INEC Chairman Calls for Dedication and Integrity in the Discharge of Legal Duties Ahead of 2027 General Election
The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan (SAN), has called for professionalism, dedication and integrity in the discharge of electoral legal duties ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Prof. Amupitan made the call on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, during a parley with Legal Officers of the Commission who are in Port Harcourt to attend the 66th Annual Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
The Chairman emphasized the need for INEC Legal Officers to demonstrate diligence, thoroughness and professionalism in handling election-related legal matters, noting that their work is critical to safeguarding the credibility and institutional reputation of the Commission.
He urged the officers to remain committed to the highest standards of integrity and ensure that all legal matters arising from the electoral process are handled with the requisite expertise, fairness and attention to detail.
The meeting, held at the INEC Rivers State Office, was attended by the Chairman, National Commissioner supervising North Central States, Resident Electoral Commissioners, INEC Rivers & Akwa-Ibom States, Directors of Legal & EPM, Heads of Legal Departments from various State Offices, INEC Rivers Management and other Legal Officers of the Commission.
The engagement provided an opportunity for the Commission's leadership to interact with its Legal Officers and reinforce the importance of effective legal support in the conduct of credible, transparent and peaceful elections.
