The National Museum Lagos established in 1957, is perhaps one of the Commission's best museums holding a comprehensive selection of over 50% of the Commission's collections. Its grounds covering about three acres of land with its purpose built structures containing galleries, collection storage area, offices and large car parks have made it one of the best designed and opened spaces in
Lagos. St

rategically located within a cultural and entertainment zone in the heart of the commercial city of Lagos and with easy transportation access, the museum attracts thousands of visitors every year. The National Museum Lagos has thus played and continues to play a leading role in the provision of museum services to individuals as well as private and corporate organizations and to schools, researchers and scholars and other museums. From its inception, the National Museum Lagos became the headquarters of the Department of Antiquities and continued as HQ when the department acquired a new status as the National Commission for Museums and Monuments in 1979.
