Looking for a good library to use in Yaba area of Lagos, check out the YouRead Library along Hebert Macaulay way. I personally remembered using this library some two decades ago.

It is now a remodeled edifice, thanks to GTBank and Lagos State Government. There are books for young people, e-library facilities, encyclopedia etc. And it is free to access. A day spent here is never a wasted time. Picture credit: Techpoint

The Drummer Boy, (1960) by Cyprian Ekwensi is also
about a youth with courage and integrity. Its setting is southern part of Yorubaland. Its hero is Akin, a blind boy who wanders as far as the Eastern Region to escape his
schooling. But Akin himself is a sort of African St. Francis, loving peace, and singing 'about the rich and the
poor'. The narrative tells how a restaurant is burned down by the hirelings of her rejected lover and how the thugs disguised as masqueraders are whipped to death, by the Yoruba god Oro.

In the encounter with the thugs, a European teacher gets killed. There are others like Joe, a nurse, Madam Bisi, the philanthropist, eager to send their kindered to school to learn new education. The trial of the thugs, reveals that they have committed crimes under compulsion. Herbert gets involved in forgery, burglary and arson, after expelled from school and while escaping the sentence of death by
hanging meted out to his colleagues. Herbert joins Akin at the Boy's Forest-Home, and as to transform himself he receives six lashes daily for one week. In the end, he emerges as a changed being looking forward to a new dawn of promise and hope.

World-renowned neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson has led an amazing life. A life in which he has earned incredible success. But starting out from when he was young through his time as a student, his life was filled with incredible obstacles: His father leaving the family; being considered stupid by his classmates in grade school; growing up in inner-city Detroit; and having a violent temper.

But Dr. Carson didn't let his circumstances control him, and instead discovered eight principles that helped shape his future.
