Happy 66th Independence Day, Nigeria! 🇳🇬

As Nigeria celebrates 66 years of independence, we remain hopeful and determined.

Hopeful that, as young people, we will build resilient and inclusive food systems that secure our food future and establish Nigeria as a nation with true food power.

Hopeful that Benue, our beloved Food Basket of the Nation, will not only feed Nigeria but contribute meaningfully to feeding the rest of Africa.

We believe that the future of our food systems is not something we wait for; it is something we must build together.

And as young agripreneurs, we are ready to play our part.

Here's to a Nigeria where our agricultural potential translates into prosperity, opportunity, and food sovereignty.

Happy Independence Day, Nigeria!

Think differently. Solve differently. Create impact.

Every challenge in agriculture is an invitation to think beyond the usual.

Innovation starts when we begin to ask better questions, challenge old ways of doing things, and imagine possibilities where others see limitations.

At the Benue Agripreneurs Community, we believe that when we think differently, we can develop better solutions, create new opportunities and ultimately make a meaningful impact across our agricultural ecosystem.

This month, we’re challenging you to look at a problem around you and ask:

What can I do differently?

Because a different way of thinking can lead to a different solution—and a different solution can create real impact.

Think differently. Solve differently. Create impact.

WHAT IF REDUCING CLIMATE CHANGE COULD BEGIN WITH HOW MUCH FOOD YOU PUT ON YOUR PLATE?

We often think food waste begins when leftover food is thrown into the bin. But sometimes, the waste begins much earlier—with how much we serve ourselves.

We take more than we can eat, leave what we cannot finish, and discard it. That food has already cost us land, water, energy, labour and other resources used to produce it.

And when food waste is poorly managed, it can contribute to methane emissions, adding to the climate pressures that agriculture itself must face.

Agriculture needs a climate that can support production. Farmers need reliable rainfall, manageable temperatures, healthy soils and an environment where food can continue to grow.

So perhaps we need to rethink something as ordinary as serving food.

Instead of filling the plate because that is how we usually serve, start with a portion you are reasonably sure you can finish. If you need more, serve more.

It is a small change in behaviour, but it changes where we intervene: before food becomes waste.

Less food wasted means more of the resources invested in producing that food are put to their intended use—and less unnecessary waste entering our environment.

Because a clean city does not begin only with picking waste off the street. Sometimes, it begins with creating less waste in the first place.

From Clean Plates to Clean Cities.

Why Innovation?

Innovation is more than technology. It’s a mindset.

As we focus on innovation this month, we’re challenging ourselves to look beyond the way things have always been done and ask: How can we do this better?

Our agricultural challenges require solutions that are bold, practical and built for the future.

From the way we produce and process food to how we access markets, use technology, reduce waste and create value—there is room to innovate across the entire agricultural ecosystem.

And innovation doesn’t always mean inventing something new. Sometimes, it means seeing an old problem differently.

So, this month, let’s challenge ourselves to think differently, solve problems and build solutions that scale.

What agricultural problem would you love to see solved?

BAC Theme of the Month: INNOVATION

Innovation begins with a simple question: “Is there a better way?”

This month, the Benue Agripreneurs Community is focused on building an innovative mindset—learning to see challenges as opportunities, think differently, question existing approaches and create solutions that deliver real impact.

In agriculture, innovation can mean new technology, smarter processes, better markets, reducing waste, creating new products, or simply finding a better way to solve an existing problem.

This month, we’re challenging ourselves to move from identifying problems to building solutions.

So ask yourself:

What problem do I see?
What can I do differently?
What solution can I build?

Think differently. Solve problems. Build solutions that scale.

Today, we had our onboarding meeting for the Benue Agripreneur Community (BAC).

It was a great opportunity to learn, connect and hear directly from people doing meaningful work in agriculture.

We were also privileged to hear from Tracy Dabul the Benue Farmer, who shared insights from her journey as a farmer, how she has been able to scale her business, and the value she is adding to the yam space.

There’s so much to learn, and this is only the beginning.

Benue is creating room for you to build. 🚀

The domestication of the Startup Act by the Benue State House of Assembly is a major step towards creating a stronger ecosystem for innovation, startups and youth-led enterprises in our state.

With opportunities for incentives, incubation, funding and investment, the message is clear: the time to build in Benue is now.

At Benue Agripreneurs Community (BAC), we are building a community where young people can learn, connect, innovate and grow across the agricultural value chain.

A big thank you to the Benue Investment and Property Company (BIPC) for championing this important milestone and helping create an enabling environment for young entrepreneurs.

The environment is changing. The opportunities are growing. What will you build

How do UGWU wholesalers keep their businesses running long after the rain has gone?

The answer? Irrigation.

And the good news is, it’s not just UGWU. Many different crops can be grown with irrigation, even during the dry season.

For us in Benue State, water is not some distant idea.

Take a look at the River Benue. It’s right here.

You can supply water to your farm, purchase water for irrigation, or develop your own water source, such as a borehole, depending on your location and what works for your farm.

The bigger picture? You don't have to wait for the rain before you farm.

At Benue Agripreneurs Community, we’re helping you discover the opportunities within agriculture and understand how they work.

The more you know, the more possibilities you can see — and the better equipped you are to build your agribusiness.

Last week, we asked:

“What part of agriculture would you like to build a career or business in? Choose one.”

One of you chose production and value addition — @ Elizabeth Ojeka— and we thought, let's explore what that actually means.

So, what does production and value addition look like?

Cassava is a simple example.

First, cassava is cultivated and harvested. That is production.

Then, the cassava can be processed into products such as garri, flour or starch. That is value addition.

From producing the raw agricultural product to transforming it into something with additional uses and market opportunities, you can be part of more than one stage of the value chain.

Can you think of another example of agricultural value addition in Benue?

Drop your example in the comments. Let's learn from one another.
