The Barber

Chapter Six

He looked at his phone thinking it might be his girlfriend calling, surprised it was Stanely. He took the phone from the bed picked the call and placed the phone on his left ear.

“Hello, Eric can you hear me?” His voice was coming from the other end.

“Yes, i can hear you, what is it?” Eric asked him.

“Regarding of the suggestion i gave you this afternoon, have you had a second thought over it, and what do you have to say? Have you change your mind?” He asked Eric.

“Yes, regarding to that, i still stand to my word's, I'm not changing my mind Oga”

“You don't mean it, do you?” Stanely asked him surprised, he couldn't believe Eric was that stubborn.

“Yes i mean it” Eric replied firmly.

“My guy, you sure?”

“Guy, i say i no do, why you dey ask me if i dey sure?” Eric was paranoid.

“Now, hear me Eric, hear me well, i don't want you to tell anyone of the suggestion i brought to you or let another hear of it and know that i was involve, or you have yourself to blame” Stanely threatened.

“Guy, are you threatening me, Hope it's not a threat?” Eric asked him.

“Yes, it's a threat, what will you do?” Stanely asked him, defensively.

“See guy, don't threaten me ooo, be careful”

“Eric you too small, but have given you my warning, may Nobody hear of what we discussed this afternoon or else…”

“Get out” Eric hanged the call without allowing him to finish.

Eric was vexed,he was sweating profusely, Stanely intention was to scare him so he would not tell anyone what they had discussed earlier that evening.

“Who does this fool, think he is? Threatening me because i don't do street like them, if i was into street, he had no knowledge of where i would be by now if i’m together with them on all of this street matter” Eric Soliloquized.

He got up from the bed and walked to the bathroom to take his bath, he returned to the bathroom after he was done and hit the bed.

Stanely was vexed when Eric hanged the phone in his ear.

“Oboy, this guy no fear to hang phone on the ear” He told his friend Hilary, who was having a drink with him in his sittingroom.

“Guy,who be that manchi guy?” Hilary asked him.

“Guy, na one jew like that, poor boy i dey compassionate with to help his life by referring him the barbing scheme because he is a barber, this guy fall my hand”

“Na olodo that one be”

“Imagine this guy, also get mind hang me on call, like say i be jew man like him, him know no say levels dey guy” Stanely bragged.

“Chairman, na you go call am, wetin you wan tell who reject your offer again?” Hilary asked Stanley.

“I want to know if he had changed his mind and to warn him to keep what i said a secret or he have himself to blame for whatever i do to him next, the guy come dey ask me if i was threatening him”

“Guy, this guy no suppose to they bother you, i feat run this guy matter for you,if you show me his salon, him no dey fear” Hilary said.

“Guy, leave am, e get why i no wan handle the guy raw, i just wan warn am, i know say e go coordinate”

The two spent the rest of the evening in the sittingroom, discussing and smoking cannabis.

It has being a month, since Stanely called Eric and warned him never to disclose what they discussed to anyone.

One Sunday afternoon, Eric was in the salon with his girlfriend Chioma. The both were watching a movie after Eric had finished barbing a customer that left the salon.

The salon was quiet, Eric was sitting on the waiting chair while Chioma was lying on the chair and resting her head on Eric crotch area while watching the movie.

A young man walked into the place, Eric had no idea of who he is, he thought he was a customer that came to barb but unaware to him he is Stanely’s friend, Hilary.

Hilary opened the glass door and walked into the shop looking at Eric. Eric was suspicious with the way he was looking at him, for a moment his heart was beating fast against his chest, he slowly ask Chioma to get up while he stood up to get the apron.

“Welcome customer, have your seat” Eric said getting up, his eyes was fixed on the young man.

“Na you be the barber?, na you be the Olodo!”

Eric was surprised he wondered where the young man knew him from, how did he enter his shop and call him Olodo?.

“Wait ooo, do you know me from anywhere before?” Have we met before Mr?” Eric asked him perplex.

“No be you wey my guy give idea, you say you no wan do, na Olodo they make that kind decision, you go die poor bro” He mocked Eric.

Chioma shifted her attention from the television to the young man that was talking to Eric, she was confused and had a lot of question to ask Eric, but that was eventually when the young man leave, but one question remained on her mind, who is the young man?.

Eric hearing what the young man said, knew he was one of Stanely's friend's he wondered why he came to his salon to embarrass.

“Young man, did you come here to barb or you came here just to insult me?,which one of them brought you here?” Eric asked him trying to change the conversation.

