Zulum: With gratitude from Monguno

The last time I wrote it was “Zulum: with gratitude from London.” That was when His Excellency Professor Zulum sponsored my master's degree at one of the prestigious Universities in London, UK.

Precisely after a year and 4 months while in London for the graduation ceremony after successfully completing my master's degree, Zulum graciously approved my appointment and elevated me from SA to SSA on New Media.

As if all these favours were not enough, yesterday, when I was in Monguno, Zulum elevated me with added responsibilities from Senior Special Assistant on New Media to Senior Technical Assistant on Print and Digital Communications. How do I then begin to thank you, your Excellency?

First, I must express my gratitude to the Almighty Allah for the bounties and favours throughout my life.

Your Excellency, I must confess that your generosity and the privilege you have accorded me have humbled me. I do not have a word that can truly express how grateful I am to you.

To everyone who supported me directly or indirectly, I thank you all. May Allah reward you.

Lastly, my associates and well wishes, either on the social media platform, those who sent a text message, or those who made a phone call. I deeply appreciate you, and thank you for your well wishes and prayers.

Hey! Let Zulum Shine again, Next Week Monday to Thursday

By Abdurrahman Ahmed Bundi

Since 2019, Borno’s Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has executed more than 1,238 capital projects across the 27 local government areas of the state.

Among these were the three mega-secondary schools commissioned by the World Bank Country Director, Dr. Ndiame Diop, and the 1.2 km Shehu Abubakar Garbai Express Way, Borno Express Flyover, Metro Housing (Kashim Shettima Estate), and Njimtilo 500 Housing Units (Mai Mala Buni Estate), all commissioned by the Governor of Yobe State last week.

We have been diligently planning a comprehensive multimedia campaign to showcase 7 (Seven) of Zulum’s recently commissioned projects.

Some may think that this is unusual, considering that it is coming a week after the projects were commissioned. However, it was strategically and deliberately planned to allow the mainstream media hype on the projects fizzle out first, before we “take over” the social media. Our aim is to bombard all social media platforms with Zulum’s recently commissioned landmark projects.

To all our social media associates, let me borrow from my late boss, Mallam Isa Gusau, who usually says, “Hey guys, you are all familiar with how we operate.” We will be agog on social media for four (4) days in a syndicate style to circulate Zulum’s seven (7) recently produced multimedia promotional content on social media and other online and digital platforms.

Our syndicated content circulation will insha’Allah start on Monday, December 16, 2024, and end on Thursday, December 19, 2024.

I want to use this medium to request for the participation of EVERYONE to showcase the incredible achievements of our Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum as the Governor of Borno State.

Zulum is a recipient of several awards for his outstanding achievements, including the Forbes Magazine African Leadership Award 2024, the African Governor of the Year Award (Education and People Development Category) 2023 by the African Leadership Magazine, and the Exemplary Leadership Award 2023 by Naija Diaspora Magazine.

He was conferred with Nigeria’s national honour as Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2022 and also a recipient of the Republic of Niger’s Second Order of National Honour, “de Grand Officer Dans I`Ordre” in 2021, which is the equivalent of Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger, GCON, in Nigeria’s ranking of national honours. He is a hero and leader worth celebrating and we have to do it, once again, in grand style.

Borno: Zulum begins first North’s rail network

Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, is set to construct an intra-city rail network to connect Maiduguri and its environs. This is the first of such project by any of Nigeria’s 19 northern state governments.

The first phase of the project will commence with 12 designated terminals within Maiduguri, to connect major markets, schools, other public places and economically viable locations.

The project, which could be expanded to cover local government areas in the future, will facilitate the seamless movement of passengers and goods, and open up economic activities and corridors across the state.

Inspecting the proposed take-off rail terminals and routes with the implementation partner, Eighteenth Engineering Company (EEC), Borno’s Commissioner for Transport and Energy, Aliyu Mohammed Bamanga, noted that feasibility studies, environmental risk assessment (ERA) and community consultations are underway to ensure the successful implementation of the novel project.

The commissioner further stated that when completed, the project will ease transportation, revitalise the economy, create jobs and re-engineer the city’s transportation network.

Zulum’s innovative intra-city rail project will not only be an alternative cost-effective means of transport for the people, it will be energy efficient and environmentally friendly and will support other ongoing transport infrastructural projects, including the 113-kilometre Maiduguri East, West and South ring roads expansion, which will link Auno, Molai, Polo and Shagari low-cost communities.

Zulum’s administration has previously commissioned electric and gas powered taxis and buses, at subsidised rates for residents of Maiduguri to cushion the ripple effects from the rise in transportation and living costs, following the fuel subsidy removal.

He has also embarked on various urban and rural infrastructure projects across the state. Zulum’s commitment to infrastructural development in Borno is part of a larger strategy to restore peace and prosperity to the state after the effects of the over one decade long Boko Haram insurgency.
