WAITING FOR THE FIRST RAIN: Life along a Lonely Country Road in Central Nigeria.
This is a quiet tarred road winding through a farming community in central Nigeria, stretching far into the dry horizon like it has nowhere to rush to.
At the peak of the dry season, everything around it feels tired and still.
The once-green edges of the roadside now look faded and dusty, with brittle grasses bending under the weight of heat and time.
The road itself feels lonely.
Few vehicles pass, and when they do, they leave behind a thin trail of dust that slowly settles back into silence.
The trees standing along the roadside appear patient, almost resigned, as if they, too, are waiting for something they cannot call, but deeply expect.
Farm fields on both sides lie quiet, their soil cracked and pale, holding memories of past harvests and promises of future rain.
Farmers move slowly through this landscape, their eyes not on what is, but on what will be when the skies finally open.
Yet beneath this stillness lies hope. Everyone knows this dryness is temporary.
When the first rain finally falls, it changes everything, reviving the soil, refreshing the air, and turning this lonely road into a path through green life and abundance again.
In this land, rain is not just weather… it is renewal, beauty, and life returning home.