“Guy, i no really wan barb i want to know you the guy wey reject help and i've met you now that's enough for now”

“Is that necessary, what's your business that i reject help or not was the offer a genuine one?” Eric asked vexed.

“Guy no shout at me, i’m not kind as my guy Stanely, my own be say i go handle your matter straight up”

“Guy, seems like you're on drugs, leave my place” Eric ordered.

“And if i don't, what will you do?” He asked Eric.

Eric didn't give him a response, he bend down and got a bottle he kept under the chair, Chioma’s heart skipped when she saw Eric bringing out a bottle. Eric went after him, Hilary ran away afraid Eric was going to break the bottle on him.

When Eric saw he had given a little distance from the salon, he decided to halt chasing him and retreat. When Hilary noticed Eric wasn't pursuing him again he halt and began threatening to get back to him. Eric said no word he returned to the salon to met Chioma.

The moment Chioma saw the bottle in his hand as perfect as it was when he gave the young man a chase, she sighed deeply, Eric returned the bottle to where he got it from and sat down on the chair, Chioma sat next to him and asked.

“Eric, do you know him?”

“I don't know him”

“But what is he saying?, that someone offered you an opportunity but you didn't take it, who is that?”

“It's not a genuine opportunity”

“What opportunity is that?, and you never cared to tell me of it, what's that?, who is the person?”

The Barber

Chapter Five

“I don't think i can do it, like what are they doing with people's hair?”

“Eric, i've told you what they do with the hair doesn't concern you and has nothing to do with you, just give them hair you get paid daily” Stanely retorted.

“I can't do it, I'm sure the hair is used for some fe**sh stuff and i can't be agent ruining men destinies”

“Watch your mouth, i never mentioned that, you're Okay to decline my offer but don't abuse it and drag me” Stanely spoke and walked out angrily from his shop.

Eric sat down on the chair, with an heavy mind and heart, he began contemplating about the deal which Stanely proposed.

It made no sense to him why someone would buy customer’s hair. “What's the person using it for?” He asked himself severally.

He was quiet sure that those buying the hair are buying it on a purpose, which was probably for juju.

For a while, Eric was terrified. He was apprehensive that things were happening beneath the sun and the moon, Stanely had bodly claimed that they were other barber's who are doing the same thing.

Eric was trying to guess of those barber's who might be indulging in those kind of deal.

“God, we live in a wicked world, God please i beg of you, who and who are this barber's that are dealing with this kind of deal? Father review them to me so i wouldn't go to them to barb me” Eric soliloquized.

Eric was absent minded, he imagined the amount of money those guys are probably making in one transaction, he remember Stanely telling him that one successful transaction can turn out to be three millions or more.

For some time, he felt tempted to have taken the offer when Stanely came. “Was it not to give them hair at the end of each day and receive my pay daily” A voice spoke louder in his head.

“That won't be the better idea” Eric murmured to himself looking out through the glass door seeing a customer that was walking towards his shop.

He quickly got up from the chair and got the apron, the clients opened the glass door walked in and shared pleasantries with him before he took his seat to have his haircut.

The rest of the day was uneventful, Eric has being quiet throughout his stay in the shop.

He has closed and was going home. The thought of what he discussed with Stanley that evening was still on his mind, he was troubled.

When he reached home, he took his bath and lied on the bed contemplating deeply, Eric was wondering if he made a wrong decision by dismissing Stanely or if he was right for doing it, but was still confuse.

A call came into his phone, he looked at it with a heavy heart, it was his mother calling. Eric took a deep breath and relieved before picking the call.

“Hello, Eric how are you?” His mother asked him in igbo dialect.

“Mama, i dey alright”

“My son sorry to disturb you, this one you're responding like this hope you're okay?”

“Mama,i'm not okay, I'm sick” Eric lied.

“Ehh, have you taken your medication?”

“Yes ma, i managed to buy drug's this evening, i would have sent you some money but drugs took all of them from me”

“My son no problem, but hope you're getting better? health is wealth” His mother assured him.

“Gradually ma” Eric responded pretending to be weak.

“Okay, thank God, but what did they say is wrong with you?”

“Ma, it's typhoid and malaria”

“It's well, your sister was sent home last week for not paying school fees and she do be staying home this week, but it's well, Oga adicha ma, just make sure you're getting better, hope you have eaten also?”

“I managed, later we talk” Eric spoke and hanged the call.

