The House Committee on the North-West Development Commission (NWDC), led by its Chairman, Hon. Suleiman Abubakar Gumi, yesterday carried out a comprehensive oversight visit to the Commissionโs headquarters in Kano, which is currently undergoing renovation.
The delegation, which included members of the Committee and the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (North-West), Hon. Abdullahi Yakasai Tanko, inspected the ongoing works and assessed the level of progress achieved.
Hon. Gumi expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of work, noting that the renovation project is nearing completion. He commended the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Commission, Prof. Shehu Abdullahi Maaji, for his commitment to delivering a befitting headquarters that reflects the Commissionโs development mandate.
The Committee further acknowledged the pivotal support of the Deputy President of the Senate, Sen. Barau I. Jibrin, CON, for facilitating funding for the renovation project, describing his role as a clear demonstration of exemplary leadership and dedication to the advancement of the North-West region.
A major highlight of the visit was the formal acceptance of a donation of solar power systems by Fidelity Bank Plc, which will be installed at the headquarters to ensure reliable and sustainable energy supply. The Committee commended this gesture as an example of meaningful private sector collaboration in regional development.
Hon. Gumi also appreciated the contributions of philanthropists and stakeholders whose generous donations have supported the establishment and smooth take-off of the Commission. He reaffirmed that the NWDC belongs to all stakeholders in the region and called for continued partnership and collective commitment to its mission.
The oversight team also inspected other strategic assets and facilities, including the BUA site, the Commissionโs permanent office location, vehicles donated by the Kano State Government, and ICT equipment provided by various partners. These interventions, the Committee noted, will significantly enhance the Commissionโs operational efficiency and ability to deliver on its mandate.
The North-West Development Commission remains steadfast in its commitment to fast-tracking socio-economic transformation across the region, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubuโs Renewed Hope Agenda.
