CHAIRMAN, BAMA RECONSTRUCTION COMMITTEE AND STATE CHAIRMAN, SUB-COMMITTEE ON RESETTLEMENT, VISITS REFUGEE RETURNEES IN BANKI

Today Saturday, 21st March 2026, the Chairman of the Bama Reconstruction Committee and State Chairman of the Sub-Committee on Repatriation , Hon. Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe, paid a visit to refugee returnees in Banki who were recently repatriated from Minawoa Camp, Cameroon, after six weeks of resettlement.

The Chairman was accompanied by the District Head of Banki, Alhaji Mohammed Shehu Umar, Hon. Mohammed Tijjani (Africana), and Hon. Abba Kolo Kumshe, SSA on Security. During the visit, Engr. Wakilbe toured the 450 housing units constructed for the returnees and engaged directly with the beneficiaries to assess their living conditions and identify any challenges they are currently facing.

In his interaction with the returnees, Engr. Wakilbe emphasized the commitment of the Borno State Government, under the leadership of His Excellency, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, to ensure that all promises made regarding their safe return, resettlement, and reintegration are fully honored. He assured them that necessary support systems are being put in place, including the immediate enrollment of their children into schools and the allocation of farmland ahead of the upcoming rainy season to enable them to rebuild their livelihoods.

The returnees expressed deep appreciation for the visit, which came shortly after the Eid celebrations, describing it as timely and reassuring. They conveyed their gratitude to the State Government, particularly His Excellency Governor Zulum, for facilitating their safe and dignified return, providing decent housing, and extending comprehensive resettlement support packages.

They further reaffirmed their determination to rebuild their lives and communities, noting that after years of displacement, they are now ready to move forward and contribute meaningfully to the development of their area.

HONOURABLE COMMISSIONER VISITS DISPLACED NGOSHE STUDENTS AND THEIR PARENTS

Today, Saturday 15th March 2026, the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Hon. Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe, visited Pulka to commiserate with displaced students of Government Day Secondary School (GDSS) Ngoshe, Ngoshe Primary School, and Ngoshe Junior Secondary School who are currently residing in a displacement camp in Pulka.

Upon arrival at the camp, the Commissioner was received by the Chairman of Gwoza Local Government Area, Hon. Abba Kawu Shehu Timta, and the District Head of Ngoshe, Alhaji Aminu Shaibu. He subsequently paid a courtesy visit to the Emir of Gwoza, HRH Alhaji Mohammed Shehu Timta.

While addressing the displaced students, their parents, and members of the community, Engr. Wakilbe expressed deep sympathy over the difficult situation they are facing and encouraged them to remain hopeful. He urged them to take solace in the will of Allah and continue to pray for lasting peace and stability in their community.

The Commissioner assured the displaced families that the government remains committed to supporting them during this challenging period. He explained that if schools resume before the full rehabilitation and resettlement of Ngoshe, the government will relocate all secondary school students to boarding schools in Maiduguri to ensure that their education continues uninterrupted until their schools and community are fully restored.

As part of the Ministry’s support, the Commissioner donated cash, food items, non-food items, clothing, and dignity kits to the displaced students and their families.

He was accompanied on the visit by the Education Secretary of Gwoza Local Government Area, Habila Putaya; the Principal of GDSS Ngoshe, Ibrahim Kasuda; and the Principal of JDSS Ngoshe, Aminu Abubakar.

EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH TO RANN (KALA BALGE LGA), GAMBORU, NGALA, DIKWA, MARTE AND MAFA

The Honourable Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe, carried out a week-long educational outreach across several Local Government Areas of Borno State, including Kala Balge, Ngala, Dikwa, Marte and Mafa.

The outreach was aimed at restoring access to education, re-establishing schools previously closed due to insurgency, and encouraging the return of out-of-school children in affected communities. During the visits, the Commissioner inspected schools, commissioned newly completed facilities and distributed PC computers, digital tablets, dignity kits, books and other learning materials to support teaching and learning across the LGAs visited.

Rann, Kala Balge LGA
In Rann, the Commissioner inspected ongoing schooling activities and visited the construction site of the proposed Government Day Secondary School (GDSS) Rann. He expressed concern over the slow pace of work and directed the contractor to expedite efforts to ensure timely completion of the project. The Commissioner also supported schools in the area with PC computers, digital tablets, dignity kits, books and other learning materials to strengthen the learning environment.

Gamboru and Ngala, Ngala LGA
The visit to Gamboru commenced at Government Secondary School (GSS) Gamboru, where the Commissioner interacted with students and teachers and distributed PC computers, digital tablets, dignity kits, books and other learning materials to enhance ICT-supported learning.