He wanted to cut his conversation with his mother short. Tears were in his eyes when he hanged the call, he was disappointed. His sister was sent home for not paying school fees, in his heart Eric was asking God when it was going to be over.

For the next one hour, he laid on the bed thinking of how he was going to raise money for his younger sister to get back to school. Even if he isn't capable of giving them money for upkeep he wanted to send the school fees, so Erica will continue with her studies.

After contemplating, Eric decided to call his girlfriend. She was the last option he had. He took his phone and dialed Chioma’s number, placed the phone on his right ear while he waited anxiously for her to pick her call.

The phone rang for almost eternity before, she picked her call.

“How far bros” She asked, for that was what she usually calls him.

“Please where are you now?” Eric asked her, in an urgent voice.

“Is there any problem? Why did you sound like there is something wrong with you? Where are you bros?”

“I dey house,i dey home but i get some kind downtime right now, i'm pressed in need of thirty-five thousand”

“Bros, Again is it because i borrowed you the last time, see this are my business funds, i can't keep borrowing and borrowing especially without interest” She lamented.

“Please i know it's not easy, but please borrow me i'm using it for something urgent that needs my attention” Eric was pleading.

“You dey worry, i was the one that made the mistake for giving you the other time, now so if you need money you approach me,it has to stop, i'm not a bank manager”

Eric was speechless for a while he didn't know what to say. For a while neither of them spoke any word to each other, before Chioma hanged the phone call.

Eric was disappointed. He felt like his world was crumbling before him. He laid still on the bed with his sight blur he couldn't see properly. He was like that for a couple of minutes, he was jolted back to where he was when a call entered his phone.

The Barber

Chapter four

Eric was disappointed, he sat on the chair looking out through the glass door to see if he could catch a glimpse of any client coming fora hair cut.

There was none coming, it is being three hours since the rain stopped falling. Eric was disappointed, his mother was going to call him soon Sunday was the day he promised to send money home for their upkeep and to pay his younger sister tuition fees, he was thinking of what was going to be his response to his mother.

That hasn't being the first time he had disappointed her, but this particular time it is being long since he last sent money home, Eric didn't want to disappoint home again, but it seems like he had no option than to tell them he didn't meet up.

Eric remembered that he didn't attend lectures that weekend because of a particular textbook he wanted to buy for his studies, he hasn't also being able to make the money to purchase the text book.

His hands were on his jaw as he contemplated about what to do next, he hasn't eaten that day, he wondered what he was going to eat as there was no money with him, aside of that which he wanted to use and buy petrol to fuel his generator.

Eric was lost in thought, for a while he remininced about his background and inwardly asked God why he was born in a poor home, he can't remember how long he had being sitting in the position he was when he was jolted back to where he was by Stanley one of his client's.

“Oboy, wetin you bin dey think self?” Stanley asked him, as he entered the shop.

“Guy, na you, you come, guy no mind me, alot has being going on, on the boy's mind” Eric said.

“Wetin, dey go on again for your mind?, na home dey call you for assistance?” He asked Eric, taking his seat on the chair for a haircut.

“Omo, no be small thing guy, abeg make i bring apron” Eric spoke and went for apron to cover Stanley.

“Guy, you know wetin i dey barb normally, fade am well oo!”

“Bro, you don't have a problem, at your service” Eric assured him smiling.
Eric covered Stanley with apron, used the lighter to sterilize the clipper and began cutting his hair.

Within four minutes he was done. He applied him after shave and took off the apron on him, Stanley got up to check himself on the mirror.

“So my guy, wetin you say make you dey absent minded when i walked in here?” Stanley came again.

“Guy, alot but it will only get better, definitely” Eric said confidently.

“If you say so, but it only get better for who acts and not one that keeps complaining and sobbing”

“What do you mean? Like i'm trying my best should i kill myself that life is hard for me?” Eric asked him.

“I didn't say you should kill yourself brother, but you can take a step to changing your situation, I'm sure it's a financial circumstance and you can take a step”

“What other step do you want me to take?” Eric retorted.

“Don't ask me that like you you're a kid born Today, my Guy you have to step up as a man or you want to be here forever barbing hair?”

“Hope this isn't a bait to get me into drug pushing?” Eric asked him looking at Stanley into the eyes.

“Guy, collect your money biko, I'm not preparing any bait for you; morever there are many ways to make money and i've an exclusive idea specially for you, that will make you millions in one transaction and you still be here barbing hair and people will think that it's hair cut funding your life”

Eric wanted to cut the conversation the moment he collected his money from him, but when Stanley mentioned he had an exclusive idea specially for him that will generate millions to him for just barbing hair he was interested and wanted to know, what it was since it wasn't a drug deal.

