ONGOING: NDDC FLAGS OFF RECONSTRUCTION OF AJOMATA/IBADA ELUME–AMUKPE–OGHARA ROAD

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has commenced the flag-off ceremony for the reconstruction of the failed Ajomata/Ibada Elume–Amukpe–Oghara section of the Effurun–Benin Expressway in Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State.

The intervention aims to restore the critical road corridor, improve connectivity, ease the movement of people and goods, and enhance economic activities across the region.

HIGHLIGHT| NDDC MD/CEO ATTENDS NBA YENAGOA & SAGBAMA BRANCH DINNER NIGHT

The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Chief Samuel Ogbuku, PhD, was the Guest of Honour at the joint Nigerian Bar Association, Yenagoa & Sagbama Branches Dinner Night in Rivers State.

Addressing members of the branches, Chief Ogbuku charged them to continue working in unity of purpose to strengthen the branches and position them among the leading branches of the Nigerian Bar Association. He also used the opportunity to address the issue of the Benin-Sapele road, stating that the NDDC, as an interventionist agency, will flag off the rehabilitation of the failed portion of that road on Friday, August 28, 2026.

The evening also featured an entertaining performance by Alfred J King and His Because of Love Crew, adding colour and excitement to the occasion.

Governor Edo State, Works Minister and NDDC MD Inspect Benin-Sapele/Agbor-Warri Roads

The Governor of Edo State, Sen. Monday Okpebholo, Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, alongside the Senate and House of Representatives Committees on Works and the Managing Director/CEO of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Chief Samuel Ogbuku, PhD, embarked on a joint inspection of failed portions of the Benin-Sapele and Benin-Agbor/Warri roads.

Speaking during the inspection, the Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo highlighted the hardship faced by motorists and commuters, calling for urgent intervention on the affected sections.

Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, stressed the Federal Government’s commitment to addressing the deteriorating sections and finding immediate but sustainable solutions to the challenges along this critical corridor.

Chief Samuel Ogbuku disclosed that the NDDC had received complaints about the sufferings of commuters along the Benin-Sapele corridor and immediately commenced with plans to intervene. He added that the Commission had scoped 15.4 kilometres between Benin, Ologbo Junction and Sapele, describing it as a strategic road corridor in the region and noting that this stretch had become unmotorable, causing gridlock, hardship and crippling the local economy.

The joint inspection underscores the commitment by the Federal Government, Edo State Government and NDDC to find lasting solutions to the infrastructural challenges in the Niger Delta.

PHOTOSPEAK | NDDC ADVOCATES ECONOMIC DIVERSIFICATION AT NBA CONFERENCE

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has reaffirmed the need to diversify the Niger Delta economy beyond oil by increasing investments in agriculture, digital innovation, and other sustainable sectors.

Speaking on Resource Control at the Nigerian Bar Association’s 66th Annual General Conference in Port Harcourt, the Managing Director/CEO of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Chief Samuel Ogbuku, PhD, emphasised the importance of economic diversification, accurate data and strategic investment in securing the region’s future.

The Commission also highlighted ongoing reforms under its transaction-to-transformation agenda, including digitisation, skills development, solar-powered interventions, stronger corporate governance and the adoption of ESG principles.

At the conference, Chairman of the Governing Board of the NDDC, Mr Chiedu Ebie, and the Managing Director/CEO were honoured with awards in recognition of the Commission’s contributions to the development of the Niger Delta.

NDDC Advances Digital Capacity through Practical AI Training

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has strengthened youth capacity in digital innovation through a two-day practical training on Artificial Intelligence, Digital Content Creation and Innovation, held at the LA Kings Dome, Port Harcourt.

The event brought together young participants from across the Niger Delta region and expert facilitators to provide practical training, hands-on exposure and build capacity in emerging digital technologies, creative tools and entrepreneurial opportunities.

Speaking at the event, the Executive Director, Corporate Services, Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde, expressed appreciation to the Managing Director/CEO, Chief Samuel Ogbuku PhD, and the NDDC Governing Board for approving the training. He emphasised the importance the Commission places on ensuring that youths acquire practical, relevant and future-ready digital skills, noting that the event provided a valuable platform for participants to engage directly with industry experts and gain the skills needed to develop their creative and business ventures.

The session featured practical and live demonstrations led by facilitators, Mrs. Stephanie Oghenene and Mr. Kalada Briggs, who taught participants the practicals on how to create faceless YouTube videos, write and produce e-books, and generate original music using AI tools.

The initiative highlights the Commission’s ongoing commitment to equipping young people across the Niger Delta with practical skills, fostering innovation and creating sustainable opportunities that will enable them thrive in the emerging digital economy.
