IMO STATE POLICE COMMAND HAS ARRESTED ONE OF THE SUSPECTS ALLEGED TO HAVE PARTICIPATED IN THE ATTACK ON ORJI POLICE STATION

RECOVERED GRAMS OF SUBSTANCE SUSPECTED TO BE CO***NE

On 2nd June, 2021 at about 0900 hours, the Command's Quick Response Team in a joint operation with Ikeduru Police Division, arrested one Chukwumakpa Henry ‘m' 32 years old. The suspect is a native of Iho in Ikeduru Local Government Area but resident at Orji area, Owerri. He was arrested in his hideout at Ikeduru Local Government Area following an intelligence driven operation.

2. The suspect is alleged to have participated in the attack on Orji Police Station on 25th May, 2021 and other heinous crimes. He confessed to the commission of the offence and other violent crimes in recent past. He stated that, he is a member of the criminal gang masquerading as unknown gun men.

3. Some grams of substance suspected to be co***ne were recovered from him. He confessed dealings in illicit and hard drugs as a means of subsistence. Investigation is ongoing. Efforts are being intensified to arrest other gang members and recover their fi****ms.

4. The Commissioner of Police Imo State, CP Abutu Yaro, fdc has commended the efforts of the teams in living up to the constitutional responsibility of the Police in securing the lives and property of the citizens. This is also in line with the mission of the Commissioner of Police in ensuring that Imo State remains one of the safer state in Nigeria and Africa. The suspect will be charged to Court as soon as investigation is concluded.

POLICE IN IMO HAVE REPELLED ATTEMPTS BY HOODLUMS TO ATTACK TWO POLICE STATIONS IN THE STATE

On 31st May, 2021 at about 1530 hours, some hoodlums in their number launched an attack on Police Division Umundugba, Isu Local Government Area but was repelled by the Policemen on duty. They stormed the station in three Sienna buses, one Avalon saloon car and about eight motorcycles. The hoodlums were engaged in a gun battle. During the duel, the hoodlums threw a couple of petrol bomb at the station which fell at the exhibit room. The attackers were eventually suppressed and they made a retreat, having suffered huge defeat and a number of casualties on their side. The Police with the help of some members of the community were able to put off the fire.

A similar attempt was made by some hoodlums to attack Omuma Police Division but was equally repelled by the gallant Policemen on duty. No life was lost in the two attacks and there were no casually on the part of the Police. The two Police Stations were not burnt.

There is however, no security breach or infraction recorded throughout the day in the entire State. This could be attributed to the massive deployment of security personnel across the state by the Police and other supporting security agencies, who provided watertight security to the peace loving people of Imo State.

The Commissioner of Police Imo State, CP Abutu Yaro, fdc commended the efforts of the men for repelling the attacks on the two Police Stations and keeping the state safe. Meanwhile, patrols and surveillance activities are ongoing. Members of the Public are enjoined to go about their lawful duties without fear.

POLICE IN IMO HAVE NEUTRALISED THE KILLERS OF AHMED GULAK

On 30th May, 2021 following a distress received by the Command on the gruesome murder of Ahmed Gulak, Police Special Forces made up of Intelligence Response Team (IRT), Police Mobile Force (PMF) and Tactical Units from the command were deployed to the scene at Obiangwu Junction at Ngorokpala LGA of Imo state. The teams were given a clear instruction to identify and apprehend the perpetrators of the act with a view of bringing them to justice.

2. Eye witnesses account, especially the account given by the Driver of the vehicle that was conveying Ahmed Gulak to the Airport before the attack, gave a vivid description of the assailants and the vehicles they used in carrying out the attack. The assailants were said to have used a Toyota Camry 2005 model with silver color; Toyota Sienna 1998 Model with golden color; Toyota Hilux with white color; and a Lexus RX 330 with golden Color. (Registration numbers are withheld for security reasons).

3. Having established the identity of the assailants and the description of the vehicles used in carrying out the attack, the teams further got details of the direction the hoodlums have taken. With further leads, the team was able to establish the location of suspects. The suspects were rounded up at Afor Enyiogugu junction in Aboh-Mbaise Local Government Area. The hoodlums where met distributing onions to locals from a trailer they confiscated. The trailer was loaded with Onions from the Northern region of Nigeria.

4. On sighting the Police, the hoodlums providing security coverage to those sharing the onions opened fire on the Police teams. The Gallant and battle ready Police Officers swiftly returned the fire. The six hoodlums who carried out the killings and four other members of their gang were fatally injured. Three out of the four vehicles used in attacking Gulak were recovered.

5. Three AK 47 Rifles, one Pistol, five AK 47 magazines with ninety two rounds of live ammunition and criminal charms were recovered. The assailants were identified as members of the proscribed IPOB and ESN. The driver who drove late Ahmed Gulak and a co- victim who survived have all identified the dead body of the IPOB/ESN members positively as their attackers and also identified the three vehicles recovered as those used by the attackers. During the encounter, two of the police armored personnel carriers (APC) were riddled with bullets but survived the gun battle.

6. The Commissioner of Police Imo State, CP Abutu Yaro, fdc commended the gallant effort of the team and admonished them to continue to protect the public space.

MURDER OF AHMED GULAK BY ARMED BANDITS.

