It's with great honour and pleasure as I urge our youths (Kogi Central) who participated in the recent paramilitary recruitment exercise (NIS, NSCDC, NCOS, FFS) which just ended some days ago to submit your internet printouts for further processing.

The submission of the printouts will enable me to properly facilitate and follow-up on the recruitment process, ensuring that Kogi Central applicants receive the necessary support.

I wish to further encourage the youths to take advantage of the opportunity. The initiative is aimed at assisting us in securing meaningful employment to our teeming unemployed youths.

Yesterday, I proudly marked my ballot in my polling unit in Lafia Obesa Ward of Okene Local Government for Ododo/Joel. With unwavering optimism, I believed that the All Progressive Congress (APC) would emerge victorious. The results from polling units and wards across Kogi State have been encouraging, revealing the people's genuine desire for the State's progress and prosperity.

My fellow esteemed Kogi Central People,

It is with deep sense of humility that I address you today on the recent development as regards the Appeal Court judgement that nullified my election as a Senator representing our Senatorial District. While this outcome may be difficult for many of you who have placed your unwavering trust and belief in my vision/capacity for progress and development, I accept this judgement with complete submission to the will of God! I therefore congratulate the winner.

I understand that this news may come as a disappointment to those who had hoped for my continued service, but in the face of adversity, it is essential that we reflect upon the accomplishments we have achieved during my short but very impactful stay in the Nigerian Senate. Together, we have set records and achieved remarkable feats within the confines of a short time period. Through the introduction of crucial motions and the proposal of impactful bills, our collective efforts have been dedicated to the betterment of Nigeria, Kogi State, and specifically the development of Kogi Central. Our commitment to touching lives through skills acquisitions, medical care, educational empowerment, and various other initiatives has left an indelible mark on our beloved community.

I am truly grateful for the love you have shown me and for the votes you casted in my favor. It is because of your unwavering support and belief in me that I have found the strength and determination to serve you diligently. Although circumstances have led to the end of my time in the Senate, I can unequivocally say that I leave this position with a sense of profound fulfillment and satisfaction. I implore each and every one of you to embrace this spirit of fulfillment, for our journey does not end with a single setback.

In this moment, I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation to my leader, His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, CON for his quintessential leadership, guidance at all times and mentorship. Your unwavering support has been instrumental in my growth and development as a leader. It is through your visionary leadership that we have made significant strides in transforming Kogi state and the Central Senatorial district in particular, and for that, I am eternally grateful.

Let us remain united as the strong and steadfast community of people that we have always been. Together, we can overcome any adversity and continue to push for the progress and prosperity of Kogi Central. Our bond transcends any political position or title; it is a testament to our shared values, dreams, and aspirations.

Thank you, dear Kogi Central people, for your unwavering support. While my time in the Senate may have come to a close, my commitment to our community remains steadfast. Together, we will forge ahead, leaving an indomitable legacy for future generations.

Finally, remember the spirit of consolidation and continuity we are currently advocating for. On November 11th, 2023, vote massively for Alh. Ododo Ahmed USMAN to ensure this ideal.

As Representatives of the people, we are duty bound to feel and transmit the pulses of our constituents to the relevant authorities. We are to profer solutions to the challenges facing our people and ensure their condition is alleviated.

The menace of flooding natural disaster usually occasioned by heavy downpour; variation in climate and dam release from neighbouring countries, is no longer a news in Nigeria as the nation recently suffered the worst hit in 2022 after that of 2012. States like Jigawa; Adamawa; Anambra; Kano; Niger and of course Kogi suffered a hard hit.

Kogi being a mini Nigeria and the confluence State where River and Benue met at the State capital suffered the most, with Lokoja and about 9 other Local Governments in our dear state gravely affected. Riverine dwellers were displaced in their thousands with their communities submerged; ships capsized with precious lives painfully lost; houses, crops and livestock were destroyed. People's livelihood and hope were dashed with many yet to recover from the shock till date.

Today on the floor of the Senate, I had the opportunity of advocating for a wholistic action at curtailing the negative impacts of this perennial flooding, by Federal Government of Nigeria while making a salient contribution to a motion raised on the floor of the Senate on the negative impact of flooding across the country by my Distinguished Colleague, Sen. Gbenga Daniel who called on the Federal Government to as a matter of proactiveness look at measures aimed at reducing the impact of the reoccurring disaster in the country.

As a nation prides herself as the Giant of Africa, it is high time we raised the bar by becoming proactive than reactive on such issues. Seeking a long lasting wholistic solution is long overdue and that would include dredging, building of dams and canals where necessary across the country.

Recall, the dredging of River Niger flagged off by late President Umaru Musa Yar'adua in 2009 met a stiff halt till date. And that dredging project if completed would have made our waterways navigable so as to enhance economic activities; reduce transportation burden on highways; minimise road mishaps and loss of lives and properties; and create employment for our teeming youth which will improve the livelihood of the citizens of Kogi State and Nigeria at large.

It is also pertinent to note that aside the usual orientation by the relevant agency the issues of flooding has gone beyond the palliatives with States not able to handle the impact, I beseeched the Senate to compel the Federal Government to take proactive steps that would bring the perennial flooding menace in the country to its knee.

To the glory of God Almighty, yours sincerely recorded the first motion to have been moved by the 10th Senate yesterday. The motion seeks for the revitalization of Ajaokuta Steel Company. As an Engineer, I have no iota of doubt that when operational, the Steel Company would curb incessant building collapse, provide employment and reposition the country for much needed technological advancement.

Thank you all my dear Constituents for trusting us with this mandate. We will strive to ensure you get a justified representation.

Yesterday On The Floor Of Senate. Nigeria First!

THE AUDACITY OF HOPE:

I, Sen. Engr. Abubakar Ohere representing the good people of KOGI CENTRAL SENATORIAL DISTRICT moved my first motion on the floor of the Senate today. It bothers on the urgent need to curb the incessant cases of building collapse, bridges, roads, and other critical structural failures in Nigeria.

Adopted measures include strengthening of supervisory agencies, affordable and quality reinforcement materials such as iron rods, skilled manpower development, and above all, the resuscitation of Ajaokuta steel company to fill the gap in local demand for steel, provide employment, and critical foundations for the country’s industrialization. Savings from the oil subsidy removal are to be reinvested in Ajaokuta.

The Senate today, also approved a special six-man committee where Sen. Abdul Ningi is to chair the committee to investigate the long delay in the completion of the famous East-West Roads contract awarded for over two decades now.

I’m happy to announce to you that I am a member of the special Adhoc committee constituted today to carry out the task. Congratulations to all of us.
I’m most grateful to the leadership of the Senate for this consideration.
