The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) today commenced a vital two-day Stakeholders’ Policy Review Workshop at the Marriott Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, to deliberate on the review of the National Telecommunications Policy (NTP) 2000. The workshop provides a strategic platform to evaluate the journey so far, celebrate key milestones, and map out the next frontiers for Nigeria’s digital landscape.

In his opening remarks, the Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer (EVC/CEO) of the NCC, Dr. Aminu Maida, emphasized that the communications sector has evolved from an isolated vertical into a foundational ecosystem. To sustain this growth, Dr. Maida highlighted the urgent need for robust policy frameworks governing emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Satellite Broadband, the Internet of Things (IoT), Critical National Information Infrastructure, Digital Sovereignty, Network Resilience, Sustainable Innovation, and Quality of Experience (QoE).

Citing data from the GSMA, the EVC/CEO noted that the strategic digitization of agriculture, manufacturing, transport, and trade is projected to contribute an additional 2% to Nigeria’s GDP, unlock two million jobs, and generate 1.6 trillion naira tax revenue for the economy. He further stressed that modern regulatory tasks must expand to urgently address Cybersecurity, Data Governance, Digital Financing, and Online Safety.

The technical panel sessions are actively exploring:

• The evolution and legacy of the NTP 2000.
Strategies for bridging the digital divide through collaborative implementation.

• Building a resilient future that balances innovation, security, and trust.

• International telecommunications policy approaches and global best practices.

•Reviewing stakeholder feedback on the Commission's published Policy Proposals.

•Together, we are co-creating a resilient, inclusive, and future-ready digital economy for all Nigerians.