On the 30/5/2021, at about 07:20hrs, armed bandits intercepted and attacked a Toyota Camry cab carrying Ahmed Gulak and two others who were on their way to Sam Mbakwe Airport to catch a flight.
Ahmed Gulak left his room at Protea Hotel without informing the Police nor sister agencies in view of the fragile security situation in the South East and Imo in particular. He left without any security escorts and while the cab driver took irregular route to the airport, six armed bandits who rode in a Toyota Sienna intercepted, identified and shot at Ahmed Gulak at around Umueze Obiangwu in Ngor-Okpala Local Government Area close to the Airport.
The Commissioner of Police Imo CP Abutu Yaro, fdc has directed a discreet investigation into the matter as Tactical and Special forces have been deployed to cordone the area and arrest perpetrators.

IMO POLICE COMMAND HAVE LAUNCHED A MAN HUNT FOR HOODLUMS WHO DAMAGED THE BUILDING OF HIGH COURT ATTAH

*CP ORDERS A THOROUGH INVESTIGATION INTO THE INCIDENT

On the 29th May, 2021 at about 0700hours, the Command received a distress call that some hoodlums mobilised in large number, stormed the premises High/Magistrate Court Attah and set it on fire. They also damaged a building that was constructed by the community intended to be used as Police Station in Attah, Njaba Local Government Area.

2. Upon the receipt of the complaint, Police Special Forces were deployed to the scene. The Commissioner of Police Imo state, CP Abutu Yaro, fdc has ordered a full investigation into the incident and directed that no stone should be left unturned until the perpetrators of such heinous crime are apprehended and made to face the full weight of the law.

The attention of Imo State Police Command has been drawn to some messages circulating on social media purported to have emanated from leaders of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOP), directing innocent and law abiding citizens of the State to sit at home on 29th, 30th and 31st May, 2021.

2. These inciting messages by disgruntled and misguided elements are targeted towards creating fear and panic on the minds of patriotic and law abiding citizens of the State. The hoodlums are looking for opportunities to loot and steal from unsuspecting members of the public.

3. The Command wishes to inform the good people of Imo State that adequate security arrangements are put in place to guarantee their safety. The Police in collaboration with other security agencies in the state have massively deployed its resources and Special Forces to provide watertight security across the State.

4. Members of the public are advised to go about their lawful businesses without fear. Do not succumb to cheap blackmail and threats from criminal elements who cannot defeat the collective will of the people.

5. Parents and guardians are strongly advised to monitor the movement of their children and wards throughout this period and beyond. To those who are bent on disturbing the peace of the state, we have this simple message for you, steer clear of the public space or write your will before you step out. The Command is battle ready to deal decisively with hoodlums and criminal elements in line with the law.

IMO STATE POLICE COMMAND ARRESTED FOUR ADDITIONAL HOODLUMS WHO PARTICIPATED IN THE ATTACK OF THE COMMAND HEADQUARTERS AND CORRECTIONAL CENTRE OWERRI IN APRIL, 2021.

RECOVERED TWO FI****MS WITH CARTRIDGES

In continuation with the operations launched against criminal elements, especially hoodlums who attacked the State Police Command Headquarters, Correctional Centre Owerri, the Governor’s hometown and other locations in Imo State, operatives of lmo State Police Command arrested four additional suspects alleged to have participated in the April, 2021 attack.

The suspects are; Ojukwu Ukonu ‘m' 47 years old; Smith Amadokwa ‘m’ 45 years old; Ikechukwu Okomah ‘m’ 50 years old; and Ugbor Casmir Nnaemeka ‘m’ 49 years old, all citizens of Imo State.

The arrest was effected on 27th May, 2021 at about 1630hours in a coded operation. The strategy is focused on taking the battle to the den of the hoodlums, making it difficult for them to access the public space. This is in line with the directives of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, psc (+), NPM, fdc.

One automatic pump action gun, one single barrel gun and seventeen live cartridges were recovered from the suspects. Investigation is ongoing.

The Commissioner of Police Imo State, CP Abutu Yaro, fdc has directed that the suspects be charged to Court as soon as investigation is completed.

RE: BLOCKING OF MAJOR ROADS BY MASQUERADES DURING THE FESTIVE PERIOD

The Imo State Police Command has observed that masquerades have in the past especially during the Christmas and New Year periods indulged in the acts of obstruction of traffic flow, violence, assault and other forms of criminalities on innocent citizens and motorists along the highways.

Masquerades should be localized in the village squares or masquerade houses and not on major roads as being experienced in the past.

The Command therefore wishes to state unequivocally that it will deal decisively with any person or group of persons who may want to hide under the guise of any masquerade to disrupt or attempt to disrupt the peace and tranquility being witnessed in the state.

Parents and guardians are by this press release warned not to allow their children and wards to be used by such masquerades as any person(s) found complicit shall be arrested and prosecuted.

VEHICLE EXAMINATION/DOCUMENT ENFORCEMENT (OPERATION VEDE)

As part of measures to check and recover stolen vehicle within Imo State and environs and also to generally curb crime and criminality in the state, by checking the use of unregistered vehicles in the state, the Imo State Police Command in collaboration with Imo State Internal Revenue Service (IIRS) will be embarking on VEHICLE EXAMINATION/DOCUMENT ENFORCEMENT EXERCISE, Code named ‘OPERATION VEDE’, as such there will be Electronic Verification of Vehicle Particulars and Number Plate from the 9th of December, 2019. This is aimed at ensuring that all vehicles plying the road are duly registered and uploaded to the Central Database.

2. Consequently, motorists/vehicle owners are by this press release advised to visit any motor licensing authority office nearest to them to verify and validate their vehicle documents on or before the 8th of December, 2019, to avoid any inconveniences, please.