“So what's the exclusive idea?” Eric asked after carefully picking his word's and coming up with that question.

“It's quiet simple and never stressful it doesn't take away your job and through this salon you boom more”

“So what's is it all about?” Eric asked again, this time he was impatient.

“At the end of the day pack the hair of your customer's, i will link you to men who will be coming here at the end of the day to buy them, every week and you can be fortunate to make three millions in one transaction”

“What?, but what are they using the hair for?” Eric retorted.

“That one is none of your business, your job is to sell their hair and make money, what is done with those hair doesn't concern you, after all they are waste and someone is trying to help you dispose them properly by coming to buy them from you and you're not grateful, you don't mean it?” Stanely asked vexed.

Eric looked at Stanley from head to toe, for a while he didn't say anything. He couldn't believe the kind of connection Stanely has.

He thought he was only an agbero that was into drug dealing, but he was surprised he still had more links to other world and this simply means if he agree to the deal he had just brought to him, he will be linked up with men who are into the business and that might be the beginning of the journey.

The biggest question sitting on Eric heart was what the men buying the hair are using it for.

“Eric the barber, are you in? Or are you still contemplating, what i'm giving you today is what most of your colleagues are doing low-key and are cashing out from and you will be thinking it's the hair they cut is bringing the money but they are doing things and things, Oboy you dey do or you no dey do?” Stanley asked him in a mock appreoach, he seemed to be enjoying the atmosphere of the room.

The Barber

Chapter Three

“I will so much appreciate, if you take me to your brother, i hope he will accept me?” Eric asked almost kneeling down.

“Ehh, Get up don't kneel, I'm not God, sit down let me call my brother on phone”

“Thank you so much, may God bless you for me, you don't know how happy i'm right now” Eric spoke while he got up and sat on the chair.

She collected her phone and dialed her brother's number, Joseph her brother picked her call almost immediately, Esther for that was her name told Joseph about Eric and how he met him, how stranded he was to start life in a new city, Joseph asked her to give Eric phone to have a word with him.

“Take, my brother wants to have a word with you” Esther spoke handing the phone to Eric.

Eric collected the phone from her and placed them on his left ears.

“Hello, Good evening sir” Eric greeted.

“Good evening, are you the one my sister's say’s you will be coming to stay with me?”

“Yes sir”

“According to her, she says you're just coming into town?”

“Yes sir”

“From where?” He retorted.

“From my village,Ogidi”

“Okay, that's Anambra state, that's where i did my apprentice, so what's your name?”

“I'm Eric”

“She will have to come with you then, so i will access you and know if you and i can live or otherwise, hope you are not one of those that committed in your state and ran away?”

“No, I'm not sir, i only left home to city to hustle”

“Okay, I've heard you, she will bring you here, i will have to access you well you know you're a stranger, give my sister the phone”

“Okay, thank you” Eric spoke and handed the phone over to Esther.

Esther spoke with her brother for some few minutes before she hanged the call and told Eric that he will be taking him to see her brother.

“Eric you have to wait, there is a tricyclist coming to pick me up, if he eventually comes here we will be leaving together”

“No problem, thank you for recommending me to your brother”

“You have no problem, he was once like you, but you're fortunate imagine if you left here earlier where would have you gone to since you know nobody here?”

“Honestly, i don't know where i would have gone to, but thank God i stayed behind and thank God for you too”

“It's alright, you're welcome but mind you, you have to be intentional if you must make it in the city, especially as you're coming with no family support or safety net, life will be hard but discipline and how intentional you're will determine how far you can go” Esther told him.

“I perfectly understand and i believe God will help me”

“Seeing you makes me believe you will make it, i don't know you before but i can see you're very humble and kind, you have a quiet ambition sitting in your chest and you will make it”

“Amen”

“Just keep pushing, see there will be moments you will feel like running back home but mind you it's no longer a valid option, remember why you left home in the first place”

“Thank you so much for your encouragement and concern, i appreciate all of your kind words, frankly” Eric was very happy.

Just as he was thanking her a tricyclist pulled up and halt in front of the kiosk. The tricyclist began apologizing to Esther for keeping her waiting for the past one hour.

