SOIRS Participates in DRC Workshop on Strengthening Financial Inclusion in Sokoto Communities

The Sokoto State Internal Revenue Service (SOIRS) participated in a stakeholders’ workshop organized by the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) on “Strengthening Financial Inclusion through the EU SPADS Graduation Approach Model for Vulnerable Populations.”

The workshop brought together key stakeholders and partners to discuss sustainable approaches toward improving financial inclusion and supporting vulnerable households through access to financial services and livelihood opportunities.

As part of the engagement, discussions focused on the implementation of DRC support initiatives across communities in Sokoto North and Sokoto South Local Government Areas, including Tudun Wada, Mabera, Gagi, and Ramin Kura communities. The sessions explored financial inclusion models, savings and investment associations, access barriers, partnership opportunities, and strategies for strengthening community engagement.

SOIRS’ participation reflects its commitment to supporting initiatives that promote economic empowerment, social development, and inclusive growth across Sokoto State. Collaboration among institutions remains essential in creating sustainable systems that improve the well-being and financial resilience of vulnerable populations.

SOIRS appreciates the Danish Refugee Council for the invitation and for creating a platform that fosters partnership and impactful community development.

CONTINUED REVIEW OF THE NEW TAX LAW IMPLEMENTATION FRAMEWORK

The committee established by Sokoto State Internal Revenue Service (SOIRS) for the review of the new tax laws has continued its assignment, which commenced approximately six months ago. The exercise remains focused on reviewing the provisions of the new tax law and examining practical strategies for its effective implementation.

Proceedings continued with insightful facilitation by the resource person, Dr. Abdulrauf Aliyu, whose expertise and wealth of experience continue to provide valuable guidance throughout the review sessions.

The ongoing exercise reflects SOIRS’ commitment to ensuring a robust, practical, and effective tax framework capable of strengthening tax administration and supporting sustainable revenue growth.

THE SOKOTO STATE INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE ANNOUNCES EXTENSION OF DEADLINE FOR FILING OF INDIVIDUAL TAX RETURNS FOR THE 2026 YEAR OF ASSESSMENT

The Sokoto State Internal Revenue Service (SOIRS) wishes to inform the general public that it has approved a one-month extension for the deadline for the electronic filing of individual income tax returns for the 2026 year of assessment.

The initial deadline of Tuesday, 31 March 2026 has now been extended to Thursday, 30 April 2026. This extension applies to returns submitted electronically through the official tax portal and is aimed at giving taxpayers additional time to conveniently complete and submit their returns.

All taxable individuals—including employees under the Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE) scheme, self-employed persons, freelancers, professionals, and business owners—are kindly reminded to file accurate returns of their total income from all sources for the period 1 January to 31 December 2025.

The Service appreciates the continued cooperation and understanding of taxpayers and tax practitioners. This extension reflects its commitment to supporting taxpayers and encouraging voluntary compliance in a convenient and efficient manner.
