NATIONAL TRAINING PROGRAM, SKILLS ACQUISITION AND EMPOWERMENT FOR IDP WIDOWS/DIVORCEES IN FCT ABUJA, 18th OCTOBER, 2019.
Within the framework of the Sustainable Livelihood Support Program for IDP’s, the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons collaborated with the AWACIO and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in organizing a training for IDP widows/divorcees in FCT Abuja on Friday, the 18th of October, 2019.
In attendance were, the Hon. Federal Commissioner, NCFRMI, Sen. Basheer Garba Muhammed, Dr. Claudia Okeke, the CEO of AWACIO, the Hon. Minister for Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development (FMHADMSD), Sadiya Umar Farouk, His excellency, Dr. Fahad Al-Taffaq (UAE Ambassador to Nigeria) and the DD (IDP’s-NCFRMI) to mention a few.
In his opening remark, the Hon. Federal Commissioner (NCFRMI) stated that “Consequently, the commission is into providing training of 65 IDP’s inclusive of widows from different camps within the Federal Capital Territory and the provision of starter packs to these women upon completion”.
In addition, he said it is hoped that at the end of the 40 days training, these women will have been equipped with the skills that will shift them from dependency to self-reliance as well as intensify their role in the economic development of the country.
To declare the event close, the DD (IDP’s-NCFRMI), expressed the Commission’s profound appreciation to the embassy of the UAE in Nigeria for this laudable initiative by supporting 100 women and also widows to becoming economically empowered.
She also thanked the Hon. Minister (FMHADMSD) for her commitment and lastly, the Hon. Federal Commissioner (NCFRMI) for his support in driving the process.
