"It is important for us to impart the understanding that the health of every citizen contributes to the strength and wealth of a nation. This is not a mere jamboree, but a call to action; to raise awareness across all levels of society, reaching every nook and cranny of the country, so that together, we can build a better nation."

Osun Health Board Sensitizes CAN Ifelodun On Measles-Rubella

The Osun State Primary Health Care Development Board has intensified its public sensitization campaign ahead of the forthcoming Measles-Rubella vaccination exercise across the state. In partnership with the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), IVAC, CWINS, UNICEF, and the World Health Organization (WHO), the Board engaged members of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Ifelodun Chapter, on Monday, September 22, 2025.

The meeting, held at Saviour African Church, Ikirun, Ifelodun Local Government Area, brought together CAN members, community leaders, and health stakeholders to discuss the vaccination campaign. Akande Sina Adewale, the State Health Promotion Officer, explained the aim of the campaign and urged faith leaders to assist in mobilizing parents and guardians.

"The vaccine is safe, effective, and free for all children aged 9 months to 14 years," he stated. Alhaja Kuranga Sh*ttu, UNICEF SBC Consultant for Osun State, also addressed the participants, appealing for collective effort in ensuring no child is left behind.

According to officials, the Measles-Rubella vaccination campaign will hold across Osun State from January 20th to 29th, 2026. Vaccination will be carried out at fixed posts, temporary posts, schools, churches, mosques, and other approved locations.

Odukunle O., Ifelodun Local Government Health Promotion Officer, cautioned against circulating false information about the vaccine, urging parents and community members to disregard myths and rumors.

The sensitization meeting concluded with a renewed commitment from CAN leaders to support the health initiative. Stakeholders agreed that collaboration between religious bodies and health authorities is key to the campaign's success.

The Board reaffirmed that the exercise is part of National efforts to eradicate measles and rubella and strengthen routine immunization coverage in Nigeria.

While rubella infection is often mild in adults, in pregnancy it can change a child’s life forever.

The safest way to prevent this is by getting the MMR vaccine before pregnancy, protecting both mother and baby.
