The Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) says platform workers and the gig economy are receiving priority attention as the world of work evolves with Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Speaking at the 114th Session of the International Labour Conference in Geneva, NSITF Managing Director, Mr Oluwaseun Faleye, said the Fund is focused on understanding the impact of AI on workers and developing appropriate support systems for those engaged in platform-based and remote work.
Faleye noted that emerging work models, including ride-hailing and home-based digital jobs, require new approaches to workplace protection, compensation and social insurance. He said NSITF is exploring ways to define workplace injuries and workers’ rights within the growing gig economy.
He also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for establishing the Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, describing it as a critical step towards ensuring Nigeria remains competitive in the rapidly evolving digital workplace.