“Madam Mama Africa, please i'm so sorry, for coming by this time, it won't happen again, I got a trouble-some passenger that was on my neck but thank God, please no vex for me,nwaanyi Oma”

“No problem, Eric get your bags let's get going”

Eric got his luggage followed Esther and her little girl into the tricycle, the tricyclist brought the engine to life and drove into the dark street.

Eric was dropped at Joseph's residence along the road, Esther bid him Good-bye while the tricyclist drived her away with the little girl with her.

Immediately Joseph saw Eric he smiled, Eric appeared humble and innocent, he doesn't look like someone who ran away from village because of violences, he doesn't also look like someone who will bring trouble to him, his spirit accepted Eric immediately.

When Eric approached him, he shook hands with him and asked they should go inside, Eric was surprised that he didn't ask him any question.

The both went inside, Joseph was living in a self contained apartment, as they got into the apartment, Joseph asked him to go take his bath in the bathroom while he dished a meal for him to eat.

When Eric was done bathing, he was surprised to be served a meal, he ate and before retiring into the night he thanked Joseph for his hospitality.

The next day, the both prepared and left the house, that day was Eric first day in the shop, his first day of learning barbing, it wasn't convenient.

Ar first it was complicated for Eric but soon he began to understand. Within a year of living with Joseph he was good in barbing and was the one managing the business while Joseph go about managing other business he was handling.

A year later, Joseph seeing his zeal and efforts he was putting to make the business grow decided to leave the barbing shop for Eric to manage and start life with.

On the day Joseph handed over the place to Eric, Eric was very grateful he fell flat on the floor appreciating him, he has being struggling for the past one years to save money from his salary to open his own barbing salon but responsibility coming from home was taking all of the money he was saving.

At a point he became frustrated and almost wanted to give up, but he still remembered that giving up on opening his own shop wasn't an optional. He still had to establish his own, he still wanted to further his education and live a life better life than being a Barber.

It's being two year's since Joseph handed his shop over to Eric and had long ago relocated from Aba to Lagos to expand his other businesses.

Eric was growing at his own pace, he had being able to keep to his mother's promise by giving higher education a chance.

He was a part-time student in a federal university, running his barbing business and sending money home, it hasn't being easy with him managing a business and studying at the same time, most of the times he felt like giving up on one of them, mostimes he question the decision he made to further his education.

On a Sunday morning, he missed weekend lectures that week because he wanted to stay behind in business and make some money to pay for a text book and also send money home for his younger sister tuition fees.

The weekend didn't go as he expected, the previous day Saturday there was heavy rainfall that many didn't go to work, Eric was disappointed he had only one customer that day alone hoping that Sunday was going to be better, the rain came again which started in the early morning and stopped around 3pm, Eric was depressed, confused and disappointed.

This were the two days he had being hoping to make good money to foot the bills that were ahead of him,but it seems like after making his own plans, universe plans hers too.

THE BABER

Chapter Two

When Eric got to the park that morning, he met a particular bus which was remaining few person's to leave the park, he approached the driver who was sitting beside the bus with a plastic chair and asked him.

“Oga Good morning, where is this bus going to?”

“Good morning my brother, we are going to Aba, It's remaining three persons for us to get going” The driver spoke in igbo dialect.

“Okay, how much is the fare?”

“Ten thousand only” The driver replied him in igbo.

“Okay, where will you be putting my luggae?” Eric asked the driver.

“Give them to me, let me put it into the boot” He said, got up from the chair to collect Eric's luggage from him.

Eric gave him his bag, he walked to the door and entered the bus taking his seat at the seat at the back.

The driver took his luggage and kept them him in the boot of the bus.

Fifteen minutes later, the bus was filled with passengers all going to Aba, the driver brought the engine to life and brought the car tyres rolling on the road.

Eric was deep into thought since he entered the bus, he has being contemplating about the reality of fate that he was going to met in the city of Aba, he knew no one there, he wondered how he was going to start life.

The moment the driver kicked started the engine, Eric for the first time felt the real weight of his decision, his heart was beating fast against his chest, all this while he had decided to leave the village and find a greener pasture in the city but then it was only a plan, he could feel the weight of it and wondered if he was going to be able to bear it.

Eric tried to imagine how life was going to be in the new city but his mind couldn't picture it at all, at some point he felt tempted to halt the driver and ask him to allow him go back that he forgot something valuable at home, but then he remembered the reason he was leaving home for.

Eric was sweating profusely even when there was enough ventilation in the bus, it doesn't seem like one was in the bus, at some point he questioned himself and his decision to leave the village.

