VGN WILL COMPLEMENT, NOT COMPETE WITH, STATUTORY SECURITY AGENCIES, SAYS COMMANDER GENERAL
The Commander General of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), Otunba James Udoma, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Group to supporting Nigeria’s national security architecture through lawful, disciplined and responsible community engagement.
Speaking on the future direction of the organisation, the Commander General stated that VGN must complement, not compete with, sister statutory security agencies, while respecting their constitutional and statutory responsibilities.
According to him, VGN’s role is to support national security through lawful community engagements, strengthen the flow of credible grassroots information and provide responsible community support to relevant security authorities.
He further stated that the Group is positioning itself for a new era of discipline, professionalism and accountability, with particular emphasis on constructive collaboration with statutory security agencies and communities across the country.
The Commander General also affirmed VGN’s readiness to provide lawful security support during the 2027 general elections, in accordance with applicable laws and directives of the competent authorities.
“Our grassroots presence must become a responsible additional source of credible information and community support within the national security architecture. VGN is committed to prevention, lawful intervention and support within the limits of the law,” Otunba Udoma stated.
He called on sister security agencies to strengthen their relationship and channels of cooperation with VGN, stressing that effective security requires collaboration, mutual respect and clear understanding of institutional responsibilities.
The Commander General also appealed to the media to partner with VGN in building public confidence, promoting responsible security awareness and communicating accurate information to the Nigerian public.
He called on Nigerians to make peace, security and national unity a shared responsibility, urging citizens to provide credible information to appropriate authorities and support lawful efforts to protect their communities.
“VGN stands ready to contribute its strength, grassroots reach and community presence to the collective effort to keep Nigeria safe, peaceful and united,” the Commander General declared.
