GOVERNOR ZULUM HANDS OVER NEW JAMB ZONAL OFFICE IN MAIDUGURI TO JAMB REGISTRAR/CEO

Borno state government has officially handed over the newly constructed Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Northeast Zonal Office in Maiduguri to the board's outgoing registrar and chief executive, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, alongside the incoming registrar, Professor Segun Aina.

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum presented the facility during a ceremony attended by senior officials of the Borno state government and the JAMB headquarters.

The ultra-modern office complex was completed in just four months and it is expected to enhance JAMB's operations in the region, improve service delivery for candidates and institutions, and further support the development of Nigeria's education sector.

*Building Back Borno Better Through Safe, Inclusive and Resilient Education*

Yesterday, the Borno State Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation with support from malala Fund in partnership with partners successfully hosted the Borno State Education Summit under the theme, "_Strengthening Safe, Inclusive and Gender-Responsive Education: Building Back Borno Better."_

The summit brought together government officials, development partners, education stakeholders, traditional institutions, and community leaders to strengthen collaboration in advancing a resilient, equitable, and future-ready education system for Borno State.

A major highlight of the summit was the reaffirmation by the Honourable Commissioner Hon. Lawan Abba Wakilbe of the Ministry's unwavering commitment to ensuring that every school is safe, secure, and inclusive, providing all children—regardless of gender or background—with access to quality education in a conducive learning environment.

The Honourable Commissioner emphasized that the remarkable progress recorded in the education sector has been made possible through the visionary leadership, steadfast commitment, and sustained investment of the *Executive Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum*, whose administration has placed education at the centre of the state's recovery, reconstruction, and development agenda.

Despite the challenges posed by years of insurgency, Borno State has continued to make remarkable strides in transforming its education sector.

Since 2019, under the leadership of Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, the Ministry has recorded significant milestones, including:

🏫 Construction of 120 new schools, comprising:
• 54 AGILE Type Schools
• 23 Mega Schools with 30 classrooms each
• 20 Higher Islamic Colleges
• 10 Mega Schools with 20 classrooms each
• 8 Mega Schools with 60 classrooms each

SCHOOL SUPERVISION VISIT TO MONGUNO

The Honourable Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe, continued his school supervision tour across Northern Borno with a visit to Monguno Local Government Area. He was accompanied by the Education Secretary of Monguno LGA, Makinta Kolo, the Zonal Deputy Director, Monguno Zone, Bukar Sheriff Kime, and other senior education officials.

The Commissioner commenced the visit with an inspection of the ongoing rehabilitation of Government Science Secondary School, Monguno, a project jointly funded by the Northeast Development Commission (NEDC) and the Borno State Government. Following the inspection, he assured members of the community that the school would be reopened in September 2026 to provide quality secondary education for students in the area.

He subsequently visited Government Day Secondary School (GDSS), Monguno, where he assessed teaching and learning activities. He assured students and staff that the school would soon undergo rehabilitation and be provided with a perimeter fence to improve security and the learning environment.

The Commissioner also inspected the former site of Government Girls Secondary School (GGSS), Monguno, which had previously served as an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp before the resettlement of residents. He expressed concern over the extensive destruction of the school infrastructure, noting that the facilities had been completely damaged, leaving the site as bare land. He, however, announced that the site would be allocated for the construction of a modern model school.

The supervision tour continued to Central Primary School, Jaramari Primary and Junior Secondary School, and Mega Primary and Junior Secondary School, where the Commissioner assessed classroom activities and interacted with teachers and students. HONOURABLE COMMISSIONER CONDUCTS SCHOOL SUPERVISION AND PROJECT INSPECTION TOUR IN GUZAMALA AND KUKAWA LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREAS

The Honourable Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Borno State, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe, continued his school supervision and project inspection tour with a visit to Mairari Town in Guzamala Local Government Area. Upon arrival, he was received by the Education Secretary of Guzamala Local Government Area, Babagana Bulama.

The Commissioner inspected Mairari Central Primary School, where rehabilitation works had previously been undertaken by the Borno State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and the Adolescent Girls' Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project before the facilities were later vandalized. Following the inspection, he directed that the school be rehabilitated once again to restore learning facilities and facilitate the provision of educational and other essential social services for the resettled communities in Mairari.

The inspection team thereafter proceeded to Baga in Kukawa Local Government Area, where they were received by the Executive Chairman of Kukawa Local Government Area, Hon. Mustapha Mohammed Kukawa, and the Education Secretary, Associate Professor Kaltum Ali.

As part of the visit, the Honourable Commissioner paid a courtesy call on the Commander, 403 Amphibious Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brigadier General A.E. Ozemhoya, in Baga.

The Commissioner commenced his inspection with the ongoing rehabilitation of the former Government Girls' Secondary School (GGSS), Baga, which is being converted into Government Day Secondary School (GDSS), Baga. He commended the contractor for the quality and pace of work and directed that the project be completed in time for the school to commence academic activities in the first term of the 2026/2027 academic session.
