OSUN STATE UNIVERSITY ALUMNI ASSOCIATION CELEBRATES DISTINGUISHED ALUMNUS, BLDR. OPATADE JACOB ADEOLU, FNIOB, ON HIS ELEVATION TO THE RANK OF FELLOW OF THE NIGERIAN INSTITUTE OF BUILDING

Bldr. Opatade Jacob Adeolu is a distinguished alumnus of Osun State University, a seasoned builder, registered engineer, academic, researcher, construction project manager, and professional leader whose career exemplifies perseverance, intellectual growth, professional excellence, and service to society.

His professional journey is a compelling testament to the power of determination and lifelong learning. From his early training in Building Technology to his advancement into civil engineering, project management, academic scholarship, and professional leadership, he has consistently demonstrated that true distinction is achieved not merely through the acquisition of qualifications, but through the practical application of knowledge, dedication to one's profession, and commitment to making a meaningful difference.

An alumnus of Osun State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Civil Engineering in 2012, Bldr. Opatade has continued to build an impressive academic profile. His educational qualifications include a National Diploma in Building Technology/Quantity Surveying, obtained in 1996; a Higher National Diploma in Building Technology, obtained in 2000; a Master of Technology in Project Management, obtained in 2016; and a Master of Engineering in Civil Engineering, completed in 2026. His academic progression reflects a deep commitment to professional development, technical competence, and the continuous pursuit of knowledge.

With more than two decades of professional experience spanning construction, infrastructure development, public service, project supervision, and higher education, Bldr. Opatade has contributed to projects across different parts of Nigeria. His professional engagements have covered residential housing development, road construction, drainage infrastructure, flood and erosion control, public school construction, building maintenance, and construction project management.

Among the notable projects associated with his career are the construction of 5,000 housing units at Mbora, Abuja, using precast wall panels on ground beams, and the construction of six-classroom school projects across the nine federal constituencies of Ondo State, utilising polystyrene as a major construction material. He also participated in the supervision of road and drainage infrastructure, concrete roads, industrial facilities, and ecological intervention projects. These experiences have given him a broad understanding of the technical, managerial, environmental, and public-interest considerations that shape the built environment.

His contribution to public service was further demonstrated during his tenure as Senior Building Officer with the Osun State Ministry of Works and Transport, where he supervised government building projects, coordinated maintenance works, prepared site progress reports, and served on secondment as a Procurement Officer with the Osun State Property Development Corporation. His experience in both the public and private sectors has equipped him with a valuable combination of practical expertise, administrative competence, and an appreciation of the responsibilities involved in delivering safe, functional, and sustainable infrastructure.

In academia, Bldr. Opatade has distinguished himself as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Building Technology at Osun State College of Technology, Esa-Oke, where he has served since 2019. Beyond his teaching responsibilities, he has contributed to the practical training and professional development of students, helping to prepare the next generation of builders and construction professionals. His appointment as Head of Department from January 2024 to January 2026, alongside his membership of the College's Board of Studies, underscores his leadership capacity and the confidence reposed in his academic and administrative abilities.

His commitment to scholarship is reflected in his growing body of research publications and conference contributions. His work addresses critical questions relating to building collapse, construction project management, the quality of building materials, environmental sustainability, urbanisation, housing vulnerability, and infrastructure development. His research on the impact of substandard building materials on building collapse, the effects of dampness on existing buildings, construction material management, and the environmental consequences of building activities demonstrates a sustained interest in the challenges confronting Nigeria's built environment.

His more recent scholarly engagements have extended into questions of land tenure insecurity, housing vulnerability in urban slums, overcrowding, rainfall patterns, and water supply management. These areas of inquiry highlight his appreciation of the connections between construction, environmental conditions, urban development, public safety, and human welfare. Through his research and teaching, he contributes to the body of knowledge required to improve professional practice and promote a safer, more resilient, and sustainable built environment.

