencer who was in a crouched position as he tuned the drone looked up at him.

“I’m beginning to dislike Dr. Anita, I don’t think she is in the right position to lead,” he said.

Spencer shook his head and continued setting up the drone. “I’d watch what I say if I were you,” he said. He wouldn’t stand anyone talking bad about his girlfriend.

“I know you two might be going out and all, but, that woman’s bad news, I mean, I don’t think she’s who she claims to be,” Dr. Paul continued, he was still in shock of how Dr. Anita had pinned him to the ground and rendered him powerless.

Spencer remained silent, choosing to ignore Dr. Paul, but the words he was saying registered in his mind as a new feeling of suspicion began to pave way into his thoughts. He straightened himself up and used the remote control to make the drone fly.

“How could she pin me to the ground forcefully? I mean, I should have been able to break free from her grip? Something is definitely up,” Dr. Paul said as he folded his hands, the megaphone tucked beneath his arm.

“Please, let’s just focus on the situation on ground and not be….. unprofessional,” Spencer said as he started controlling the drone to the building where Kayode was, although his mind was asking that same question.

Dr. Paul frowned. “Fine then! I will find out myself,” he said angrily as he watched the drone fly past him. Dr. Anita had given specific instructions that he was supposed to start talking immediately the drone was set up and headed for the building, so Kayode would be aware of the presence of the Drone and so he would not become agitated and do something hurtful to his hostages.

“Mr. Kayode, it’s me, Dr. Paul, I just want to talk with you, that’s all, don’t do anything yet, let’s negotiate,” Dr. Paul started as the drone got closer to the building.

A window opened and someone peered out. It wasn’t Kayode, but one of his underlings.

“Oga Kayode says you better not try any secret operation or anything stupid if not he will kill one of these people here,” the man shouted. The drone was nearby already, so they could hear what he was saying.

Dr. Paul nodded. “Yes, I know that, we are not doing anything stupid, we just want to talk,” he said.

The man looked inside as if talking to someone before peering out again. “Oga Kayode said he has a list of things he want, and for every one thing you fulfil, he will release one person,” the man said.

Spencer and Dr. Paul both looked at each other.

“Okay, but how many people do you have there?” he asked.

“Twelve people,” the man said.

Dr. Paul shook his head sadly. This was what he was trying to avoid.

“He’s bluffing, heat signatures are picking up only eight people, four hostiles and four hostages,” Dr. Anita’s voice came in through the radio earpieces.

Spencer nodded and tried to control the drone into the building in order to spy on them.

Another window opened quickly and Kayode peered out. “That drone doesn’t come any closer or else I will kill them all,” he shouted. His face was brutally bruised and he had only one eye left, as his other eye had been gouged out and he had tiny deep holes all over his head.

Spencer, Dr. Paul and the policemen with them all gasped at this.

“You can go back now Dele,” Kayode said to the other man who had been speaking for him before. Dele closed the window in his side.

“Kayode, what happened to you?” Dr. Paul asked.

Kayode frowned angrily, “You know what, I will release all these people here, I don’t mind, I didn’t want to do this, the only thing I want is a face to face conversation with Senator Adeleyi Benson, my father who dumped me in that sick asylum, arrange for that, or I kill all the people here,” he shouted.

Spencer flinched. What a sad story that was.

“We are coming back, I think we should give him what he wants,” Dr. Anita said as she ordered the man driving the digger truck to turn back. Although they were directly under the building, the man didn’t hesitate to turn back.

Dr. Paul raised the megaphone to his mouth. “Alright Kayode, we are arranging for that this very minute, a helicopter will be called for you now, but you have to give your word to turn yourself back in after talking with your father,” he said.

Kayode nodded. “Sure, I promise,” he said and closed the windows.

In no time, an helicopter, with two policemen in it, landed in front of the building and Kayode went in, he ordered his three underlings to hand over the hostages to the policemen.

Spencer and Dr. Paul, who was now relieved that his family was not among, took the cell maintenance crew back to Ikorodu while Dr. Anita and Dr. Martha stayed behind with the other policemen to tend to the market place which was in great disarray.

An hour later, As Dr. Paul, Spencer and the maintenance crew walked into the hospital, a news flash popped up on the television which was in the reception. Senator Adeleyi Benson and his son, Kayode were dead. The policemen with them were brutally injured on the head which would result I them having a permanent memory loss. And the culprit was none other than Willow.

Specer and Dr. Paul froze. What in the world had just happened?!
