The former Oyo Commissioner for Works and Transport, Prof. Abdulrahmon Raphael Afonja, has empowered over 500 students who are less privileged with school materials across 31 schools in Ogbomoso North as part of his strategy to complement Governor Seyi Makinde’s efforts.
During the flag-off ceremony, he also promised 53 pairs of sandals to children who were shoeless.
The distributions took place on Thursday at Osupa Day School in the presence of influential Peoples in Ogbomoso including Hon. George Ogunlade, chairman of PDP Ogbomoso North, Hon. Adijat Oritoke Rainbow, chairmanperson of Ogbomoso Central LCDA, Hon. Sunday Bankole, and Hon. Mrs. Areo Grace, Supervisor of Education and women affairs who are members of Peoples Democratic Party.
Prof. Afonja urged the parents to continue encouraging their students as education is the best asset to give to children.
He maintained that the gesture is meant to further complement the governor’s efforts who have shown sufficient concern for the state’s educational sector.
He said: “Governor Seyi Makinde has been able to restructure the state’s educational system and has even been able to return around 60,000 children to the classroom who were on street during the previous administration.
The best legacy to give children is education. Our governor is very committed to that, which is why I’m doing this to support him. I’m asking you to vote for him in the upcoming election so that he can keep up the good work of improving the state.
However, the Ogbomoso Central LCDA Chairperson, Hon. Adijat Rainbow, encouraged the children to face their studies and advised them to use Prof. Afonja as a case study going forward.
She equally urged the parents to support Governor Makinde second term ambition for continuous development of the state.
Hon. George Ogunlade, the PDP party chairman of Ogbomoso North, who also spoke at the event, tasked the children to also emulate Prof. Rapheal Afonja, who is well-known for his enormous contributions to society and prayed also prayed for them to succeed in life.
Ogunlade pointed out that the school materials being distributed today are a complement to Governor Seyi Makinde by Hon. Afonja.
Among the school materials distributed to the over 500 students who are less privileged include Exercise books, bags, uniforms, pencil and biro.
