MY VISION AND MISSION FOR KEFFI LOCAL GOVERNMENT
From: Ahmadu Ladan Kambari
To: The People of Keffi
MY PROFILE
With sincere humility and greatest sense of responsibility, may I introduce myself to you so that you may know why I have this burning compulsion to offer myself and commit my vast experience, considerable exposure and youthful energy to the service of Keffians.
THE MAN AHMADU LADAN KAMBARI
Born in Keffi on 24th February, 1973 Ahmad's rise to the top echelon of the politics has been nothing short of meteoric. This simple man with a very humble beginning had his early education at Government Teachers College, Keffi where he demonstrated outstanding academic excellence. Ahmadu Ladan Kambari, an unassuming and quiet philanthropist, a grass-root mobilizer, a consensus builder and a consummate political strategist. He is easily at home with both the nobles and the ordinary folks even as he is ever quick to identify with the later as his primary constituency and, in his own words, the focus of his foray into politics. His love for the people and desire to improve the lives of the down-trodden even at the risk of his personal and political interests mark him out as a politician of a different ilk. Besides attending many prestigious institutions and working as a lecturer in Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa, he holds an MSc. in Accounting from the Nasarawa State University, Keffi. He has built a distinguished career in community development through the famous Keffi Youth Reform Forum.
In Ahmadu Ladan Kambari, the good people of Keffi are being presented a leader with very rare combination of attributes young but vastly experienced, dynamic, purposeful and a team player. He is result-oriented, an out-and-out grass root person but with very wide vertical and horizontal reach. But beyond all these, the people of Keffi will find in Hon. Ahmadu Ladan Kambari that youthful, up-to-date leader who despite his obvious sophistication in contemporary politics, still retains the common touch - the human element. He shares genuine comradeship with the youths and the masses. He feels their pains, shares their hopes and will address their needs. He is a credible alternative. He has promised to take a new direction with a fresh approach. His government, if voted in, shall be a government of the people and for the People. He is the change we need; a voice we deserve and a Leader who listens.
MY VISION
I have the vision of re-establishing Keffi through promptly responding to the crucial identified needs of people of Keffi, and ensuring that the problem of basic infrastructures in the communities is reduced to the bearest minimum or becomes a thing of the past.
MY MISSION
My mission is to build a future together for our children, our community and our society predicated on harnessing the vibrancy and energy of our youths, the experience and know-how of our elders and the industry and unifying grace of our women by embarking on the following activities/projects highlighted below:
1. SECURITY: I understand that safety and security are the most important responsibilities of government. I will take this as top priority because without a secured environment, without our people living peacefully as brothers and sisters, no meaningful development can take place. I will work with relevant authorities including the transitional institutions, youths organizations, faith based organizations, etc to ensure we proactively resolve disputes before they escalate. Therefore, if voted into power, I shall:
i. Enhance cooperation with all the security agencies in the state with a view to achieving substantial reduction in crimes
ii. Improve the activities, model and operations of the VGN by provision of logistics
iii. Ensure that the local government Vigilante services while maintaining its necessary independent identity fits its operation within the framework of the conventional security bodies for more effective operations.
2. EDUCATION: With good schools, our kids can acquire knowledge and skills that will keep them gainfully employed and competitive in life. My objective will be to invest heavily in education from the very primary, laying the needed foundation for lifelong learning. We will train and retrain teachers because the quality of education cannot raise above the standard of her teachers, renovate schools to meet the contemporary digital standard and give special attention to the physically challenged and technical education. I shall also:
i. Subsidize the cost of education in the local government owned schools to reduce the burden on parents and guardian.
ii. Renovate some of the dilapidated classrooms
iii. Ensure that schools/teachers are provided with working tools.
iv. Promote sporting activities among pupils in order to keep them healthy
v. Distribute free GCE and JAMB forms to brilliant and indigent students in the council including tutorial classes for the lucky candidates
3. HEALTH: Health, they say is wealth. Without good health, nobody can do anything. Thus, my objective will be to improve healthcare accessibility and standard in the rural and urban areas to completely eradicate infant and maternal mortality rate. We'll equip our primary healthcare centers and above all ensure only qualified hands will man all the health facilities in the local government. My government shall also:
i. Revitalize the Primary Healthcare Services by making it the bedrock of our health policies in the local government, starting from the Wards Levels.
ii. Establish primary healthcare centers in wards that none exist.
iii. Subsidize the cost of primary health care in the local government
iv. Reorganize the local primary Healthcare system with emphasis on refurbishing and restructuring of our clinics to make them more responsive to contemporary challenges
4. AGRICULTURE: Before the oil boom in the 70s, agriculture was the mainstay of Nigeria's economy. So many third world countries like ours that have left us behind today like Malaysia never got carried away by oil but devoted their national resources to agriculture. Our government will complement the agricultural revolution in the state led by Engr. A. A. Sule, by pulling our people from subsistence to commercial agriculture. As a matter of priority, we shall:
i. Create enabling environment for both farmers and investors in the agric sector
ii. Assist rural farmers to get loans through cooperative societies
iii. Introduce Graduates Agricultural Scheme to encourage youths towards taking up farming as a viable means of self actualization
iv. Collaborate with the private sector who shall organize periodic trainings on modern agric techniques
v. Liaise with State Government on order to make fertilizer and other farm inputs available to our local farmers.