The outreach also covered Gamboru Central School and Ngala Central (Comprehensive Secondary School). GOVERNMENT RE-ESTABLISHES COMPREHENSIVE SECONDARY SCHOOL, NGALA

The Honourable Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe, on Wednesday, 10th March 2026, visited Ngala town where he commissioned the re-established Comprehensive Secondary School, Ngala. The project consists of a fully furnished 20-classroom block equipped with science laboratories and ICT facilities, aimed at improving access to quality secondary education in the area.
The Commissioner was received by the Executive Secretary of Ngala Local Government, Bulama Kole, and the District Head of Ngala, Alhaji Abbakura Kaigama Usman Sandabe, alongside other community leaders and education stakeholders.

While commissioning the school, Engr. Wakilbe called on the community to take full ownership of the facility and ensure its proper utilization and protection. As part of government efforts to promote digital learning, the Commissioner presented 50 personal computers and 50 digital tablets, along with school bags, dignity kits, books, and other learning materials to support teaching and learning in the school.

The Commissioner thereafter proceeded to Rann in Kala Balge Local Government Area, where he inspected ongoing schooling activities and visited the construction site of the proposed Government Day Secondary School (GDSS), Rann. During the inspection, Engr. Wakilbe expressed concern over the slow pace of work and directed the contractor to expedite action to ensure timely completion of the project.

While in Kala Balge, the Commissioner commended the Center for Advocacy, Transparency and Accountability Initiative (CATAI) for its enormous support to education in the area, particularly through the renovation of classrooms and provision of learning materials to schools. GOVERNMENT RE-ESTABLISHES GDSS NEW MARTE AND GARADAI JUNIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL

The Borno State Government has re-established Government Day Secondary School (GDSS) New Marte and Garadai Junior Secondary School in Marte Local Government Area as part of ongoing efforts to restore education in communities affected by insurgency.

On behalf of His Excellency, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, Executive Governor of Borno State, the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe, commissioned a newly constructed and fully equipped block of twenty (20) classrooms at GDSS New Marte, marking the re-establishment of the school after twelve years of closure due to insurgency.

The Commissioner was received in New Marte by the Executive Chairman of Marte Local Government Area, Hon. Babagana Abatcha.

During the visit, Engr. Wakilbe also commissioned a fully furnished block of ten (10) classrooms at Garadai Junior Secondary School, further strengthening access to quality education in the area.

To support the smooth take-off of the schools, the Ministry of Education provided fifty (50) desktop computers, one hundred (100) digital tablets, school uniforms, school bags, textbooks, as well as a daily school feeding programme for the students. In addition, a take-off grant of two million naira (₦2,000,000) was provided to support the operations of the schools. The Commissioner also inspected the ongoing construction of the Higher Islamic College Marte where he assured the community that the project will be completed soon

The Commissioner was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary, Pensions and AGILE Coordinator, Engr. Ibrahim Baba; the Secretary, Borno State Secondary Education Board, Mala Abatch; the Director, Quality Assurance Services, SUBEB, Kachalla Ali; and the Deputy Director, Planning, Ministry of Education, Engr. Abdulrahman Kaka, among other officials.

SCHOOL INSPECTION TOUR TO KAGA LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA

The Honourable Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe, on 9th March 2026 conducted a routine school inspection tour to Kaga Local Government Area as part of ongoing efforts to monitor educational activities and improve learning conditions across the state.

Upon arrival, the Commissioner was received by the Executive Chairman of Kaga LGA, Hon. Zannah Lawan Ajimi, before commencing the inspection at Mainok Primary School and Junior Secondary School. During the visit, Engr. Wakilbe expressed concern over the low level of student enrolment and stressed the importance of stronger community mobilisation to encourage parents to enroll their children in school.

The Commissioner later proceeded to Government Secondary School (GSS) Benisheikh, where he commended the school management and staff for their resilience, commitment, and dedication despite prevailing challenges. He encouraged students to remain focused on their studies and assured them of the Ministry’s continued support, including the provision of computers and science laboratory equipment to enhance learning.

The inspection also covered Adam Mustapha Primary School, Low-Cost Primary and Junior Secondary School, Aisha Buhari Primary and Junior Secondary School, and Damandara School, all located within Benisheikh. During the visit, the Commissioner also inspected the ongoing construction of a 48-classroom Higher Islamic College in Benisheikh, a project aimed at expanding access to quality education in the area.

The tour continued to Makinta Kururi and Tamsu Kawu schools, where Engr. Wakilbe again raised concerns about the low enrolment of pupils and urged community leaders and parents to work collectively in mobilising children to attend school regularly.
