‎Today, anyone with a simple email address can go online and register on platforms like Alison, Netacad, and many other tech learning websites FOR FREE.
‎
‎So when a government programme comes out claiming “massive sponsorship” of youths, but all it does is redirect applicants to already free platforms, we must ask:
‎
‎👉 What exactly is being sponsored?
‎
‎Because the reality is this:
‎
‎Participants are the ones using their personal phones or laptops,participants are the ones buying their own data/airtime
Participants are the ones struggling with electricity to stay online
‎
‎Yet, billions are being announced in the name of training and empowerment.”
‎
‎Let’s call it what it is.
‎
‎❌ Referring citizens to free websites is NOT sponsorship
‎❌ It is NOT empowerment
‎❌ And in many cases, it borders on deception
‎
If the government is truly serious about digital transformation, then the focus must shift to what actually matters:

‎✔ Provide laptops or tablets
‎✔ Give data bonuses or stipends
‎✔ Support power supply challenges
‎✔ Fund innovation and startup ideas
‎✔ Reward top-performing trainees
‎
‎Because without these, many young people are simply being registered, counted, and forgotten.
‎
‎Nigeria doesn’t need more headlines
‎We need real investment in people.
‎
‎Until then, let’s stop confusing access to links with access to opportunity.

Our media team captured this photo at an APC event organized a few months after the beginning of this administration. The banner was self -printed by the man holding it, and the message is clear, (Pensioners Are Smiling).While this may reflect progress in some areas, it is also important to acknowledge that certain sectors still require closer attention and supervision.

Take sports in Benue for example.Once proud teams like BCC Lions of Gboko appear almost inactive today, Lobi Stars FC are currently struggling with qualification challenges in the league, and Benue Queens FC seem to exist more in theory than in visible development.The state sports council itself has had very little noticeable impact in recent times.

The same concern extends to the tech sector. The 10,000 Youths Training initiative has been widely criticized, while another 23,000 digital skills training program by BDIC is yet to be properly structured. Many participants have raised concerns about the lack of government support, especially in providing gadgets and funding needed to make learning effective. The road may be promising, but with better planning and support, we can certainly do much better for our youths and the future of Benue.

The partnership between the Benue Digital Infrastructure Company (BDIC) and Cisco Networking Academy to train 23,000 Benue youths in digital skills is a commendable step by the Benue State Government under the leadership of Hyacinth Iormem Alia.

The vision of empowering young people with globally relevant tech skills is inspiring and has the potential to transform lives and open doors to global opportunities.

However, for such a program to truly achieve its purpose, proper planning and support are essential. Many of the courses require laptops, stable internet, and practical learning environments, yet most participants are expected to rely on personal gadgets and data they often cannot afford.providing basic tools for training would make the initiative more accessible and impactful.

The Yes Father Movement World Wide views with deep concern the recent disruption that occurred during the visit of Senator Emmanuel Udende to the hometown of Governor Hyacinth Alia in Benue State. While it is recalled that months ago tensions arose in Sankera following the Governor’s visit, where videos of outrage against his convoy circulated on social media and were linked in public discourse to political interests, it is deeply regrettable that such tensions appear to have resurfaced in the form of retaliation by some youths during what witnesses described as a church service.

As a movement committed to peace and unity, we sincerely apologize to the Distinguished Senator for the unfortunate incident and emphasize that such actions do not reflect the collective values of our people.

We also wish to clearly state that there is no indication that Governor Hyacinth Alia was aware of or involved in this reaction. The growing factions and heated political energy within the party must not be allowed to divide communities or incite young people into actions that undermine respect, civility, and the sanctity of public or religious gatherings. Political differences should never translate into hostility among brothers and sisters of the same state.

Finally, we urge the youths of Benue State to remain calm, responsible, and focused on building a future of peace rather than fueling cycles of retaliation. Leadership is best demonstrated through restraint, dialogue, and mutual respect. Our state stands stronger when unity prevails over political rivalry, and we call on all stakeholders to work together to end this pattern and restore harmony.

The vision of the Benue Digital Infrastructure Company (BDIC) program was to train and certify 23,000 youths across Benue State in high-demand digital skills and raise a generation of innovators who can compete globally. With partners like NITDA, Cisco Academy, Galaxy Backbone, the Ministry of Communications & Digital Economy, the Nigerian Data Protection Commission, and Africa Digital Infrastructure Company, expectations were high.

However, training youths in fields like Ethical Hacking, Software Development, and other advanced digital skills without access to gadgets or proper resources defeats the purpose. Digital skills cannot be learned effectively without the tools needed to practice them.

Yes Father Movement Worldwide therefore calls on the Benue State Government and relevant stakeholders to provide the necessary gadgets and support for participants. Benue youths are ready to learn give them the tools to build the future.

If truly funds meant for vulnerable citizens have not been properly utilized, the state government must urgently investigate, ensure transparency, and return every kobo to its intended purpose. Beyond this, clear accountability mechanisms, public financial reporting, and community monitoring committees should be established to prevent recurrence.
