EXECUTIVE GOVERNOR OF NIGER STATE FLAGS OFF DISTRIBUTION OF FOOD, NUTRITIONAL ITEMS AND DRUGS TO THE VULNERABLES AT NEW BUSSA - BORGU LGA
***REITERATES GOVERNMENT AND DEVELOPMENT PARTNERS COMMITMENT TOWARDS ACCELERATING PROCESSES OF REUNITING AND RESETTLING IDPs IN THE AREA***
Niger State governor, His Excellency Rt Hon Umaru Mohammed Bago has disclosed that the State Government in collaboration with the federal government and development partners are working round the clock to speed up the reunification of IDPs from Borgu with their immediate families
He made the disclosure during the presidential initiative on distribution of food, nutritional items and drugs to the vulnerables affected by humanitarian crisis in Borgu Local Government Area.
Gov Umaru Bago who revealed that over 500,000 displaced persons from Niger State are scattered around Kebbi, Kwara, Kogi, Kaduna States and the FCT as well as Benin Republic added that, frantic efforts are in place to ensure that these people return home soonest.
He also disclosed that His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed that the National Park in Borgu be cleared and made habitable which will also include the establishment of permanent bases for all security apparatus in order to squarely address the growing cases of insecurity stemming out from criminal elements.
Gov Umaru Bago who appealed for patience and understanding from the people of Borgu said, the gesture by the federal government in providing food items is a show of concern for the people who have been displaced and serve as relief to them.
The Emir of Borgu, His Royal Highness Alhaji Haliru Dantoro Kitoro IV in his remarks appreciated the tireless efforts of the Governor whom he described as an exemplary leader who has always showm concern for his people especially the people of Borgu that have been faving series of security challenges.
The Emir also acknowledged the efforts of the federal government and used the opportunity to call on his people to exercise patience as government at all levels are working round the clock to ensure safety of the citizenry.
Minister of State for Agriculture, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi thanked the federal government for its show of sympathy to the people of Borgu while also acknowledging the efforts of the Governor in ensuring peace returns to Borgu Emirate.
The Council Chairman of Borgu Local Government Area, Hon Abdullahi Mohammed Nasir, Commissioner for humanitarian affairs, Dr. Ahmed Ibrahim Inga and the Jikadan Borgu in their separate remarks commended both the federal and state governments for the noble gesture which they say will go along way in ameolarating the sufferings of the people who have lost their sources of livehoods.
Highlight of the event was the symbolic presentation of food items to some of the beneficiaries cutting across Borgu Kingdom.
