The Wife of the Governor of Niger State, Her Excellency Hajiya Fatima Mohammed Bago, has extended her grassroots economic empowerment initiative to Edati Local Government Area with a β¦100 million Mega Empowerment Programme, designed to support residents across the ten wards of the Local Government.
In a Press Statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Wife of the Governor, Hadiza Abdullahi Maikano, the initiative was described as part of The First Lady's sustained commitment to taking meaningful economic opportunities directly to the grassroots and improving the livelihoods of residents across Niger State.
Under the programme, β¦10 million was allocated to each of the ten wards, with individual beneficiaries receiving β¦100,000 each to support existing businesses, establish new ventures and strengthen their sources of livelihood.
The benefiting wards are Enagi, Guzzan, Rokota, Etsu Tasha, Sakpe, Gbangban, Fazhi, Gonagi, Gazhe 1 and Gazhe 2 Wards.
According to the statement, the intervention goes beyond financial assistance, as it is intended to encourage beneficiaries to become economically productive, self-reliant and capable of creating sustainable livelihoods for themselves and their families.
Hajiya Fatima Mohammed Bago urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the funds, improve their businesses, embrace creativity and explore new opportunities that would enable them to grow beyond the immediate support.
She stressed that the success of the empowerment programme would ultimately depend on how responsibly beneficiaries utilised the opportunity provided to them.
The programme attracted government officials, community leaders, stakeholders and beneficiaries from across Edati Local Government Area.
The Chairman of Edati Local Government Council welcomed the initiative and expressed appreciation to the First Lady for bringing the empowerment programme to the grassroots.
Also speaking, former Commissioner for Transport, Hajiya Ramatu Yaradua, described the intervention as an inclusive programme designed to benefit the people irrespective of political affiliation.
She noted that the primary objective was to improve the living conditions of residents by providing them with the means to strengthen their economic activities.
The event also featured Gwape and other cultural displays, adding colour to the occasion and showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Edati Local Government Area.
The beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the First Lady for the gesture, describing the financial support as timely and capable of making a positive difference in their businesses and livelihoods.
The Edati empowerment programme is part of Hajiya Fatima Mohammed Bagoβs broader grassroots empowerment vision, with plans to extend similar interventions to other Local Government Areas, particularly across Zone A, in order to reach more residents and create wider economic opportunities.
The statement reaffirmed the First Ladyβs commitment to an inclusive empowerment agenda that places the people at the centre of development and seeks to build stronger families, resilient communities and a more prosperous Niger State.
The event took place on Saturday 12th September, 2026 at Enagi Primary School, Edati Local Government Area.
