NOTICE OF DEATH

The Leadership of the All Progressives Congress APC, Benue State Chapter, regrets to announce the passing of a distinguished Nigerian politician and the State Woman Leader of the Party in Benue State, Princess Awuese Nancy Torhee, who passed away after a protracted illness.

Princess Awuese, a former Commissioner for Agriculture and Women Affairs in Benue State, was one of the founding members of the APC in Benue State and a steadfast loyalist of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. Dr. George Akume, CON.

She played a pivotal role in mobilizing women across Benue State for the election of Governor Hyacinth Alia and other APC candidates during the 2023 general elections. She also served as a member of the Tinubu/Shettima Women Presidential Campaign Team, where she contributed significantly to the party's electoral success.

The APC Benue State Chapter has lost a committed leader, a passionate mobilizer, and a dedicated party stalwart whose contributions to the growth and consolidation of the party will be fondly remembered.

We extend our deepest condolences to her immediate family, friends and political associates during this difficult time. We pray that Almighty God grants them the strength and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss and grants the departed eternal rest.

Details of her funeral arrangements will be communicated by the family in due course.

May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace.

JIME LEADS APC ASPIRANTS TO PLEDGE LOYALTY TO SGF GEORGE AKUME

Immediate past Executive Secretary Nigeria Shippers Council, and 2019 Gubernatorial Candidate of the All Progressives Congress APC in Benue State, Rt Hon Barr. Emmanuel Liambee Jime, Today, led a high-powered delegation of APC aspirants and party stakeholders from Benue State on a solidarity visit to Sen Dr George Akume, CON the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Leader of the APC in Benue State and North Central Zone.

The delegation reaffirmed its unwavering loyalty to the leadership of the APC and pledged total support for the party under the guidance of the SGF, whom they described as the undisputed leader of the APC in Benue State and the North Central region.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Rt Hon Barr. Emmanuel Jime emphasized the need for unity, discipline and collective commitment among party faithful ahead of the 2027 general elections. He noted that the delegation was united in its resolve to work with the party leadership to ensure the continued success of the APC in Benue State and across Nigeria.

Members of the delegation included Chief Nelson Alapa; Douglas Pepe, SAN (Benue North-West Senatorial Aspirant); Engr. Peter Ashiekaa; QS Clement Beetseh; former Commissioners Joy Luga and Ann Itodo; Barr. Martins Shaagee; Miss Dorcas; Prof. Usar Joseph; Prof. Cephas Tushima; Chief Patrick Idoko; Hon. Patience Akor; Hon. Fred Apochi; Hon. Lawrence Ekpo Onoja Jnr.; Hon. Andrew Abah; Hon. Agbo Innocent Ikwumonu; Hon. Simon Omachoko; Hon. David Egboja; Dr. John Garba, and several other APC leaders and aspirants.

Earlier, former Deputy Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Chief Dan Ali, on behalf of the delegation, moved a motion for a vote of confidence in the leadership of Sen. Dr. George Akume, which was seconded by Barr. Joe Abaagu, former Attorney General of Benue State. He also moved a motion endorsing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term.

In his response, Sen Dr George Akume expressed appreciation for the visit and commended the delegation for demonstrating unity, maturity and commitment to the ideals of the APC. He urged party members to remain focused on strengthening the party at all levels, stressing that unity, justice and inclusiveness remain the foundation for the APC's continued electoral success.

The meeting ended with a renewed commitment by all present to work together for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and ensure victory for the party in Benue state.

Senator Emmanuel Udende remains the duly recognized candidate for the Benue North East Senatorial District.

The rumours alleging that he has been replaced by Gabriel Torwua Suswam are false, baseless, and should be disregarded in their entirety.

Party faithful, supporters, and the general public are advised not to be misled by such misinformation and should rely only on official communications regarding matters concerning the party and its candidates.

GOVERNOR ALIA MEETS TINUBU

Governor Hyacinth Alia met with President Bola Tinubu in a closed-door meeting at the Presidential Villa, where the President reportedly expressed strong concerns over the Governor’s inability to foster unity within the APC in Benue State. The President was said to be displeased that the party remains deeply divided, warning that the opposition could capitalize on the situation ahead of the 2027 elections.

President Tinubu reportedly reminded Governor Alia that he had earlier directed him to constitute a Council of Elders and meet with him in Abuja, a directive the Governor allegedly failed to carry out. The President stressed that no candidate can realistically secure victory with a bitterly divided party structure.

During the meeting, Governor Alia reportedly presented former Governor Gabriel Suswam before the President. Both men were said to have assured the President that they had accepted the party’s decision regarding the replacement of candidates in the recently concluded primaries and would not challenge it. They also pledged to prevail on their supporters not to institute legal action against the party.

Suswam reportedly told the President that, as a new member of the APC, he would abide by the decisions of the party leadership. President Tinubu was said to have commended his disposition.

The Governor also briefed the President on the prevailing security situation in Benue State.

According to the account, President Tinubu further told Governor Alia that, given the current political realities in the state, his chances of securing re-election would be difficult without the support of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume.

Governor Alia also reportedly raised concerns that, unless he secured the support of more members of the Benue State House of Assembly, he could face the risk of impeachment. In response, the President was said to have directed him to engage with the National Chairman of the APC.

The meeting reportedly ended with Governor Alia leaving the Presidential Villa in a sober mood, promising to commence a genuine process of reconciliation within the party.

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN

Primary elections are strictly the internal affairs of political parties. The Supreme Court has consistently affirmed this position, while the role of INEC is limited to monitoring the process.

The 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) is also clear that INEC has no legal authority to reject candidates duly nominated and submitted by any political party.

In Benue State, the APC constituted three separate committees. The Screening Committee, the Primary Election Committee, and the Appeal Committee to conduct and supervise its primary elections. Each committee carried out its assignment and submitted its report to the National Working Committee (NWC), which duly considered the reports and took its final decision.

Having concluded the process, the APC submitted the names of its successful candidates to INEC in accordance with the law. INEC, acting within its constitutional responsibilities, has already uploaded the names of the party's successful candidates to its nomination portal.

The APC has complied with the Constitution, the Electoral Act, and its party guidelines. The list of candidates submitted by the party remains valid.
