Assembly Aspirant Donates Branded Rice to Nsima Ekere Campaign
..says its a tip of the ice berg

A former aspirant for Urue Offong Oruko State Constituency, Barr Inyang Lawrence Edem has donated branded 200 bags of 25kg rice to support the Obong Nsima Ekere (ONE) governorship project in Akwa Ibom State.

Barr Inyang Edem who delivered the rice to the residence of Mrs Enobong Ufot, sister to the APC governorship flag bearer in Ikot Obong, Ikot Abasi local government area, noted that though he did not clinch the ticket to render service to his people, "it is a proper thing to show solidarity and to join hands to move the train by supporting the emergence of all APC candidates at the polls".

Flanked by his father, Mr Lawrence Edem and friends, Inyang who said he's storming his Ward IV on Saturday to show the gesture of love to his people, especially at the Yuletide, reasoned that Obong Nsima Ekere has recorded commendable strides as the MD of Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC and would do more for Akwa Ibom people when he resumes office as Governor from 2019.

He stated that what he was doing at the moment was a tip of the ice berg as he has mapped out numerous strategies to galvanize massive support for the 'in-coming' governor, Obong Nsima Ekere.

Taking delivery of the item on behalf of the APC governorship flag bearer, his sister, Mrs Enobong Ufot commended the idea of the giver, especially in going so far to brand the bags of rice, saying Obong Nsima Ekere would see the donation and reward him accordingly.

She said, "I want to commend the Barrister for this very thoughtful idea. We are in a community where too many people hardly think of giving to the rich. The notion is that the rich already have and do not need to be given something, especially in times like this.

"I pray that when His Excellency comes into office in 2019, he'll be able to reward this sincere support. I'll make sure he sees this and gets back to you. We look forward to working with you in future. With people like you, Akwa Ibom will be better".

It could be recalled that Lawrence contested the Urue Offong Oruko State Constituency at the just concluded APC primaries, where he and others conceded to Barr Omen Bassey, who is the flag bearer for the 2019 elections.

FAIR'S FAIR

It is only civil to report to my teeming supporters and followers the outcome of the just concluded APC primaries held in Urue-Offong/Oruko State Constituency of Akwa Ibom State.

We, the seven aspirants (out of eight) from the favoured zone (Urue-Offong Development Area) opted for a consensus candidate to stave off a situation which otherwise would have put the constituency at sixes and sevens in the foreseeable future.

My personal satisfaction is that BARR. OMEN BASSEY, who emerged the winner of that arrangement is also a youthful person who shares similar ideologies and programmes as myself, and I firmly believe that if voted, will raise the bar of our legislative engagements in the 7th Constituent Assembly.

Three lessons learned from the entire exercise (including consultations and politicking) suffice thus:

1. The destiny of a man lies purely in God's hands alone and no man.

2. A combination of the brains and brawn of the youths together with the wisdom and guidance of rational thinking elders makes for an auspicious combo.

3. Those who fight a just cause and stand by the truth and justice may well earn their reward rather sooner than later...

So, thank you very much, Friends of Inyang Lawrence Edem - FILE, for your support (physically, morally and financially). You shall be celebrated.

And by the way, it is only the beginning... And we shall be back with a big bang!

THE DAYS OF RECKONING...

A young school leaver asked me a couple of days ago, albeit with forlorn hope, "How can you make people see things the way they are supposed to be, considering the kind of politics that we play?".

In those exact words.

MY RESPONSE

A bright mind once said, "The man who fails is the man who never tries".

And in my humble opinion, politics is a no do-or-die affair. If any of the aspirants (with due respect to them) has better credentials, experience and motives better than mine, I would rather cut my losses (if any), and join hands with such individual to bring about that marked difference from time past.

But then, I boldly implore the highly learned people of Urue-Offong/Oruko State Constituency to set the pace as usual, call on all the aspirants for an interface, where we would be accorded an opportunity to present those credentials, programmes and legislative agenda we all boast about to the electorate for proper assessment and informed decision.

The rest of the world is moving at too fast a pace. We cannot afford any longer to perpetually leave jobs meant for medical surgeons in the hands of shoe cobblers... All in the name of "Almighty" politics!

The days of reckoning are indeed here.

VOLENTI NON FIT INJURIA

Also known as "Voluntary Assumption of Risks", the Latin maxim above could be expressed as follows, "He who gives consent to an injury caused him cannot be heard to seek redress for damages arising from such an injury".

We, the people of Urue-Offong Oruko LGA of Akwa Ibom State are known to be well lettered, and a people who compete enviably in all matters of civil endeavors - academically, politically and socially.

Never again shall we subject ourselves to another tortuous season of legislative inertia.

You urgently need me to resuscitate us from this self-induced coma...