He could remember his mother supported him to go but to stay discipline and intentional with life after, he remembered the humiliation he got exactly the same time yesterday at the construction site, tears almost cascaded from his eyes, he was quick to wipe them immediately to avoid people taking notice of it.

Eric embraced the journey, to him leaving the village to the city was the only option and even if it wasn't enough he believed he has to make it work.

The rest of the journey to Aba he was in the vehicle with faith and prayers, praying in his heart that God makes a way for him and hopefully things work out for him.

He wished if he could met someone that he knows before in Aba, he wished if he would met someone who will accommodate him, he was famished and wished he will met someone who will be willing to offer him a meal to eat.

About three hours later they got to Aba, the bus halted inside the park and parked at the available space. Before Eric came down from the bus to claim his luggage he paid for his transport fare. He alighted alongside with other passengers and waited on the queue to collect his luggage and walked out from the park.

Eric walked into the streets with no destination, he knew no one, every face he was seeing wasn't familiar with him, he came to a realization that he has to start from somewhere.

He walked down the streets under the scorching heat of the sun with his luggage on his back, looking at the buildings at the both sides of the roads and admiring them. The houses here in Aba was bigger and were much more modern than the one's in his village.

It was late in the evening after haven walked many kilometers. Eric was tired, famished and very thirsty he had little money left on him, the sun had disappeared from the sky and the day light was slowly fading away giving way for darkness. Eric with his luggage tired and hungry walked into a road side fast-food.

He walked into the place and met men who were sitting down waiting for their meal to be served, some other ones were devouring their meal like they haven't eaten before. “Her food must be very delicious” Eric thought.

He looked at the banner outside of the place and saw the fast food name inscribed as “Mama Africa”, her food must be very tasty for her to go with such a name, Eric thought admiring the young beautiful woman with rounded face who was behind the coller dishing meal for her customer's.

A minute later a little girl of ten approached Eric where he was sitting and asked him what he wanted to eat.

“Good evening sir, what should we put for you?”

“Oh, Akpu and Oha soup” Eric requested.

“Okay sir” The little girl said and was about to leave when Eric called her back.

“Oh, Extra Akpu please and how much is it?” Eric asked her.

“A thousand naira” the little girl spoke walking back to Eric.

“Go ahead and put for me then” Eric spoke nodding his head in affirmation. “Let it be big ooo” Eric added.

Two minute's later his meal was served to him with a little wash hand basin, Eric washed his hand and began to devour the meal, he didn't know when he finished the food, he drank the sachet water brought along with the food and continued contemplating of his next move from there.

He wasn't bellefull, he was thinking of where he was going to pass the night and the uncertainty waiting for him the next day.

He was deep in the thought that he didn't know when everyone in the fast-food left, before he realized it, it was already an hour into the midnight, that was in the moment he asked the little girl that brought him food, she came again to collect money for the food she brought to him earlier.

For a minute Eric was stranded, the only person left in the fast-food was him, the owner and the little girl. He took his luggage and was about leaving the fast-food his mind was heavy he wondered where he was going to pass the night.

Alll this while the lady who owns the fast-food took interest of him and have wanted to engage him in a conversation but she was hesitant because she wasn't sure of how Eric was going to react, he looked more like someone who something was bothering, the time she saw Eric walking out from the restaurant she took it as the perfect opportunity to have a word with him.

“Customer you're leaving, without saying Goodbye;na so you dey do?” She started.

“Oh, Sorry, that's bad of me, biko” Eric spoke turning back “wetin pesin carry for head too much” He said in Nigeria pidgin.

“Okay, but customer i haven't being seeing you here before, are you new to this place?, you're also carrying your luggage” She asked Eric.

“Yes, i’m new to this place, Eric spoke walking back to her “I'm new to this place,I'm coming here from Anambra, i've no where to pass the night, I'm worried” Eric gathered the courage to speak he never wanted to tell her his quandary but he had no option, the lady might help him, he thought.

“Oh, you're welcome, chaiii, how is home, have you heard from them?” She asked Eric.

“I don't have a phone, but i know they will be fine”

“Chaii, i've an elder brother who is a barber and i want to beg him to accommodate you, maybe you will have to work with him in his barbing salon, it will be of your own advantage, you learn the skill and eventually open your own salon, what do you think?” She asked Eric.

Eric was so happy, butterflies flied his belly, he smiled and couldn't still believe his ears, hours ago he was sitting down worried of how and where he was going to spend the night but now an opportunity came knocking.