Bldr. Opatade's professional standing is further affirmed by his registration as a Builder with the Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria (CORBON) in 2011 and as an Engineer with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) in 2024. He is a Corporate Member of the Nigerian Institute of Building, the Nigerian Society of Engineers, the Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers, and the Nigerian Institution of Safety Engineers. He is also an Associate Member of the Nigerian Institute of Management. These professional affiliations reflect the breadth of his expertise and his commitment to professional standards, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the responsible practice of building and engineering.

His contributions to professional leadership are particularly noteworthy. Having served as Public Relations Officer of the Osun State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Building from 2012 to 2016 and General Secretary from 2020 to 2024, he currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Chapter, a position he has held since February 2024. Across these responsibilities, he has remained involved in professional activities, technical engagements, workshops, and initiatives aimed at strengthening the building profession.

He has also contributed to professional training and quality assurance through his involvement as a tutor in the Federal Government's N-Power Build vocational training programme, implemented in collaboration with CORBON. His participation in project evaluation and monitoring initiatives, as well as his membership of the joint inspection team constituted to examine eleven mega-school projects in Osun State in 2021, further demonstrates his engagement with professional accountability, building standards, and the quality of public infrastructure.

His service to the academic community extends beyond his immediate institution. He has served as Financial Secretary of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics at Osun State College of Technology since 2025, while also contributing to the governance and development of his alma mater's alumni community. As a member of the Board of Trustees of the Osun State University Alumni Association from 2022 to 2026, he demonstrated his continued connection to the University and his willingness to contribute to the advancement of the institution and its alumni network.

Beyond his professional and academic accomplishments, Bldr. Opatade's journey reflects the value of versatility, discipline, and continuous personal development. His participation in competitive chess, including his representation of Osun State College of Technology at the Nigerian Polytechnic Games Association, offers a glimpse into the breadth of his interests and his willingness to engage in pursuits that demand concentration, strategic thinking, and intellectual discipline.

His elevation to the prestigious rank of Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Building is, therefore, a fitting recognition of a career distinguished by professional experience, academic advancement, research, leadership, and service. It celebrates years of dedication to the building profession and recognises the value of the contributions he has made to construction practice, professional development, technical education, and the advancement of the built environment.

For Osun State University, his alma mater, this achievement is another occasion to celebrate an alumnus who has continued to advance through professional practice, further education, scholarship, and service. His journey reinforces the University's enduring place in the development of skilled professionals and responsible leaders whose contributions extend beyond the classroom into industry, public institutions, and the wider society.

As he assumes the responsibilities and honours associated with Fellowship, Bldr. Opatade Jacob Adeolu stands as an inspiration to students, young graduates, emerging builders, and professionals who aspire to make their mark. His career reminds us that excellence is a continuous pursuit, that knowledge gains its greatest value when translated into meaningful service, and that professional distinction is strengthened by integrity, leadership, and a willingness to contribute to the growth of others.

Bldr. Opatade Jacob Adeolu, FNIOB: a builder by profession, an engineer by training, an educator by calling, a researcher by intellectual commitment, and a leader through service.

His elevation to Fellowship is not simply a personal milestone; it is a celebration of sustained professional growth, a source of pride to his alma mater, Osun State University, and a worthy recognition of his contributions to the building profession and society.

Minister Dasola Akinbule is an International gospel music minister, worship leader and songwriter whose journey reflects the power of faith, education, talent and purposeful service.

A graduate of Osun State University (UNIOSUN), where she studied English and International Studies, Dasola has continued to build a distinctive career in Christian music and worship ministry. She subsequently obtained a Master’s degree from the University of Lagos. Her musical journey began from childhood through her involvement in her local church choir and continued through her university years.

Today, she serves as a worship leader and songwriter with New Gen Worshippers and is also associated with RCCG The Oasis, the youth arm of RCCG King’s Court Parish. New Gen Worshippers identifies her as a worship leader and songwriter and notes her ministry under the mentorship of Pastor Nathaniel Bassey and Pastor Ben Akabueze.

