Snapchat Valued at $10 Billion in Latest Investment

Snapchat's valuation is reportedly on the rise yet again after a report emerged on Tuesday that the photo messaging company is raising new funds. The talks, according to Dow Jones, would value Snapchat at $10 billion.

The investor is Kleiner Perkins, a Silicon Valley venture capital firm that has invested in a variety of successful tech companies including Amazon, WebMD and Zynga.

The report also noted that Snapchat now has 100 million monthly active users, a number that would rival some of the smaller social networks like Tumblr. Facebook paid $16 billion for WhatsApp, which recently revealed it has more than 600 million active users.

Snapchat has attracted no shortage of suitors. Alibaba had reportedly also been in talks to make an investment in Snapchat at a $10 billion valuation. However, those talks fell through. Snapchat also rejected a $3 billion acquisition offer from Mark Zuckerberg.

Snapchat spokesperson Mary Ritti told Mashable: "The valuation of our business and our capital requirements are the least exciting aspects of supporting the Snapchat community. We have no further comment at this time."

Snapchat, a messaging app that deletes content 10 seconds after it is received, has grown into one of the most popular applications among young adults. A recent study found that college students use Snapchat more often than Facebook.

The company has already raised $163 million in funding, not counting the reported Kleiner Perkins round. Its previous investors include Lightspeed Venture Partners, SV Angel and Chinese Internet portal Tencent.
