Earlier today, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, Mrs. Kikelomo Bolarinwa, represented by the Director of Boundary Matters, Mr. Shamsideen Seriki, addressed Traditional Rulers, Council Executives, indigenes of communities, and other stakeholders in the Badagry axis of Lagos State during an Advocacy and Sensitisation Campaign on Boundary Matters.
Speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary emphasised the importance of maintaining peace, harmony, and cordial relationships among neighbouring communities in the resolution of boundary disputes. She noted that while boundary disagreements may arise due to historical, geographical, or administrative factors, such disputes should never degenerate into violence or threaten the peaceful coexistence of communities.
Bolarinwa reiterated that dialogue, consultation, mediation, arbitration, and adherence to established legal procedures remain the most effective means of resolving boundary-related issues. According to her, peaceful resolution mechanisms not only preserve lives and property but also foster unity, mutual understanding, and sustainable development within affected communities.
She further assured participants that the Lagos State Government would continue to adopt proactive measures aimed at resolving boundary disputes amicably while ensuring that the legitimate rights and interests of all stakeholders are protected. The Permanent Secretary urged community leaders and residents to place the peace and stability of the State and the nation above personal or communal interests while pursuing their claims and rights.
The advocacy and sensitisation meeting was attended by His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Abraham Olatunji Adebowale Ogabi, the Ajagun of Imeke-Awori Kingdom; His Royal Majesty, Aholu Said Temitope Samson, the Aholu of Ajido Kingdom; the Executive Chairmen of Badagry Local Government and Olorunda LCDA, represented by their Vice Chairmen, Alhaji Akeem Adeyemi and Honourable Bolaji Adele Solomon, respectively; the Supervisor for Environment, Badagry Local Government, Honourable Rabiu Busari; Baales and Chiefs from various communities across Badagry; as well as officials of the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development.
The sensitisation campaign forms part of the State Government's continuous efforts to promote peaceful coexistence, strengthen community relations, and enhance public awareness on the importance of constructive engagement in the resolution of boundary matters.
