Kano state Government says training and retraining of local government officials would continue to receive special attention for the overall interest of the residents across the 44 local government areas of the state.

The state Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam disclosed this at a two day workshop organized by the state ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs on operational guidelines for Kano state Local Government Interim management officers and other key players in kaduna.

Declaring the workshop opened the Deputy Governor said the participants were carefully selected from various local government areas of the state based on confidence the government has on them that at the end of the exercise their productivity would be improved.

Aminu Abdussalam noted that the state government under their watch would continue to remain committed on the task of training and retraining of critical stakeholders with a view to achieve sustainable development especially at the grassroots.

While commending organizers for their well packaged exercise, the Deputy Governor emphasized the need for harmonious working relationship within the interim management committee members for the overall interest of their respective areas.

Earlier in an address, the Permanent Secretary of State ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Ibrahim Muhammad Kabara commended the state government for approving and financing the programme.

Ibrahim Muhammad kabara further enjoined participants to pay attention on what will be thought throughout the session and ensure that lessons learned were cascaded to grassroots.

In a paper titled the Importance of Cordial Working Relationship and Synergies between the Local Government Councils MDAs,CBOs and NGOs towards the implementation of 2024 ministry for Local Government operational guidelines presented by Muhammad Maharaz Karaye reiterated the importance of synergy between the various departments in the local government.

Flood has destroyed over 5, 300 houses in six Local Government Areas of Kano State.

The Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Relief and Rehabilitation Agency (SERERA), Alhaji Aliyu Bashir disclosed this in an interview with the Newsmen in Kano on Monday.
He said the affected local government areas include Bebeji, Dawakin Kudu, Kiru, Shanono, Bagwai and Garun-Malam.
“In Dawakin Kudu alone more than 2, 300 houses were affected, while more than 600 houses in each of the remaining five areas were destroyed by the flood,” he said.
Bashir said the officials of the agency had visited all the affected areas with a view to assessing the damage cause by the disaster.
“At the moment we are compiling a comprehensive report on the disaster for onward submission to the Federal and state governments for necessary assistance to the victims,” he said.
The Executive Secretary said that the state government would come to the aid of the victims as an interim measure as soon as the agency submit its report
If you recalls last week three persons lost their lives while food and cash crops worth millions of Naira were washed away after a heavy down pour at Hayin Gwarmai village in Bebeji Local Government Area of the state.
Recall that on Saturday, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) also advised communities along the River Niger to evacuate immediately to safer ground.
The agency warned in a statement warned that flooding might occur at any moment following intense rainfall and rises in water level.
The Director-General of the agency, Malam Muhammad Sani-Sidi, who gave the advice in the statement, said the agency had received alerts of the imminent flooding.
