Alhamdulillah
It is with profound gratitude and mixed emotions today that I handed over the mantle of leadership as Speaker of the Yobe State Children’s Parliament. When I assumed this role two years ago, I sat here with dreams of giving voice to the children of Yobe State, and today, I sat proud of what we have collectively achieved.
During our tenure, we have worked tirelessly and advocate to advance the rights and welfare of children across our beloved state. Together, we faced numerous challenges, but our resilience and determination enabled us to overcome them.
We participated in various programs and engagements, fostering a culture of active citizenship and advocacy for children’s rights, at the state level, National and international. Such as;
-The commemoration of days, radio programs virtual dialogues, press briefings, lunching of reports and campaigns on Education, climate change and ending early child marriage. Also the participation at the high level conferences and round table discussions in Switzerland and Senegal is a great achievement.
Our efforts led to significant milestones, most notably the signing of the Child Protection Law by the Governor his excellency hon, Maimala buni, into Yobe State Law.¹ And the establishment of a committee to ensure the full implementation of the Child Protection Law is also a testament to our commitment to safeguarding the well-being of children in Yobe State.
The dedication of my fellow parliamentarians. And their commitment to serving our young constituents has been nothing short of inspiring.
This achievements wouldn’t have been possible without the unwavering support of our mother Ministry, the Ministry of Women Affairs and the State Government, they have always been a home that cater for us, listened to us whenever we speak and took it seriously.
I extend my deepest appreciation to Save the Children International for creating, and supporting our platform, engaging us through all the events throughout my tenure. Thank you for believing in our cause and empowering us to create lasting change for children of Yobe state.
I must also express my sincere appreciation to:
Relevant ministries; Ministry of youth and sport, Ministry of justice Ministry Of Education and the Ministry of information
-The Yobe state house of assembly and the parliamentary staff who worked behind the scenes and beyond schedules.
- stakeholders and other development partners for their technical assistance
- Our parents, guardians and Teachers who supported our dreams
- And most importantly, the children of Yobe State who trusted us to represent them
To our successors, I say congratulations. You are inheriting not just an office, but a sacred responsibility to be the voice of the voiceless. The children of Yobe State look up to you with hope and expectations. I have full confidence in all of you, and your abilities to take this parliament to greater heights.
I urge you to:
1. Always put the interests of Yobe children first
2. Maintain the dignity of your offices
3. Continue building on our achievements
4. Foster unity among all children regardless of background
5. Stay committed to our core values of integrity, service, and excellence
Though I may be stepping down as Speaker, but my commitment to serving the children of Yobe State remains unwavering. I will continue to support this parliament and its noble objectives in whatever capacity I can.
Finally, to the children of Yobe State: continue to dream big, speak up for your rights, and believe in your ability to create positive change. The future belongs to you.
Thank you, and God bless Yobe State.