Her ministry has taken her to major Christian gatherings, including the Marathon Messiah’s Praise, where she has ministered alongside established gospel ministers. Her musical journey has also been strengthened through collaborations with prominent gospel artistes.

One of her notable collaborations is “Iba,” on which she featured alongside Nathaniel Bassey and Dunsin Oyekan. She is also credited on “Iba Live,” released as part of Nathaniel Bassey’s The River project. Her musical collaborations further include “Wonder (Live)” with JayMikee, as well as “YHWH (Refix)” with Aidee Ime. Her catalogue also includes collaborations on songs such as “ESE” and “ORUKO JESU.”

Beyond the songs and the stages, Dasola represents an important dimension of the UNIOSUN story: the ability of education to provide a foundation from which graduates can pursue diverse paths of excellence and impact. Her journey from studying English and International Studies at Osun State University to becoming a recognised voice in contemporary Nigerian gospel worship demonstrates the possibilities available to graduates who combine education with talent, discipline and purpose.

As UNIOSUN Alumni Association’s Alumna of the Month for October, Minister Dasola Akinbule is celebrated not only for her accomplishments in gospel music but also as an alumna whose work continues to extend beyond the university community, using her gift and platform to contribute to Christian worship and inspire others.

On behalf of the Global President, Comr. Abubakar Abdulbasit Olalekan, and the entire Global Executives of the Osun State University Alumni Association, we celebrate an international star and express our pride in her remarkable success story. UNIOSUN Living the Dreams of Its Founding Fathers, Alumni President Says as University Makes Global Rankings Debut

Osogbo, 30 September 2026

The Global President of the Osun State University Alumni Association, comrade Abdul-Basit Olokuta, has congratulated the university on its debut in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2027, describing its emergence as Nigeria’s highest-ranked state-owned university and joint eighth nationally as a proud moment for graduates of the institution.

UNIOSUN was placed in the 1,201–1,400 global band in the latest ranking, sharing the position with Babcock University and the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. It scored 25.6 in Research Environment, placing second among the ranked Nigerian universities, and 23.6 in Teaching, placing fifth nationally.

Reacting to the development, the Alumni President said that the result marks a significant milestone in the university’s development since its establishment in 2006 and demonstrates that it is living the dreams of its founding fathers.

His words: “For those of us who passed through this institution, this is a deeply personal moment. On behalf of the UNIOSUN Alumni Association, I congratulate our university community on this remarkable achievement. We are proud to see the university that helped shape our lives earn this recognition.”

“The founding fathers envisaged a university that would give young people access to quality education, produce graduates capable of competing internationally and contribute meaningfully to society. This achievement gives us good reason to say that UNIOSUN is living those dreams.”

“These recognitions give us particular satisfaction because teaching and research are central to the purpose of a university. As we celebrate the milestone, we remember the foresight of Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola and the contributions of the pioneer council, management, staff and other stakeholders who laid the foundations of this university. We also acknowledge successive administrations and university leaders who have sustained its development.”

“Behind the scores are great minds and highly regarded stakeholders: researchers pursuing socially impactful projects, lecturers preparing students for their professions, and staff whose daily work keeps the institution running. They deserve our appreciation.”

The President also acknowledged the support of the Osun State Government, the Governing Council, the Chancellor, benefactors and partners, noting that sustained institutional progress depended on their continued commitment.

He particularly singled out the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Odunayo Clement Adebooye, for his leadership and commitment to the continued development of the university, noting that he deserves special commendation for the efforts that have contributed to this significant milestone.

Abdul-Basit urged alumni at home and abroad to match their pride in the university with practical support through student mentoring, scholarships, professional placements, research partnerships and contributions to teaching and learning facilities.

“Our university’s progress places a responsibility on us as alumni. We must help open doors for those coming after us and bring our experience, professional networks and resources into the service of our alma mater.

“We celebrate this milestone with gratitude and confidence. The task ahead is to build on it, ensuring that growing international recognition is matched by an even better experience for students and work that benefits our communities. Congratulations to the entire UNIOSUN family,” he said.
