LAGOS TURNS ALAUSA PURPLE TO DRIVE AWARENESS ON DOMESTIC AND SEXUAL VIOLENCE
The Lagos State Government, under the leadership of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed its commitment to preventing Sexual and Gender-Based Violence, supporting survivors and strengthening access to justice and essential services.
As part of activities marking the 2026 Domestic and Sexual Violence Awareness Month, the Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro, joined the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) to champion the “Turn Alausa Purple” campaign.
The initiative aims to draw attention to the realities of SGBV and encourage collective responsibility in preventing abuse and supporting survivors.
Speaking on the campaign, Agoro said the fight against SGBV requires the involvement of everyone, noting that public servants have an important role to play in creating safer communities.
He said, “Turning Alausa purple is more than illuminating our offices and public spaces. It is a statement that we recognise the problem, we care about those affected and we are committed to creating an environment where everyone feels safe and protected.”
The Executive Secretary of DSVA, Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, said the initiative goes beyond the colour purple, noting that it is intended to spark conversations and inspire action.
“We want the purple in Alausa to be more than a colour. We want it to remind everyone who sees it that Domestic and Sexual Violence is real, it affects people around us, and we all have a role to play in preventing it,” she said.
The Agency also appreciates the partnership of the Office of Sustainable Development Goals and the Lagos State Health Management Agency towards the successful implementation of the campaign.
Turn Alausa Purple reinforces Lagos State’s commitment to building safer homes and communities where survivors are supported and everyone is encouraged to speak up against abuse.
