SOKOTO STATE AGENCY FOR THE CONTROL OF AIDS, TUBERCULOSIS AND LEPROSY (SOSACAT).

The Sokoto State Agency for the Control of AIDS, Tuberculosis and Leprosy (SOSACAT) participated in a 3-day State-level Stepdown Training on the Revised National HIV Health Sector Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Tools, organized by NASCP in collaboration with SASCP, from 4th–6th May 2026 at Pinnacle Hotel, Sokoto.

The training focused on strengthening participants’ capacity on updated HIV M&E tools, improving data quality, and enhancing effective reporting.

Key sessions included ART case management, data collection, validation, and reporting procedures.

Participants at the training included the DD HIV, Ahmad Jazuli; Aminu Bello (CMO); representatives from 23 LGAs including LACA and LGA M&E Officers, as well as other relevant partners.

The Executive Secretary of SOSACAT, Mal. Mukhtar Isah Iliyasu, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to strengthening the HIV response through improved data systems and continuous capacity building. The SASCP Coordinator, Wadata Hali, coordinated the training at the state level.

EXECUTIVE SECRETARY LEADS SOSACAT STAFF ON SUNDAY COURTESY VISIT TO DISTRICT HEAD OF GAGI.

In a demonstration of commitment to public health service, the Executive Secretary of SOSACAT, Malam Mukhtar Isah Iliyasu, FIMC, led staff of the Agency on a courtesy visit to the District Head of Gagi, Alhaji Sani Umar Jabbi, at his palace.

Despite it being a Sunday, the Executive Secretary continues to show exceptional dedication, leaving no room for rest in the ongoing fight against HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Leprosy in Sokoto State.

The visit was aimed at strengthening community engagement and fostering collaboration with traditional institutions, recognizing their vital role in mobilizing grassroots support for health interventions.

The District Head appreciated the visit and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting SOSACAT’s efforts in improving the health and well-being of the people.

This action further reflects SOSACAT’s resolve to ensure inclusive stakeholder participation in achieving a healthier Sokoto State.

The Executive Secretary of SOSACAT, Mal. Mukhtar Isah Iliyasu, FIMC, has led a delegation of SOSACAT staff on a condolence visit to the Special Adviser to the Governor on SOSACAT, Alhaji Sada Ibrahim Durbawa, following the passing of his beloved elder sister, Malama Li’ima Abubakar Durbawa.

The condolence visit took place on Sunday, 26th April, 2026, in Durbawa.

SOSACAT extended its heartfelt condolences to Alhaji Sada Ibrahim Durbawa and his family during this difficult time, and prayed that Almighty Allah (SWT) forgives her shortcomings, grants her Aljannatul Firdaus, and gives the family the strength to bear the loss.

Gobirawa Community Development Association Honours SOSACAT Executive Secretary.

The Gobirawa Community Development Association has honoured the Executive Secretary of SOSACAT, Mal. Mukhtar Isah Iliyasu, with a Certificate of Honour in recognition of his outstanding contributions to community development.

The award was presented during a special ceremony organized by the association to celebrate his impactful leadership, dedication to public service, and continuous support toward the growth and development of the Gobirawa community.

Speaking at the event, members of the association commended his unwavering commitment and described him as a role model whose contributions have positively transformed many lives.

Mal. Mukhtar Isah Iliyasu, is a distinguished scholar, visionary leader, and humanitarian. Born on September 15, 1979, in Sokoto State, he has built a career rooted in service, leadership, and community impact. Mukhtar Isah Iliayasu is an eminent scholar, a seasoned entrepreneur, visionary leader, accomplished administrator, and compassionate humanitarian whose life journey reflects an extraordinary blend of intellect, discipline, and service to humanity.

He is the founder of the renowned life-saving GREENVIEW BULDONATION and MALAM MUKHTAR ISAH ILIYASU BUILD-NATION FOUNDATIONS. Born on the 15th of September, 1979, in Sokoto State, he has risen through dedication, resilience, and a relentless pursuit of excellence to become a respected figure in academia, public service, and private enterprise. His career stands as a testament to purposeful leadership and a lifelong commitment to national development and community advancement.

His academic trajectory is both distinguished and far-reaching, marked by continuous intellectual growth and global exposure. He holds a Ph.D in Atmospheric Physics from the University of Benin, a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from MSBM London, United Kingdom (2024), and a Postgraduate Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership from the same institution (2023), reflecting his strong grounding in modern management practices, he obtained a Masters Degree in Physics (specializes in Raditation and Environmental Protection from the University of Surrey, United Kingdom in 2016, he also obtained a Postgraduate Certificate in Radiation and Environmental Protection from the same University in 2017 demonstrating his expertise in environmental safety and sustainability. He also earned a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Renewable Energy from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (2014), and a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Physics from the same university (2004). Complementing these are certifications in Computer Science and Computer Studies from the Sokoto State polytechnic in 2009 and 2010; Postgraduate Diploma in Education from ABU Zaria (2008) and Postgraduate Diploma in Industrial Physics from Bayero University, Kano in 2010 which laid the foundation for his technological competence. His educational journey underscores a deep commitment to knowledge acquisition, innovation, and professional excellence.

A Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management, Mukhtar Isah Iliayasu is an active member of several prestigious professional bodies across Nigeria and internationally. His affiliations include the Association of Energy Engineers (Canada), the Chartered Institute of Waste Management (United Kingdom), he is also a Member, International Atomic Energy Agency (AIEA), the Energy Commission of Nigeria, Member, National Strategic Plan Committee; the Nigerian Institute of Physics, and the Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (STAN) as well as Member, Sokoto State Council of Health, among others. Through these memberships, he continues to engage in professional development, policy dialogue, and global best practices, thereby strengthening his contributions to science, energy, environmental management, his immediate community and the country at large.
With over two decades of rich and diverse professional experience, Mukhtar Isah Iliayasu has distinguished himself across academia, government, and the private sector. He began his career as a lecturer at Umaru Ali Shinkafi Polytechnic, Sokoto, where his brilliance and dedication earned him progressive promotions to the rank of Principal Lecturer and later Chief Lecturer. Over the years, he has held numerous strategic leadership roles, including Programme Coordinator for IJMB and Pre-Degree Studies, Director of Renewable Energy and Planning at the Sokoto State Ministry of Energy, and Director of Project Planning in various organizations, currently, he is the Executive Secretary - Sokoto State Agency for Control of HIV/AIDs, Tuberculosis and Leprosy (SOSACAT). His leadership portfolio further extends to his roles as Director of Medical Laboratory Science at SASHT, Gwadabawa, Chief Executive Officer of Greenview Global Ventures Nigeria Limited, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Reliance Specialist Hospital, and Executive Director of Rijadow Nigeria Limited. In all these capacities, he has demonstrated exceptional administrative acumen, strategic foresight, and an unwavering commitment to institutional growth and innovation.

Mukhtar Isah Iliayasu is also a prolific scholar and researcher whose intellectual contributions have enriched knowledge in the fields of renewable energy, environmental science, and physics. He has authored and co-authored numerous academic papers and has actively participated in national and international conferences, seminars, and workshops. His presentations at reputable platforms, including energy forums and international conferences in the United Kingdom, Germany, South Africa, Kenya, Rwanda, the United Arab Emirates and so much more, have earned him recognition as a ‘thought leader’ and ‘advocate for sustainable development’. His research efforts continue to influence policy, inspire innovation, and contribute to the global discourse on energy and environmental sustainability.

Beyond his academic and professional accomplishments, Mukhtar Isah Iliayasu is deeply committed to humanitarian service and community development. Malam Mukhtar Isah Iliyasu, FIMC, yesterday led members of the Civil Society for HIV/AIDS in Nigeria (CISHAN), under the coordination of Muhammad Garba, on an advocacy visit to the Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Health Sokoto State, Dr. Faruk Umar Abubakar Wurno, at his office.

The visit was aimed at strengthening collaboration between government and civil society organizations in the fight against HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Leprosy in the state, with a strong emphasis on sustainability of interventions and programs.

Discussions during the meeting focused on improving service delivery, enhancing community engagement, and ensuring the sustainability of ongoing health interventions across Sokoto State, particularly in the face of evolving funding landscapes.

Speaking during the visit, the Executive Secretary emphasized the importance of partnership and sustainability in achieving long-term health outcomes, noting that civil society organizations play a critical role in reaching vulnerable and underserved populations while ensuring continuity of services.

Flag-Off of Safe Deliveries Initiative Holds in Sokoto

The flag-off ceremony of the Safe Deliveries Initiative (SDI), organized by the Sokoto State Ministry of Health, was successfully held at Rumbukawa Primary Health Centre, Waziri A Ward, Sokoto North Local Government Area.

The event was hosted by the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Umar Faruq Abubakar Wurno, and brought together key stakeholders in the health sector, including government officials, development partners, and healthcare providers.

Dignitaries in attendance included the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Ibrahim Haliru Dingyaɗi, mni; Special Adviser on SOCHEMA, Ahmad Rufai Abubakar; Executive Secretary SOSACAT, Mal. The Executive Secretary of SOSACAT, Mal. Mukhtar Isah Iliyasu, FIMC, today received a joint advocacy visit from NEPHWAN ATM Network at his office.
The visit was held in the presence of the Honourable Special Adviser to the Governor on SOSACAT, Hon. Sada Ibrahim Durbawa, and staff of SOSACAT. The visiting team was led by Comrade Hussaini, the State Coordinator of NEPHWAN.

The engagement focused on strengthening collaboration and advancing efforts towards effective HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment, and support services across the state. Discussions also addressed issues of Gender-Based Violence (GBV), highlighting key challenges and the need for coordinated response mechanisms.

SOSACAT Participates in STBLCP Quarterly Review Meeting in Sokoto State.

The Sokoto State Agency for the Control of AIDS, Tuberculosis and Leprosy (SOSACAT) participated in a Quarterly Review Meeting organized by the State Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Programme (STBLCP) aimed at strengthening TB control efforts across the state.

The meeting brought together key stakeholders including frontline healthcare workers, program managers, laboratory experts, implementing partners, as well as Local Government Tuberculosis and Leprosy Supervisors (LGTBLS) from the 23 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state to review ongoing activities, assess progress, and identify strategies for improving service delivery.

Speaking during the engagement, the Special Adviser to the Governor on SOSACAT, Hon. Sada Ibrahim Durbawa, reaffirmed the commitment of the Sokoto State Government to supporting interventions that will enhance the fight against tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS in the state.

Also, the Executive Secretary of SOSACAT, Mal. Mukhtar Isah Iliyasu, FIMC, emphasized the importance of collaboration, data-driven decision-making, and continuous capacity building for healthcare workers to achieve better outcomes.

The review meeting was coordinated by Dr. Sanusi Ridwan, Programme Manager (PM, STBLCP), with technical support from Musa Ladan (Monitoring & Evaluation, STBLCP), alongside other stakeholders and partners.

Key sessions at the meeting included updates on laboratory services, drug-resistant tuberculosis (DRTB), logistics management, and community-based interventions, as well as presentations from program experts and partners.

SOSACAT commended the State Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Programme and all partners for their sustained efforts in combating tuberculosis and improving public health in Sokoto State.