5. YOUTH/WOMEN EMPOWERMENT/JOB CREATION: Unemployment anywhere in the world is one of the greatest security risks. We cannot talk about developing our local government without having our youths gainfully employed. We will prioritize youth empowerment and job creation.
i. Our government will create the necessary environment ior our youths/women to be viable and interested in owning their own small businesses.
ii. Organize and sponsor youths for skill acquisition and in the process creates job.
iii. Provide opportunities to acquire Entrepreneurial skills and increase capacity of the youths/Women through training and re-training.
iv. Collaborate with Banks who shall provide soft loans to enable our youths and women to own their businesses.
v. To promote comprehensive youths sports activities in the local government in order to widen career opportunities and positively channel their energies away from vices.
6. INFRASTRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENT: On infrastructure, my team and I will get the best surveyors to give us the land mass of Keffi, which we will come up with a sophisticated infrastructural development. One of the major undoing in Nigeria today is poor maintenance culture. The biggest challenges Keffi is facing today, is our roads and drainages are in bad shape. Therefore, attention would be given to our local roads in making them good enough for vehicular movements. Our administration will prioritize maintenance of existing roads. Road infrastructure is one of the most important infrastructures in development.
i. Repairs of both urban and rural roads and water channels to ease movements of people
ii. Reduce flooding by establishing drainage systems in the major communities which drastically reduces erosion problem
iii. Engage local government staff, road sweepers and sewage disposers to clear gutters and streets of polythene bags, bins and other wastes.
iv. Create agencies and programmes to inform people of the effect of randomly disposal of refuse
7. REVENUE MOBILIZATION: Financial resources constitute the backbone of every Government and organization. No meaningful development of the local Government can be executed without the necessary financial resource. Therefore, new sources of revenue generation will be initiated to mobilize funds for the ex*****on of visionary projects. I will re-engineer Keffi and embark on an internal revenue generation drive that will improve our IGR and make us depend less on monthly allocations through a cost effective plan.
8. WORKERS WELFARE: Staff welfare, motivation and better condition of service would be our priority in order to give council workers a sense of belonging. Therefore, my administration shall:
i. Liaise with the state government to ensure that salary arrears and entitlements are paid.
ii. We will strategize and partner the government to ensure better welfare package and condition of work.
9. TRADITIONAL INSTITUTION: Traditional rulers have now earned their place from been custodians of our culture to mediators in many aspects of national life. They are now arbiters in so many different ways, in security and justice at the local level and even politically. If next voted into power, I shall:
i. I will always collaborate and liaise with the emirate council on security matters.
ii. Involve the emirate council in the distribution of fertilisers and other farming inputs.
iii. My administration will domesticate them in their domains for the benefit of their people.
iv. Carry them along to accomplish our development projects that will be of benefit to the entire community.
v. Continue to engage them in the settlement and resolution of intra and inter communal feuds.
vi. Canvass for more roles and power for them in order to shape their political and socio-economic landscape to suit the wishes of the people at the grassroots level.
vii. Shall from time to time be organizing seminars and training programmes like workshop for leaders and development of skills.
10. SPORTS: No doubt, sports bring people together and provide them the opportunities for social interaction and helps shape our national character and pride. Moreover, sports create employment opportunities and also develop life skills and leadership abilities.
i. My administration shall sustain the annual football competition in Keffi local government as a step towards fostering unity among the ten (10) wards that make up the council area.
ii. We shall also introduce other sporting events like, basketball order to...
These will be the focal points of my administration. However, we will be ready to engage stakeholders and the people on other basic needs of our people that our resources can carter for.
MY COVENANT
This is my blueprint which I believe will translates to a better Keffi Local Government Area and her people as it answers all the development questions which would leave Keffi fully developed. By Gods enabling grace, I will serve the people of Keffi local government to the very best of my ability with particular focus on Poverty Eradication and bringing back smiles to the faces of the long-suffering masses of our greatly endowed local government, replacing Poverty with Prosperity.
I want to be judged by the improved level of security of life and property; the number of youths trained and empowered; the level of additional infrastructural development; the extent and quality of healthcare afforded the elderly, the infants and the rural people throughout the length and breadth of Keffi local government.
I want to be assessed by the degree of improvement in the volume/scope and status of Keffi as the Gateway to the Nation's Capital and also the seamless and inclusive leadership with traditional rulers.
Let my stewardship be evaluated based on the general welfare of Local government civil servants, traders and other citizens, and the overall remarkable improvement in every other sector if given the privilege to serve.
This is my Covenant with the good people of Keffi local government. God willing, it shall come to pass.
Signed:
Hon. Ahmadu Ladan Kambari
Your Humble Servant
